  • Will I be able to take Trevor out for his first drive in his 72' Chevelle? The last time we were wrenching on this classic muscle car, we were able to get the engine to start and run after being left abandoned for 24 years. Living off that excitement of reviving his Chevelle and racing against dusk, we quickly jumped in and went for the first test drive, or so we thought!!!
We quickly found out that our Chevelle did not have any action out of the transmission. The old Turbo 350 wasn't having it. We ran out of daylight and called it off. What a buzz kill, to a few killer days of wrenching. Later that night, I reflected on our day and realized that I had overlooked something. My heart sank; I instantly knew that I had blown it. I forgot to do something that was the main contributor to us not driving the car. I had failed Trevor.
So today, Trevor and I are going to take a second attempt at our first test drive of his barn find Chevelle. A successful test drive will consider this classic revived and back on the road. I know that he is exceptionally excited to take his first ride in his 1st car!
Instead of jumping straight into the transmission problems, I give Trevor a quick lesson. Brakes 101. I give him a high-level overview of how the brakes work and why they are not functioning properly. I then teach him the process of how to bleed the air out of the brakes in preparation for our test drive.
As the day progressed, we ran low on daylight yet again, and we had to find a solution for lighting. Our Chevelle has suffered some serious corrosion and damage to the fuse box and wire harness, rendering nearly all of the electrical in the car inoperative. Therefore, I have the opportunity to teach Trevor the art of improvising and adapting a quick and creative solution for our headlights...
Follow us along as I teach Trevor the ins & outs not only of how his Chevelle works but how to work on it.

    About AutoTechNick:
Growing up in rural Oregon, I was always around Hot Rods & Race Cars. I imagine my early exposure to this culture ignited a spark of interest in cars, which remains my passion.
🎓 I am a proud Alumni of Wyoming Technical Institute @WyoTechAutoMechanicSchool where I studied Automotive Technology, Performance Engine Building & Street Rod Fabrication. In addition to "WyoTech," I graduated from the BMW Service Technician Education Program, more commonly known as BMW S.T.E.P.
🏎️ I spent nearly ten years working in various BMW dealerships as a Master Technician. After a move back home to the PNW, I found myself no longer servicing German-made machines but now working with Italians. I spent nearly another ten years as a Ferrari Master Technician & Shop Foreman at a local Ferrari dealership.
🏆 Ferrari selected me as one of 12 technicians worldwide to compete in the "Ferrari Testa Rossa Awards" for four years consecutively. Finishing in 3rd place in 2016, & in 2019 I was able to place in 1st, winning the competition & earning the title of the "Top Ferrari Technician in the World!"
🚀 As my time with Ferrari came to an end, a new career path awaited me…. Aerospace. I am currently working at Blue Origin, helping to build & develop the BE-3PM and BE-3U rocket engines.
With my new career path, I needed an outlet for my automotive passion, thus the reason for this channel…

I feel like we are just starting to get some momentum on this project! I am very excited to see where it will take us.
BUT, we want to hear from you. What do you guys want to see from this project? More technical info & how to? Or possibly more time of myself teaching Trevor the ins and outs of wrenching on his Chevelle?

Good stuff! I think you should spend as much time teaching Trevor how to work on his car as you can. Plus, it still teaches dummies like me the basics at the same time, so it’s a win-win 😄

He has a lot to learn! Most of our time is spent with me teaching him about the work, rather than us spending the time doing the work! Lets say that there is a lot of footage left on the cutting room floor!
