    What I liked about Vanilla leveling zones it that each zone had a different problem, everything was not about that one dude at the end of the expansion. And it made you feel like an adventurer, not a 'hero' that you're considered to be now.

    Man, thinking back.. Am I crazy for thinking that 1-60 was just more fun back then?
    Maybe fun isn't the right word to use.. interesting? exciting? I'm not really sure what it was that made the old world what it was. But I do miss it.
    Anyway, I'm not going to go too far down that road. My favorite vanilla zone has to be Westfall. Can't really explain why, but that's one zone I never skipped when leveling.

    I honestly always loved the barrens since I started playing wow. I remember playing with some friends there and also the Ratchet part and the ship, was just the most amazing first experience for me. After that it got kind of boring, since I did it a million times. :D

    • @NixxiomOnYouTube
      @NixxiomOnYouTube  9 лет назад +1

      Doronsmovies I always tended to trade between the Barrens and Silverpine Forest after doing the Barrens a couple of times on different alts. Despite its reputation, Silverpine had a lot of cool quests in it, but you just needed to do them in a proper order, otherwise you end up under-leveling within the zone and end up with nothing but silver exclamation marks.

    • @TodorTreyKoev
      @TodorTreyKoev 9 лет назад

      Doronsmovies I am with you on almost all accounts (especially Ashenvale, Eastern Plaguelands & Duskwood - most interesting quest chains, IMO). Sadly, I never got too experienced with regards to the Horde side of things, but Tirisfal Glades & The Barrens are pretty famous as favourite zones to other players, based on what I've heard.
      I haven't played for 5+ years (left right before Cataclysm), so this was a very nice & "comforting" video to watch, lol. I have so many memories of happily leveling in Ashenvale, when a massive Horde cavalry rushes through on their way to Darnassus & slaughter everything in their way (myself included, obviously).

    • @tangofett4065

      One of my favorites was the “Wetlands”! It had Menethil harbor, Orcs, Undead Pirates off the coast, Murlocs, Dragons, and tons of other cool stuff. As a Dwarf, I felt a sense of pride riding my ram through the long underground tunnels to reach the Wetlands. It and Arathi Highlands

  • @wyatttilley7849
    @wyatttilley7849 8 лет назад +6

    Leveling 1-60 back in Vanilla was so much more fun. Know why? Because you spent hours upon hours leveling your character. Building professions, making friends, giving your character a place on the server, joining a guild, watching that guild set up ventrilo with 40 other people on a Friday night owning RAGNAROS in MC

    I agree with tirisfal glades, when i started a Horde character the first time, it defiantly had that atmosphere feel for me.
    another zone i liked was western plaguelands; i personally didnt get to lvl in it before cata, but when i explored it the first time all i could hear was...nothing. The land itself was full of death and Scourge and no music or sounds, just...dreadful silence. The NPCs and quests were awesome as well.

    Late addition to all of this nostalgia - I really liked Winterspring. I've always been a fan of snowy areas - and being a dwarf, it felt like I was in my right element - untamed wildlands of giants, yetis, beasts and furbolgs. Oh yeah, the firewater. Need I say more?

    My nr. 1 was always the Westfall, Duskwood just behind. I loved the warm farm-feel of a struggling nation, the Defias rebellion, the sea-shanty themes on the coast, helping recover pirate treasure... You had your first paladin class quest there, and of course, the descend to the Deadmines! My god, what a treat.

    Duskwood... The memories are so overwhelming. I remember first swimming across the lake to reach it, getting mauled by angry wolves five levels above me as soon as I set food onto the uncharted land. Reaching that town, beautiful safety, felt mysterious and kind of ominous. Like the supposed safety is just a facade. And then you begin to explore the dark forest, encountering so many grim monstrosities along the way. The further and deeper you dare to go, the more sinister and deadly everything got. I spent so much time in Duskwood, it will forever be etched into my memory.

