@Jesse Grant 2:30 diversity and "reflecting the world we live in" is not inherently a good thing. It's not when it's for it's own sake, and not when it's inappropriate.
They always have to add some caveat or some extra thing to agree with them and give them an out or give them some grace… It’s not a good thing. It’s the least important thing that anyone should care about is what race your actor is or your video game.
The original Expanded Universe had tons of great female characters in it. Mara Jade, Bastila Shan, Nomi Sunrider, Jaina Solo. Even obscure ones that only appeared once or twice like Clat'Ha, Elan Tallah, Sadiki Blirr, or Darsha Assant are better than anything Disney's come up with in the past few years.
I just watched Wednesday (2022) in preparation for season 2, and I'm happy to report that Jenna Ortega gave a commanding performance as Wednesday Addams.
the problem has little to nothing to do with genetic lottery results or diversity. it has everything to do with people who have more confidence than skill. Ill go ahead and guess the men did 40% more "regular" work and 90% more of the "dirty jobs" for that 20% "premium"
Disney leaders fail to see that what actually increases market cap and profit in the long run is quality over quantity. They fail to see what fans of VERY popular franchises really want and just make out of touch decisions based on outdated trends rather than listening to feedback from the fans. Someone needs to make a documentary about Kathleen Kennedy. It's just mind boggling. Seeing her interviews and learning about her opinions makes you just wonder "WTF?". If a man were to take the same actions she has been doing in her position, he'd be the most hated person on the planet...
seems little kath thinks every man is toxic except for homosexuals, some of us will wear that toxic badge with honor. Of cert there has been no Star Wars character more toxic than Han, who did indeed fire first. I know I was there in the theater, it was at that point I thought the movie had something going.
the 20% less pay for women is across the entire cast... Now I know among cast members, extras are paid about the lowest paid actors, and I was unfortunate enough to watch this so I know there were a lot of extras on the witches planet (all presumably women). so if there are more Women extras, then it stands to reason the AVG pay would be lower for the gender with the most extras. Im so tired of this Wage Gape narrative.
It’s incredibly simple, and no one mentions it. What is in the scrawl of Star Wars movies? A long, long time ago in a galaxy far far away. How does a show displaying ancient history reflect modern values? It doesn’t, nor should it. It conflicts with the premise and ruins suspension of disbelief
It's a statistical impossibility for all or even any impactful amount of "hate" the show got to be out of bigotry and to be a root cause for it's poor success. If anything, that sort of stuff would INCREASE the viewership of the show. Look at that Velma cartoon, for example.
I never actually watched any of The Acolyte, but in that clip shown of S1, E1 (I believe) where "bad twin" enters the bar to kill Carrie Ann Moss's character, does she (C.A.M.) really just stand there watching and not make a single move as bad twin kills pretty much all the other patrons in the bar, and only finally begins fighting her herself after being personally confronted??? WTH is that all about???
If you watch 95% of Disneys Star Wars output and can't see just how shite it is then you really are the problem. There will always be 'Consumers' the brain-dead fans who will watch any old tosh if its got their favourite brand attached to it but everyone else can see the sheer and utter lack of quality in all aspects of their output. Terrible scripts withe terrible directors and z grade acting is the norm and the fact that Kennedy cannot see this is grounds for immediate sacking. Until Disney flush away the activists and start hiring proper script-writers with competent script editors backed up with talented directors and actors with above room temperature IQs (Hello Amandla) then nothing will change.
You ever notice when the companies & actors complain about all the abuse they're (not really) getting, that it sounds exactly like what _they_ are doing to _us?_
Disney has told me that Star Wars is not for me and I agree. because what they are creating is not Star Wars. And I will take it a step further. Nothing Disney is creating is for me. So I am fine with joining the growing boycott and never giving Disney a dime, ever. R.I.P Disney.
No. They don't have to pay men and women the same for the same job. It is up to the employer. They could pay the woman more or the man more, it is up to employer, not the employee.
They define anyone who doesn't like what they put out as an "istaphobe". If there were any legitimate threats against the actors, then show the receipts!
I'm glad I'm a normal person working a normal job in the normal world where there's a standard starting wage and more than half of my bosses in almost 30 years of being employed have been women and how when I hear people talk about inequality in the work force it just makes me ask wtf these people are talking about because it just affirms to me that the world I live in isn't full of bigots and racists
Covering up their poor stories with fan discrimination. They are not being boycotted by a toxic demographic. Its just customers recognizing bad product.
