- Extremely clean and just as mean, this 1956 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop might be the crown jewel of our entire East Coast collection buy, a massive haul from a noted New York collector and friend of the shop. We’ve covered a few Goldtops before, like when we profiled five consecutive production years in “The Evolution of the Gibson Les Paul,” but we’ve never had one that looks-and sounds-quite like this. Enjoy. Nathaniel did.
The Gibson Les Paul is a solid body electric guitar that was first sold by the Gibson Guitar Corporation in 1952. The Les Paul was designed by Gibson president Ted McCarty, factory manager John Huis and their team with input from and endorsement by guitarist Les Paul. Its typical design features a solid mahogany body with a carved maple top and a single cutaway, a mahogany set-in neck with a rosewood fretboard, two pickups with independent volume and tone controls, and a stoptail bridge, although variants exist.
The Les Paul was originally offered with a gold finish and two P-90 pickups. In 1957, humbucking pickups were added, along with sunburst finishes in 1958. The 1958-1960 sunburst Les Paul, today one of the best-known electric guitar types in the world, was considered a commercial failure,[citation needed] with low production and sales. For 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned into what is now known as the Gibson SG. The original single-cutaway, carved top bodystyle was re-introduced in 1968.

Auto respect for the Giant Steps jam. Good stuff Chicago. Even if you have to bring in a brit to do it. :)
@5:48 clever editing with that punch line lol
Tone heaven
Just listen to that sustain!!!
Yeah it can do jazz too *starts playing Giant Steps*
👍🔥🎸🦅 Again Awesome 👏
Nice classic song
In 2005 I bought the Epiphone 56 reissue Gold Top with the P90s. But the original Gibson? Geez-Louise 👍🏻
Killer player
Nathaniel was the Stig all this time
I'm almost afraid to ask the asking price.
If you have to ask, you can't afford it 😂
Wow
Playing through a '66 Super Reverb definitely had nothing to do with how good it sounded ;)

Well, now I want to watch Top Gear
I really don’t think it is fair that you can play guitar like you do. You shouldn’t be able to nail giant steps and do those crazy arrangements like Sir Duke!
Man - you are an amazing jazz guitarist too! Do you have a band, play around town etc (virus permitting)? And although English can’t work out if you’re from Liverpool or Newcastle - maybe somewhere in between?
Hah...well done!
Thanks! Subscribe for more!
Got confused? Adidas advert or music ad😁😆
Was so relieved to see everyone wearing their masks.
honestly, i bet half of them hangout and jam together out of work without masks
Spinal Tap sustain ....
Nailing the woman tone... damn
How is a guitar which has been in continual production since 1957, worth any more than a the same model made today.
Scarcity.
First, your comment needs a couple of corrections. The Gibson Les Paul was introduced in 1952 (not 1957) and it was discontinued in 1961 then reintroduced in 1968. It has only been in production continuously since 1968, but there have been many changes over the years both in the 1968-present day models and during the original 1952-1961 era.
The other commenter is correct that the scarcity makes them desirable. However, it is the collector market that has driven the prices to the current levels. For what it’s worth, the Custom Shop reissues are absurdly priced because people see them as being as close to the originals as possible for a fraction of the price.
A dislike because they are using vertex garbage to play that beautiful guitar.
Why why are you demoing vintage guitars with effects pedals? How can buyer hear the True Tone of the guitar, which is better than any effects tone
Also wishing you didn't hook up those pedals.
You can hear the True clean Tone in this video during “Giant Steps” and also the pickup demo.
Also some people want to hear it in conjunction with a pedal. So we do both
@@Zeppelinbarnatra ok, TY. Although what I prefer is dirty without pedals, especially with P90s. Nice tease of a demo; wish I could walk in the store and play it.
Nice masks....🤔