  • @XxWoWglitchesxX
    @XxWoWglitchesxX 7 лет назад +6

    I think the nostalgia is great but I also think our feelings toward the game back then was because the mystery behind everything... I remember going to plague lands seeing people on horses.. "Can I go with you?" No you can't because you'll get one shouted by the bears 😂😂 the travel from Darnaussus to Stormwind, walking through Wetlands to IF for deeprun tram. Like what are these ?? And skulls for why is this zone so important? You know? Good times man... definitely do miss it

  • @justine8398
    @justine8398 8 лет назад +18

    My problem is that the game has gone so far off the path that nobody quest anymore, nobody explores much anymore like the game was intended. Go to a questing hub it's a ghost town maybe 1-2 players there at best, that is the aspect of the game that Blizzard has moved away from and needs to go back to otherwise whats the point of having these questing hubs for only a handful of people on a server of thousands. If you go to any capitol city there is where you'll find all the people using LFG, LFR or just queueing for bg's not ever having to leave the sanctuary of the mighty cities. I mean world pvp is at is all time low because of the fact that nobody quest anymore factions running into one and another that were on the same quest I guess you can sum up everything as nobody explores period unless their going for the achievement this could be me rambling but I just call it how I see it. Hopefully Blizzard will do something about this or does something with the dead areas to better utilized the content. I do like where Blizzard is going in Legion on the questing experience where is doesn't matter where you quest the area lvls with you. On another note you forgot to mention 1k needle which I always looked forward to after questing a long time in the barrens.

    I agree wholeheartedly with Loch Modan, 10 Day Trials were never enough for me. I only managed to experience very little of Loch Modan, but what I did get out of it; it was outright beautiful. Now whenever I arrive in Loch Modan, I always bring my character over to a rocky cliff overlooking where the Lochs' line used to be, a spot where a player could just look out at the Dam and feel empowered and joy at such a sight. Now whenever I go there, I just /cry and hope that there'd be an Instanced Event where the Dwarves and Gnomes start-up on rebuilding the Dam and most of the Loch is starting to fill back up again due to rainwater, where those little Murloc Villages we were tasked with dealing with are swept under-current and most of the Murlocs build their houses elsewhere, and down to the south, a group of Dwarves are setting up a bridge to cross that gap into the Badlands by using Dwarf Shamans to help out, and a Shaman Player character would contribute on a personal level with it through a certain quest made specifically for Shamans'.

    It's a hard choice between Duskwood and Tirisfal Glades, but I think I have to go with Duskwood. Awesome quests, spooky atmosphere and an incredible sense of exploration that is second to none. Duskwood is probably the only zone that I've NEVER skipped (both Vanilla and every expansion that came after it).

    Silithus is my favorite Vanilla WoW zone because I was 6 when I started playing WoW, and the first zone I ever saw was Silithus. I decided to see what my dad was so interested in the day he participated in the opening of the Gates of Ahn'Quiraj, and he happened to let me sit on his lap while he raided. It's what pulled me in to the game, and I still run Ahn'Quiraj every Tuesday. I don't know if it had any quests prior to Cata, but I still love it.

    I joined in Mists of Pandaria, so I never got to experience any of the original content, except for the few bits that remained, but I found this really interesting.
    The entire notion of making friends while questing seems baffling to me, yet really fun, and it makes me sad I never got to see things like Stonewrought Dam and other iconic locations.
    It seems several zones stood the test of time, since even now I know lots of the zones mentioned are favourites among me and my friends.

    Duskwood, omg. I can still remember the quest you get in Redridge Mountains, to go to Darkshire in Duskwood. The text in the quest really builds up an eerie atmosphere, ending with:
    "You must exercise extreme caution. Ebonlocke is the mayor of Darkshire, in the heart of Duskwood. _Do not stray from the roads._" ahhh..... :)
    I remember being actually a little frightened while walking on the road, looking left and right into the dark woods, thinking, why did he say that, what's out there!?

I remember spending the most time there when I was a low level player because I made a Hunter to level 20, then rerolled to a warrior and stuck with that until now. I joined early Wrath and remember Blood Elf Deathknights coming in and randomly killing NPCs and players.

