That Benton blade was a jaw dropper. Honestly, the glare on the water made it better because I was even more surprised when you pulled that thing. Was not expecting that. Love your videos, sir. Your knowledge base never ceases to impress me. Your ability to confidently type, date, and identify the lithic material on the spot is second to none. It's one of the very first things I ever noticed about your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Man I pride myself on having a good eye to find arrowheads on the river. But I cannot get my eyes adjusted enough to look in streams. We went looking today walked a good size branch right below a huge bluff overhang that has flint all in it and I found one piece of flint in the creek I’m sure I missed some points but I just don’t seem to have luck or the eye for walking a creek. I’m in northwest Alabama I’d love to have some pointers for creek walking!
Are you Eddie Templeton? Just read an article of an avid artifact collector Mississippi man finding a mammoth tusk...in what looked like one of your "ditches"
Dunno how or why your channel got rec'ed to me but it did. Now I'm sub'ed and watching all your new vids. Just amazing what antiquities you're finding.
Beautiful stuff man. The creek that leads up to the village site that I hunt turns into huge boulders up towards the top of the hill. I find huge chunks of pottery and other stuff amongst those huge rocks. You never know what you’ll come across in those creeks.
Just found your channel. Subbed! My daddy was a bigtime arrowhead hunter and bottle digger his whole life. He was also a very skilled knapper. He used to go to a big knap-in in Kansas City each year back in the 90s. He’s been gone for over 20 years now but this reminds me of him bigtime. Thanks for the videos. Metal detecting/relic hunting is more my thing. But this is killer.
Speechless when you pulled that blade. I love your enthusiasm and gratitude for each point and your tenacity. Always excited when i see your posts. Kind wishes 😊
Thank you very much Jennifer.....the kid never left me when it comes to the sheer fascination of finding these items that were made so long ago....thanks for commenting
Appreciate it.....I always tell people..we may not have the biggest early archaic points here in North Mississippi.,but certainly the best quality and color....thanks for commenting
Always excited when I see your videos! I know we are going to get to see some good rocks. I always say that you never know what the next step is going to produce!
I appreciate it Don....if you don't go.,you'll never know.! These sandy creeks will expose one and cover it back up on the next rain.....that's why persistence is key.....you have to be there when it exposes....thanks for commenting sir
So cool 😎 I walk my WI trout streams with an awareness and interest that you’ve brought to me in your walking your ditches down south...makes my world more alive to possibility! Thanks for sharing, man.
Great. I wonder if they had a feeling about the colours of the rock, did they have an esthetic appreciation of nice colours and unusual coloured stone for their artifacts??.
Hello. Hey man, I hear the storm gathering up in the coast. I hope you don’t get too much rain. I’ll keep an eye on the weather. Take care. Stay safe.👍🙏
Man the excitement I’d have finding a blade like that, awesome find man. Need to get into more creeks, I’m usually just walkin fields and finding stuff and then creeks every so often
@@Theditchwalker Must be a fantastic thrill to find something like that. To hold something in your hand that was last held/made 5k yrs ago must feel really awesome. Thanks again, & best wishes towards future finds.
Man that’s so cool, really enjoy your channel. Would love to do this one day as it’s a different beast out here in Southern California, we do pan for gold and rock hound but its nothing like what your doing. Keep it up.
I've always found in the sun is always better if the camera is working right... Basically, the more photons the better for photographing points outdoors( my best photographer friend told me that). Note how much better color shows up in the direct light as you move the pieces in and out of the shade... Dude, you got me watching archaeinet point-hunting again. But to be fair, your videos were always killer, but you're expressing your deep knowledge more and your calm, but confident personality is so refreshing in our current wold of constant strife...
Wow.,I haven't seen you on here in some years...good to hear from ya.....I remember all your comments when I first started youtube. You are exactly rite on the photos....the glare on my phone screen is what was throwing me off...I couldn't see what was going on very well lol...
Cuz ! You liked that picture of my blade I sent you for an opinion and you said ( I’m gonna find me one ) just messin with you Buddy. I like it and that toothy early archaic point would have been AMAZING ! Thanks for the video
Yep...been doing it a long time.....yeah Columbus is low lying....may have to get off to the east or west into some hilly ground....I'm sure there are some around there though....just have to find them
The benton people made these blades in numbers and stored them away in a cache....when they needed them they would bring them out and notch them for hafting....there are more either in the creek or still in the bank
That's not good.....pretty much all creeks have artifacts in them.,but some are way better than others. The question is., can the artifacts be found ....not likely if they are buried under feet of sand. .... You need a creek that exposes the hardpan or clay bottom....that's where the heavier creek deposits (arrowheads) rest
The pinetree point is a type of early archaic point named by James Cambron on a type site in Alabama.....I suspect it was named because the point resembles spruce or pinetrees in the area....they are almost always heavily serrated
My area is mostly owned by a handful of farmers and if I don't know them.,I know someone that does. With that said.,there are also creeks in my area that people have been hunting for years and are basically considered public because the landowners see no harm in people getting in their creeks.
@ radiocarbon dating has been proved to be inaccurate. You could take one of those arrowheads and break it into chunks and send it off to 10 different labs and so long as you don’t tell them where you found it and what it was they ALL would come back with all kinds of crazy dates. Listen I don’t want to argue back-and-forth with you on this. I’ve seen enough evidence to where I don’t believe dating methods on anything except for known objects from a known time. I.e. Julius Caesar’s dresser drawer as an example. Or George Washington’s leather belt. Things like that we know exactly where they came from. The rest is all nonsense. Either way it doesn’t take away from your cool find and what you are doing which I find fascinating and very cool.
I'm just relaying information from scientific and archeological evidence that suggests this type was manufactured and used 4 to 6,000 years ago in the middle archaic period....thanks for commenting