They did this to themselves. By CONSTANTLY calling us "toxic/bigot/racist/sexist fans", OVER AND OVER. . . We should just stick to the OG trilogy, and the LEGENDS material that's NOT INFECTED BY DISNEY.
And another thing, who is attacking them? I never saw any actual comments against Kelly, Marie Tran. I’ve never actually seen any of these comments from people attacking these actresses based on their gender or race. Critical Drinker, Star Wars Theory, Nerdrotic, and these other channels that get angry about Disney Star Wars, have never once attacked anyone for something as stupid as gender or race. It’s all about quality, story, writing, leadership. So where are the actual toxic racist misogynistic comments?
I have to say, I disagree with Jesse, and the idea.Star wars ( Which takes place in a galaxy far, far away) needs to "reflect the world we live in today"! THAT is EXACTLY the thought process which is RUINING all the classic franchises we've loved for decades. Franchises that were made famous and became beloved long BEFORE thos "modern audience" falacy became mainstream!!
I never meant Star Wars. I meant everything to do with media. And by reflect the world I meant opinions too, which is why Gina Carano shouldn’t have been let go, and the fans should not have been attacked for having opinions
They're trying to put women in male roles rather than play to women's strengths like in Terminator or Alien where the protagonists succeed by being smart, brave, and tough. Strikes me they're the ones being misogynistic. Also, stop taking existing lore then recasting the leads as female, just take a different era of the Star Wars Universe rather than make the established characters look bad.
Alien in 1979 and The Terminator in 1984 had female leads, and both films succeeded, because the storytelling was good! The kind of storytelling of female leads in the sequel trilogy, and this, are quite the opposite of good.
The average pay breakout is typical BS. If we're talking about unionized workers - the rates are based on seniority/skills, so if a guy is getting paid more it's because he's more experienced.
At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the higher ups at Disney were making sock accounts to send hateful messages to their own cast members to make the fanbase look bad.
You can't blame people for going to arms. When for years, they've been called bigots for just disliking bad writing and non-existent character development. They've increased the amount of hate in the world. They accomplished the exact opposite of their claims of equality. They've divided the country more than ever. All they're doing is radicalizing people.
It’s so surreal watching the first season knowing what we know now. That the main reason John trained the boys was for Sam’s protection and to keep him from falling down the wrong path. Yeah he could’ve found another way to make things easier on both his sons but it’s hard to say if telling them the whole truth would’ve been a good idea. If Sam knew he had such a dark destiny he might try to end his life, or worse go down that road in spite and an emotional teenage Dean might resent Sam and turn his back in his family. Anyway like I said watching the first season is so bizarre
Lucasfilm are flailing around, they know they have a turkey on their hands, and any backstep would be to much for their fragile egos' to take, so they are blaming everyone else except where the blane needs to lie. Serves them right, I hope this get worse, much much worse for all of them.
If the fanbase is so male dominated why don't you make something your actual fanbase wants /would like instead of pushing crap on us we don't care about at best or downright loath at it's worse?
i don't think it should be on disney to find the actors therapy, they are paid more then well enough to afford a therapist if the cyber bullying gets to bad plus in the words of tyler the creator "just walk away from the screen" that being said attacking the actors as if they're the ones who wrote this crap just makes you look like an idiot
I think we’re past “being kind” that’s the attitude that got us here. Rick Steves, the travel writer called it “Militantly Civil”. Which is a notch or so above “being kind” to people not “being kind” to my kind.
Funny how some people will claim certain franchises aren't made for 'toxic men', and yet these same franchises were made by such so-called 'toxic' men, and initially supported by so-called 'toxic' men. When, exactly, did 'toxic women' earn the right to be exempt from criticism? Oh, right, they didn't, they simply complained so much to people in charge until they got their way due to annoyance. How unimpressively unsurprising.
These people view every criticism as racist and sexist. Sorry if I don’t believe them when they say the majority of criticism fell into that category. The internet is an awful place and small handful of edgy trolls will say terrible things. I highly doubt it’s as prevalent as they say though. It’s just an excuse to play the victim card and run from taking accountability for being part of the worst Star Wars project ever created
The fact that they fired her for having an opposite opinion yet will yell and accuse the fans of misogyny whom have different opinions clearly shows that they are hypocrites
All who stand and support Krapleen Kennedy are complicit in her crimes and if any of her precious followers are my friends they can consider our friendship over.
I've been a Star Wars fan since I watched the original trilogy with my Grandma in the 90s. I haven't liked much since Disney took over, unfortunately. I wish they had better writers who didn't seem to dislike or are ashamed of the source material.