    I know this is only vanilla. But hoyl shit the BC starting zones for BEs was my ultimate favorite back when i was new. Mainly because it gave that transition from Eversong Woods to Ghostlands and it was like "Oh damn. Shit's getting real! and this undead shit is getting more interesting." And gathering people to kill those two massive abominations was such a feat for a nub back then. And it left me craving more. Which there was still a lot left of in the zone. ANd then when you finally finish the story of the Blood Elves starting zones, you're rewarded with a blue weapon that had an awesome and prestigious design compared to other blues in other zones of the same level range. And the best part of it all. It was only the beginning. You arrive in org and talk to thrall. And he hears your people's story and finishes his response with "Welcome to the Horde, Elf." Ouch. But it made you want to aspire to greater things reachable through the horde. It correctly introduced the game. And i loved every moment. Even dying a ton from the murlocs on that long shore in ghostlands

    You can actually still do the Pamela's Doll Quest/Darrowshire quest chain, though it is no longer a raid group quest. It is pretty much the same, though some of the NPC's you talk to are different and there are a few more quests in the chain.

    This was really fun to listen to! As a 7th grade girl entering the World of Warcraft for my first time back in Vanilla WoW, my fondest memories come from Teldrassil. As a nature lover, I was in awe of the lush and magical aura of the Night Elves' home. One thing about Blizzard is that they can create beautiful digital places that people feel real nostalgia for, even though it's not real. Pretty cool.

    Ashenvale was awesome! not only by the quests, the fucking pvp skirmishes were awesome.
    Questing back then was perfect, exploration, random things and more difficulty (with means co-op necessity).
    The starting zones of vanilla have evil places of certain death, like the furblogs on the barrows (Teldrassil)

  • @HellfireLynx22
    @HellfireLynx22 9 лет назад +1

    Honestly, my favourite Vanilla zone was Elwynn Forest.
    It was just... so well designed it hurt. You had the very beginning, helping out Northshire with the Kobold problem in the mines, then you learned of the vineyards and how they were taken over by the Defias. (Which were just plain amazing)
    Then after that you headed to Goldshire, which while consisting of only three buildings just blew your mind of how much there was to do there. You picked up like, three quests to head to the Fargodeep mine and scout it out while picking up Gold Dust and Candles, the Jangolode mine and the introduction of those god forsaken giant spiders, the Eastvale Logging area, the Garrison next to Westfall where you fought against the ultimate god of destruction Hogger. (At least befoire he was turned into a joke in the Stockades...)
    Hell, do you remember your first time to Stormwind in vanilla? You didn't get a free ride, you had to walk up the hill, fighting against whatever decided to cross the road (Fucking Defias Cutpurses...) and eventually reaching the massive white bridge with massive statues of heroes from the first and second wars, not to mention just the pure size of the place. Finding your way around Stormwind without a map on your first time there was just not possible. Plus you even had a chance to walk into the main room where Anduin was just plain awesome.

    Thanks again Nix!
    I'm so glad you also acknowledged, the incredible background theme music attached to each of our fave and beloved zones. Blizzard provided gorgeous music for each (i.e. the spooky, forlorn wailing of seemingly desolate Tanaris, just as one example). Setting the mood for a place you expect to spend significant time in, can do a LOT to provide the right frame of mind for questing, grinding or even nervously dashing through, on the way to a more 'comfortable' or 'safe' locale. So happy they kept it for "Classic" as I Love it! :)
    As for my own fave leveling zones, it's a toss up between Tirisfal Glades and Silver Pine (obviously, I'm Horde for Life). Three reasons, similar to your own. As a huge fan of Warcraft 3 it immediately set the stage for my entry into this wonderful world. It's also where I managed to make my first incredible friends to assist in the multiple quests but also, they were the zones where I actually managed to obtain the skills I needed to become actually good in my class(es). No longer a bungling newb spamming one or two abilities, it's where I learned rotation, kiting, managing cool downs and assisting (and being assisted) others during the daunting tasks of Dungeon crawls, such as SFK and Fenris Isle. As the game progressed, I managed to get quite better but it was the learning phases that I find most memorable.
    As for the Barrens, like most I have a kinda love/hate relationship with that giganormous zone. When Classic launched, I was tickled pink to discover that all the wonderful players that joined in brought the silly (but nostalgically fun) "Chuck Norris" and "Your Mom" jokes back. Nostalgia is a very heady drug and though preferred in small doses, still great giggles !

