Maybe so, but having one engine would allow its pilots to have more options and a better chance at an emergency landing, thus ensuring a higher survivability rate.
AWACS are not exactly sitting ducks against enemy missiles. They're huge targets that can't maneuver, but they're also slow so they can notch relatively easily, and they have a gigantic radar dish they can use to decoy the missile with chaff, jamming, phantom returns, etc.
Modern AWACS are loaded with voodoo electronic counter measure suites. An incoming missile has to be fast and smart to burn through the jamming wall they can put up let alone onboard trail-able decoys floating temptingly just 50m astern. That 37M was tired and out of breath by then, no way it could have made those last few turns that were required for the final intercept.

Yes, this has been possible for around 30ish years. As long as the AEWACS has constant tracking data and his linked to the firing aircraft, the AEWACS can absolutely guide that missile in without the firing aircraft needing to use it’s own radar.

I doubt so. This takes place in Europe, with some unnamed NATO country, so I doubt they would just have F-35’s or F-22’s so readily available, unless it was a direct attack on said airbase that housed these aircraft, so it’s likely there are F-35’s and F-22’s in reach of this airbase, but the process would take too long.