Not all opinions are equally valid and cultures are equally valid. e.g. Beliefs that it's okay to do horrible stuff to people are not as valid as other beliefs. That doesn't mean we should sensor people's speech, and we should always be aware that we could be the ones who have gotten it wrong. But that doesn't mean there is no right and wrong.
These shows are incompetent, DEI suffocated, badly acted, dreadful writing, truly abysmal! Take some accountability for your actions, rather than lashing out at people for having the, overwhelming, view that your product is terrible - which anyone with a functioning brain can see. I would suggest ditching the ludicrous ideology, an ideology which is taken up by a tiny minority of people - some 2%. It's the majority which must be catered for. That's life, we live in a democracy.
I haven't seen what the figures are in this case, but when you break up 'the wage gap' there are usually good reasons for the disparity in pay for similar positions. More experience, more duties or responsibilities, more hours of overtime put in, fewer requests for unpaid leave, and choosing to take fewer benefits (medical, maternity leave, etc) in exchange for a higher wage are frequently factors in why men overall get paid more than women. But again, I won't say that's necessarily the case here without doing a significant amount of research into this particular case... and I really don't want to, not least because the burden of proof should be to show that any wage disparity with the involved parties is unmerited.
I thought businesses had figured out long ago. Pander to the people that by your product, If you don't someone else will and you won't have any customers. They struggle because they're talentless activists who can't write quality stories or actual character development. They just default to "all women perfect, all men evil". 😂
People setting up fake accounts and harassing themselves online does NOT count as "harassment"!!Disney employees making fake accounts online to fake harass.actors involed in crappy things DON'T count either.
These people have received exactly ZERO "racist" or "misogynistic" comments from actual fans.
First, yes they have. Everyone has. I have and I am not famous. But that the thing. EVERYONE gets it.
Second, the progressives don’t care if the actors set up the bot accounts. All that matters to them is the initial story, because that’s all their base hears. They will just call the accusations of “they did it” as lies.
Lol Juicy Smollett light.
Nonsense.... there's plenty of racist and sexist men out there on the anonymity of the internet that would say that kind of crap, that being said, when she specifically states their movies and shows aren't made for men, what did she expect?
Funny. I slink around in comments sections all the time and have yet to see a racist or sexist comment regarding any Star Wars project. The content is overstuffed with bad, writing, wooden acting and terrible directing. There is no shortage of “real” stuff to criticize.
@@alexrompen805 Are you trying to tell me I have seen racist and sexist comments. I 💯 haven’t. I certainly haven’t seen any such comments directed at a specific actor or actress. I’ve seen lots of comments about bad writing, terrible story telling and awful acting, but nothing racist or sexist. If it’s nonsense point out where I might see it for myself because I haven’t seen it
The princess company doesn’t know what to do with a male franchise.
Disney crying about the fans hating on woman, whilst firing Gina Carano who is a fan favorite... gotta love this bs. Disney has become the boy who cried wolf... no one cares about their whining or blaming others anymore...
This non-argument is getting realy stale at this point. It really show how little these people can say back to the backlash.
"Men bad, men toxic, men sexist."
"No your show, storytelling, characters, settings, props etc. are sh*t."
"REEEEEEEEEEeee-"
Let us also not forget the creator and head writer of The Acolyte was Leslie Headland, Harvey Weinstein's former personal assistant. How many times did she see women running out of his office and hotel rooms in tears? If she wasn't outright helping to cover up his crimes, she was damn sure turning a blind eye to it.
Love how they assume apathy is backlash.
Funny how we grew up loving and respecting Leia yet when we do not love these woke female characters then someone how we are sexist?
Before the show was even announced ? I was hyped for it, seeing the PoV of sith apprentice and master manipulating the system in the shadows is what I had in mind. This whole DEI trash was never what I had in mind.
I’m just a blue collar worker casually watching Star Wars. Grew up with it and you can blindingly see politics everywhere in all their work recently.
I watch sci fi/fantasy to ESCAPE "the world we live in" (or rather the bubble the woke live in).
I ignore their shows, I have no reason to even look up the stars names let alone care enough to attack them
Always posting when I’m getting ready for work: you’re the man Jesse. Love your content!!
Ahahaha you’re the man for watching the videos! Thank you so much for the support it means the world!
I just watched Wednesday (2022) in preparation for season 2, and I'm happy to report that Jenna Ortega gave a commanding performance as Wednesday Addams.
That show was great!
the problem has little to nothing to do with genetic lottery results or diversity.
it has everything to do with people who have more confidence than skill.