    WoW, so much nostalgia... I am happy that I stopped playing after BC, WoTLK was pretty good too, but TBH, Classic Vanilla WoW was the best game ever, it was so mysterious and... I don't know I just don't like what WoW evolved to..
    As for my top 3 favourite zones (EK/Kalimdor):
    EK:
    -Westfall (Alliance)/Silverpine Forest (Horde)
    -The Hinterlands
    -STV
    Kalimdor:
    -Barrens
    -Tanaris
    -Winterspring
    Of course I agree about the epicness of Tirisfal Glades and The Undercity, where you can see the tomb of Arthas father + the entrance where you can hear the bells which remind you of the return of Arthas in W3, when he killed his father. The instances and raid were epic aswell, I still like WoW, because it's perfect MMO with rich history aaaand yeah I will probably return one day :D

      LastWonderland Why does "I am so happy I stopped playing after BC" and "TBH, Classic Vanilla WoW was the best game ever", sound so much like "I am sure glad I stopped driving cars after the invention of the Model-T Ford... no other car could possibly be as good a Model-T". Just seems odd to discount later expansions when by one's own admittance, they haven't even played them.

    • @PeterDB90
      @PeterDB90 9 лет назад +3

      TheSilentStorm Westfall was my favorite too. If you rolled a night elf, once you were done questing at Teldrassil and hit about level 10, you took that boat out of Ashenvale to Menethil Harbor, walk through Wetlands, avoiding mobs best you could (which was impossible in Wetlands, since the road went through the swamp and had mobs literally ON it rather than away from it like in other areas), go through Loch Modan, Dun Morough, get to Ironforge, take the tram to Stormwind, go through Elwyn Forest ALL TO GET TO WESTFALL AND QUEST THERE AT 10! And you know why? Because of VC (Deadmines) - on the alliance side, that was the first instance you could get to.
      I also love how the music in Westfall has progressed in Cataclysm, it's similar, yet more dramatic, making it both - nostalgic and mature at the same time. Don't even know how to describe it, it's like hearing your favorite lullaby become an epic orchestra.

    My top Vanilla zones:
    10. Dun Morough (love snowy places)
    9. Elwynn Forest (I first started with a human to get a feel for the game so I'm nostalgic for this one)
    8. Desolace (the emptyness and wastelands made this zone mysterious)
    7. Silithus (the ingame zone itself kinda sucks in playing through it, but it's the lore of the Silithid/Qiraji that I love)
    6. Duskwood (2spooky)
    5. Tirisfal Glades (3spooky)
    4. Barrens (never forget Barrens Chat!)
    3. Thousand Needles (fuck you DW and Blizz, you ruined it completely)

