Exactly what I do. The brush in mine is starting to get a little frazzled though. I may have to buy a new bottle of TET soon just for the brush. Or I could just use a cheap fine paintbrush maybe?
Wow thats great! Thanks for sharing that info. I just picked up 2 bottles of Tamiya Airbrush cleaner this weekend. It's getting harder and harder to find down here.
Same thing just happened to me - wish i'd seen this first as a warning!Hahaha!! Great tip Bruce sounds like a no-brainer and surprised nobody has spotted this before.Well done and thanks for sharing
Thanks Mick. Sorry about your hearing. 😂 This wasn’t my discovery... a gent on the Scale Modeller’s Critique Group on Facebook is the first one I know of who first brought it to my attention.
Adam Mann I’ve avoided smelling them too much. 😂 they both smell similarly stinky I guess. You can apply it to each part first and then put them together, but you risk not getting as strong a bond. Butyl Acetate is an Ester... they are naturally-occurring aromatics that are found in some foods...
No, Bruce is correct. It's very dangerous for you. If your job requires you to use this, you have to be certified to handle it. It is extremely extremely toxic. They use it to clean fiberglass molds and other molds that use poly resins to harden. It will kill you, no questions asked. The fumes can and will cause permanent brain damage and absorption through the skin can and will shut down your liver. This isnt good stuff, so if you use it.....dont be a dumbass.
here is my recipe for thin cement, which works exactly like Tamiya.... 50% lacquer thinner + 50% Acetone this will have much less odor than cellulose thinner/ lacquer thinner on its own, and less odor than Tamiya thin cement... the acetone facilitates fast clean evaporation, with some solvent power, the lacquer thinner is the stronger solvent that melts the plastic. enjoy ;O)
Interesting. Not sure what the lacquer thinner does, other than dilute the acetone. I can’t recall lacquer thinner dissolving plastic. Does it speed drying time?
@@brucethemodelnoob the lacquer thinner I use which is from Mexico and dirt cheap does dissolve the plastic... the acetone slows the melting and speeds up drying since acetone evaporates at room temp fast.
Ironically I have both of these items sitting at home. Just checked on a new bottle of Tamiya airbrush cleaner on Amazon and its $24.99 in USA. Only one seller listed. Ebay had one bottle for $7.99
What a great tip Bruce! I had no idea... now, pure acetone is even cheaper, could that be used instead or what is Butylacetate critical to welding plastic?
Oki here we go Theyre both 3.7 cents per ml So that puts on 1.48 dollars for the extra thin But its 3+ dollars cuz it comes with a brush and plus one dollar cuz it has *EXTRA THIN* on its product title So in total it costs 5.48 dollars
Sooo Cooolll to Find This Out, just like Superglue Accelerator & STP GAS treatment are. Yup THAT'S RIGHT Folks. I'm NOW OFFICIALLY Subbed to Your Channel Noob 😆😆,, KUTAW n Have a Blessed Wknd.
If you need a paint brush holder, watch your wife when she unpacks some cosmetic or perfume bottles, which sometimes come with a sized foam insert that will perfectly fit 2 Tamiya glue bottles but also others of similar size...
First of all that is really cool! Now how you use extra thin it is suspect! If you do the wicking method and paint you get glue spots under the paint! So the smart way to do it is exactly what you said not to do! Put the glue on the piece to be glued and set it in place! Holding parts together and then hopping the glue won't show under the paint is a risk most won't take! The airbrush cleaner is a crazy find! Good job NOOB!! LOL
B.A.S. Drydock if you’re painting prior to assembly then absolutely - yes... the method you describe is better. I rarely paint before assembly though, and if I do I often use CA glue to stick the painted pieces together. 😀
Hey everyone... Windows Movie Maker freaked out while rendering the video. There’s a loud squelch at 3:43. Watch your eardrums!
Indeed LOL 😂 I was worried if my CP was suddenly broke but it was nothing 🙃
That is cool to know!
Hamilkar Barkas I know you like your Revell Contacta 😀
3:42 DAMN ALMOST GOT A HERAT ATTACK THERE
Movie Maker freaked out during rendering. I pinned a warning message... sorry. 🤷♂️
LoL!
it actually works...and i kicked it up a bit with mixing plastruct- thank you for the GOOD tip
That is a really good money saver in the long run thanks for the heads up on that 👍👏
I'll need more TET soon enough and I reckon I know what I'll be looking for, cheers Bruce 👍
That’s not tet
Also good glue for PS is MEK (Metylo-etylo-keton) and is most chipper than TET and Tamiya Airbrush Clener
+1 for MEK
And MORE TOXIC & VOLATILE !!!!
@@garyparker2969 like we have a healthy hobby 😅
I suggest to not throw out empty glue bottles and simply refill with the cleaner; I like the size as well as integrated brush applicator.
Exactly what I do. The brush in mine is starting to get a little frazzled though. I may have to buy a new bottle of TET soon just for the brush. Or I could just use a cheap fine paintbrush maybe?
Good video - and a money saver. Fantastic.
Great vid thanks for sharing.

shut the front door! This is amazing man. Came over via The Fallout Shelter but got you sub'd now!
Mad Genius Productions welcome!
So what your saying is I can clean my airbrush with Tamiya Extra Thin- learn something new everyday
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot you sure could... but that would be a waste of money 😀

wow! Very cool bro, thanks for the money saving tip! 🏁🏁👍
Great idea!. Thanks for sharing
Very good to know.
great tip, will follow up 👍
Picked up a bottle at Hobbyco, Sydney, today. $15. I'll try it out tonight.
So ? What did you get ?
Wow thanks for sharing my friend 👍👍
Very useful mate. Thanks
Ooooo thanks
You’re the MAN
Now that i did not know, nice one my friend.👍👍
Got this tip as well recently and I will refill my bottle of TET with airbrush cleaner from now on, hehe.
Incredible, thanks for this.
Very interesting.................👍
Great !!
パンツァーマイスター / panzer-meister thanks!
Superb!
3:43 scared the shit out of me
Lol. Sorry about that... some weird thing Windows Movie Maker did while rendering. 😂
@@brucethemodelnoob i was wearing head phones thats why🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Price has Skyrocketed on the cleaner. Its almost $20 a bottle on most online places now.
Wow! I wonder how sales of TET have been going?
Inevitibly that's what's going to happen with so many of these vids suddenly popping up.
very cool sir
I put it on both parts and push together. Also does it smell the same? And if not why does TET smell that way?

Butyl Acetate is an Ester... they are naturally-occurring aromatics that are found in some foods...
I use both MEK and Airbrush cleaner depending on what I am doing. MEK is so much cheaper yet way more dangerous. It's a double edge sword.
Dan Timmerman I haven’t tried MEK, but I’ve heard it’s really bad for you if don’t take precautions.
@@brucethemodelnoob no, it's not

Not my idea... just passing it on. Acetone by itself might work... I haven’t tried it. You could give it a try and let me know how it goes! 😀
Just acetone kinda works but not very well, neat butyl acetate is much better at bonding styrene than acetone (I use it for indy link tracks)