Ill go ahead and guess the men did 40% more "regular" work and 90% more of the "dirty jobs" for that 20% "premium"
If people don't want it no one will buy it. Poor Gina Carano.
It’s not because men don’t like women in their movies, but if Disney’s toxicity against men continues… it will be.
Gina will get a huge paycheck simply because Disney doesn’t want their dirty laundry aired in public.
A fictional world we literally don't live in does NOT need to reflect ours.
Isn't ironic how they're ignoring women's opinions? You know, the women who are also saying they don't like the current state of SW.
What happened to customer is king? Why are they attacking their customers, are they dumb?
Disney has told me that Star Wars is not for me and I agree. because what they are creating is not Star Wars. And I will take it a step further. Nothing Disney is creating is for me. So I am fine with joining the growing boycott and never giving Disney a dime, ever. R.I.P Disney.
Kennedy fails to realize that critics can be useful. Stop making garbage.
Carao's case is interesting, but I don't know why fans would care if her character returns. Cara Dune was a very *meh* character.
Gina’s coming for you, KK. Hell, Elon, the truth, and all of us are coming with her.
No. They don't have to pay men and women the same for the same job. It is up to the employer. They could pay the woman more or the man more, it is up to employer, not the employee.
They define anyone who doesn't like what they put out as an "istaphobe". If there were any legitimate threats against the actors, then show the receipts!
Deflect deflect deflect they should get a job as an NHL goalie.
Didn't Disney get in legal trouble for issues regarding paying female employees?
Aha! So it was projection all along!
I say, not at all surprised by this turn of events.
But the same "Toxic" fans like female characters like Satele Shan, Darth Zannah, Mara Jane and others .
It's no longer a franchise for story. It's purely for spite.
I like how the new line is that calling out bad writing is a dog whistle
And another thing, who is attacking them? I never saw any actual comments against Kelly, Marie Tran. I’ve never actually seen any of these comments from people attacking these actresses based on their gender or race. Critical Drinker, Star Wars Theory, Nerdrotic, and these other channels that get angry about Disney Star Wars, have never once attacked anyone for something as stupid as gender or race. It’s all about quality, story, writing, leadership. So where are the actual toxic racist misogynistic comments?
All we want is good stories told well. Why is that so hard for Hollywood to understand?
@@thejessegrant Perhaps I misunderstood. I digress.
I accept everyone... As long as they don't write crappie scripts!
When will she, and them, learn?
Never
They're feminists, they're literally incapable of learning
Alien in 1979 and The Terminator in 1984 had female leads, and both films succeeded, because the storytelling was good! The kind of storytelling of female leads in the sequel trilogy, and this, are quite the opposite of good.
Everyone making Star Wars shows are getting paid. It’s the stock holders that are losing and most have no say as it’s their pension funds
As if they don’t know exactly what they’re doing
Star Wars isn't for two-faced harridans, either.
The whole Gina Carano issue is literally that she wrote beep bop boop for her pronouns. And they're STILL coming after her! How long ago was that? lol
Apparently it isn't for anyone at all.If Disney has so many consistent failures how do they have funding for this?
If the fanbase is so male dominated why don't you make something your actual fanbase wants /would like instead of pushing crap on us we don't care about at best or downright loath at it's worse?
There are so many examples of male fan bases loving IP with women main characters: aliens, Voyager, Tomb Raider, Stellar Blade, terminator, Arcane, …
i don't think it should be on disney to find the actors therapy, they are paid more then well enough to afford a therapist if the cyber bullying gets to bad plus in the words of tyler the creator "just walk away from the screen" that being said attacking the actors as if they're the ones who wrote this crap just makes you look like an idiot
They introduced problems into a franchise that didnt have them before they got there. Oh well RIP Star Wars.
The fact that they fired her for having an opposite opinion yet will yell and accuse the fans of misogyny whom have different opinions clearly shows that they are hypocrites
Judging by the box office performance and Disney + performance, SW isn’t for anyone anymore.
@Jesse Grant The problem is the actors, made personal attacks against star wars fans. They should accept personal attacks on them.
Paying men more than women is not bigotry or sexism but it does prove that Lucasfilm will not put their money where their mouth is
so if fandom is so "male dominated" disney should cater to them?
pure logic...
Æ
The truth is that some opinions ARE better than others.
I thought businesses had figured out long ago. Pander to the people that by your product, If you don't someone else will and you won't have any customers. Pandering to people that have never purchased your product to the point you alienate your core customer base is not the way to grow a business. Am I missing something?
Love these breakdowns, keep em coming!
Thank you!