    I really loved Wetlands, Loch Modan, Dun Morough, and all those cozy zones in that area. I remember back in late vanilla/early BC when I first started playing, me and my brother began our WoW adventures. I made a Night Elf Druid, and my brother made a Human Rogue. We didn't know how far away our starting zones were and how hard it'd be to play together, so my bro and I decided to simply walk, zone to zone, until one of us got to the other person's starting zone.
    We had no mounts, we reached around lvl 10 just from exploring exp, and it really felt like a long and arduous journey, trekking through the mountains between Loch Modan and Wetlands through the tunnel passes, avoiding level 20 murlocs, orc bandits, etc that appeared along the way, and travelling by many boats & trams just to reach our destination. When we wanted to go back to Stormwind or Teldrassil, we'd walk together after that day, and even avoided getting ganked a few times. When we first saw the huge statues in LM right at the gates to Searing Gorge (which we tried to enter, which also led us to badlands in search of other ways into that the Gorge) , it was an amazing feeling seeing all that cool stuff. I remember hearing how this journey was memorable for a lot of other players too, which makes it even more awesome. But now with flying mounts on Azeroth, the spirit of such a journey is gone because any destination can be reached in under 5-10 min flat. I mean, I sometimes walk there on that same druid who is now my level capped main, but the true magic of that zone-wide hike, with the sense of exploration, all to reach a destination that felt miles away was magic that will only continue to exist in pre-cata WoW, and in my fond memories of Vanilla.
    However, me and my bro did travel around all of Pandaria trying to get into the Vale once MoP launched, the magic of exploration came back for a time during those moments. But I digress, I also enjoyed Westfall for questing to level 20 with my brother, where I finally got my Cat form as a Druid, and we discovered those rogue-only Defias Masks that looked super cool to wear. I remember running Deadmines for the first time and actually feeling scared to death of the dungeon, I had never been in one before, and the environment/atmosphere of DM actually frightened me and had me shivering. I ended up hearthin back to Dolanaar before the last boss. Good times.

    A good ranking but not close to my personal favorites - 1) Ashenvale, 2) Winterspring & 3) Desolace.
    I really like the Night elf zones because of their beautiful looks and their tranquility - they have always attracted me.
    And Winterspring i like as a snowy place cut off from the rest of the world,reachable only through cave of the Timbermaws, or by flight master - however it was a place which had a town with goblin engineers and a bank, and ofc the nightsabers den to the north :).
    And Desolace was cool too - with the Centaur villages and the instance Maraudon, the horde village next to the ocean, the demon area "Mannoroc Coven" with portals next to the village, the Naga, the Twilight hammer settlements - the last two areas had quest which summoned 2 great demonlord which you had to kill - i think that was pretty cool, and you also had the Satyr settlement "Sargeron" - so, although Desolace sounds like an unpleasent place it was really a complexed area which made it look really cool to me.
    So maybe this is not what appeals to most but it's my personal opinion - i would be happy if some1 shared what he thinks about it :)

    Wow... I did not expect you to put Tirisfal Glades on top, because that´s exactly what I would do as well, and my taste tends to not be the norm.
    I miss WoW greatly as of late, and I find myself looking up old PvP videos and footage. I quit a couple of weeks after Cata released, and haven´t touched it since, but, man, I´d give almost anything to be able to go back and play WoW the way that it used to be.
    WoW was one of my favourite games, and I had almost 400 days of total playtime towards the end. I think the daily quests and the ever increasing streamlining process is what killed it for me.
    Old people may say: "Ah, to be young..." and so on. I´m more like "Ah, to be a noob in WoW..."
    Cause that was a truly special experience. WoW gave me some of the most memorable moments of my life.

    Westfall has to be one of the best zones.
    The zone has a genuinely unique atmosphere, with the dead grass, the abandoned houses and farms, and the ever-looming threat of the Defias. It's so interesting to see the calm, natural look of Elwynn, suddenly turn into this old farm zone that looks boring at first glance, but was really fun. The color pallet was very different.
    Questing in Sentinel Hill and Moonbrook has always got me nostalgic. Some of the best moments were seeing the broken cart, getting killed by swarms of murlocs, getting the first Defias Bandana (rogue only :c), doing the captain sanders quest line, meeting that one lighthouse ghost, invading gnoll camps for the chests, and entering Deadmines for the first time. I remember killing Vancleef and Mr. Smite like it was yesterday, and seeing the sunset while grinding late at night, and admiring it's beauty.
    When you see them running amok in Elwynn, you get an idea of their power, but when you enter Westfall, you see the real demonstration. The real control they have over it, and the events they have done to cause this zone to become such a wasteland. At that time, when you started your character (human) in Northshire Valley you saw the acts that the Defias were capable of- and from then on sort of saw them as the "bad guys", instead of a "good guy" rebellion, fighting for the good of the populace. The criminals in the forest were Defias. They were terrorists, not revolutionaries. And you set forth on the path to Westbrook Garrison, and Hogger, to end this threat over the nation you pledged your loyalty to.
    You also get to see into some of the lives of residents, and how they have changed and how the Defias, Gnolls, Murlocs, and other threats have impacted their history.
    I'm a teen and grew up with world of warcraft. I have aged from when I was a clueless noob, taking everything for granted, to now tanking WoD raids. Even though I was really young, I still read almost every quest I got. I like to see myself as an expert on lore. I know a lot about events leading up to cataclysm, where I only played off-and-on.
    MoP is trash btw
    tl;dr- westfall was good