OOOWHEEE! That's a beast.
It's a handful.....thanks for commenting
Beautiful red point, shame it was broken. Ok are you going to make me look up FT Benton Chert. Not my neighborhood. I see the age. Good finds.
Nice find. I think you are on to something with the elevation, I live in Columbus Ms. the creeks are full of sand.
Yep...been doing it a long time.....yeah Columbus is low lying....may have to get off to the east or west into some hilly ground....I'm sure there are some around there though....just have to find them
Bad to the bone we been getting hammered with the thunderstorms here too been good so far
Nice blade!
I appreciate it...it's a beauty!
what a beautiful blade that pine tree is a shame but overall a great walk
Appreciate it Ben...as always.,thanks for commenting
What would the handle have been made from, wood or antler or bone?
Yes...this was actually a blade that was made in numbers and stored away...they returned when they needed them and notched them...
Nice !
I clicked so fast that I split my fingernail 😂
Great vid. What State is this from ?
Northeastern Mississippi...thanks for commenting
Makes you wonder how many generations it took to find that beveled and serrated worked best?
Like to see a video of your collection
What did mean by a cache blade? I've heard the term used before but always wondered what it meant.
The benton people made these blades in numbers and stored them away in a cache....when they needed them they would bring them out and notch them for hafting....there are more either in the creek or still in the bank
Dang, that's a good'n.
The other pieces of those stone points are somewhere in the Earth. Benton big enough to kill a Mastodon and well may have.
Congratulations man smokers for sure
Appreciate it Garrett...thanks for your comments
Do you think i could find anything in my creek its filled with vegetation and its sandy 🤔
That's not good.....pretty much all creeks have artifacts in them.,but some are way better than others. Fellow Mississippian here, how do you go about getting permission to walk these creeks? Or do you just go for it haha?
My area is mostly owned by a handful of farmers and if I don't know them.,I know someone that does. With that said.,there are also creeks in my area that people have been hunting for years and are basically considered public because the landowners see no harm in people getting in their creeks.
Niceee
♥
Not just on the surface
are these real views...? or purchased views?
Ahaha....all my views are real.
6000 years BC 😂 K
Look up archaic period ....and teach yourself something
Oh.,and I said Bp....which stands for radiocarbon years before present
@ why? I have read it. Most of it's nonsense.
@@BrettL250 what's nonsense about archeological periods and the latest technology in radiocarbon dating..?

Lost around 5,000 years ago? The flood of Noah’s time that destroyed the whole earth was around 4,000 years ago.

That's trespassing. I know the guy that owns that property and I know for sure he didn't give permission for anyone to be on it.
Oh really...?? And where exactly do you think this is..?
No thinking required, I could have a video of the exact location tomorrow if I wanted to.
hot damn what a killer blade, brother, congrats!