    I like all of the forest zones in general, Elwynn Forest, Duskwood, Teldrassil, Silverpine Forest and Hinterlands and Winterspring are the best! I love Hillsbrad Foothills because of the cozy forest music, the snowy atmosphere, and the overall sad feeling it gives me. I always have to go visit the memorial of Anthony Ray Stark when I go there.

    I can agree that my favorite leveling zones mentioned in this video are the Barrens, Tanaris, Dustwallow Marsh and Loch Modan. There's the vast African landscape of the Barrens, the vast desert of Tanaris where life exists all around regardless of the harsh environment, multiple quests that were easy to finish all at once in Dustwallow, and the fact Loch Modan was just a peaceful place with pleasant music to listen to while doing homework.

    The thing I always remember about Darkshire (aside from Stitches) is that a quest reward back then was one of the the first full-length cloaks you could get. Made you feel like your just graduated to awesome.

    you LIKE beinng killed by raid groups of high level players? seriously? you find it fun and exciting? if there was a raid group of 60's hitting my questhub and killing me, that would absolutely be cue for me to log off for the day, or at least switch to an alt. it's one thing to be max level and have that happen, then rally some ally guild in defense, but during leveling, fuck that.

      saphironkindris Hell yeah! Go check out Lazypeon's video "The Battle for Ironforge." All those battles were a hell of a ton of fun to be apart of, even if we lost three of them. Excellent PvP! :Druclips.net/video/FoAsyv6QpSs/видео.html

      oh, don't get me wrong, i'm a fan of world pvp as much as the next guy, i just find it odd that you like it even when you're trying to level and quest. You're just helplessly dying over and over while trying to hand in your quests. Completely different from being max level and going to attack/defend ironforge, when everyone knows what they're getting into.

    • @etaxalo
      @etaxalo 9 лет назад

      Well this is not ganking because if you are in your capital city you go out off pvp thus no dying. Secondly i still like it because last time it turned in to a big picknick with the horde in the midle of IF (you should have seen the lowbies yelling at us why dont we kill them), and who knows next time maybe i can rip off someones face or make then eat a fireball.

    I think Blizzard should re-add the Vanilla zones, but with the updated texture that Cataclysm brought, so they look like they did back then, but is updated like they were in Cata and with the new quest updates and so on. And then make it phased so once you've done Northrend, you "enter" Cataclysm and the zones are changed.
    That wuld make it so much better.
    This only goes for the original races and Draenei/Blood elves ofc.

    I was honestly terrified the first time I arrived at Darkshore. I fell off the boat, didn't know where I was going, died several times to VERY angry bears, before finally finding Auberdine and the huge variety of quests in the area. I loved it, and Ashenvale after. I adore the atmosphere and music in the night elf areas, and really wish there were more of them. Hopefully in legion perhaps...

    I personally always loved the Eversong woods (starting location for belfs). I remember how amazed I was when I saw the Dead scar for the first time, this was so sad to see such a beautiful land torn apart by Arthas's army. Quests were also interesting.
    I also love Teldrassil but that is more because of nostalgia (my first char was nelf), was awesome to see giant Ancients like in WC3 :)
