      The scheme needs to be half obvious, but not too obvious. So greedy people think they are above it all and join to scam dumber people. That is how it works.

    Any game developer will tell you that the platform first, gameplay second angle is beyond wrong. You always prototype gameplay first to make sure you have a playable game to build around BEFORE you start building a gigantic world to put that gameplay in. Otherwise, you risk wasting a ton of time and resources building an environment for something that sucks or is fundamentally broken. Even if you look at this in good faith, the entire process is ass backlwards and doomed to fail from the start.

    For what little this is worth, Star Citizen starts at $45, and a bigger more expensive ship just means you have to have friends with you to run the thing. You can't just pay $3000 (the most expensive ship) and lord it over everyone. You'll have a huge ship that's very slow and nobody to shoot things. And the biggest reason, fuel costs scale with the size of your ship.
    Most ships are available to earn in game as well, so there's no reason to spend more than the base price unless you just wanna throw money at the game (do not recommend).

    • @Odeezee
      @Odeezee 2 года назад +1

      not just earn in-game, but can be rented in game for a fraction of the cost, then you can use the rented ship to earn money until you can afford to buy the ship outright with in-game currency. there is such a low barrier of entry to getting better ships in Star Citizen and all buying a ship with actual cash does is help fund the development of the games (yes they are two games; Squadron 42 - single player campaign set in the same universe and Star Citizen - the mmo) and save you some grind when the very infrequent wipes that occur, as the game is still in development.

    To put it bluntly- The house always wins. Gambling is *always* statistically stacked in favor of the house- if you play long enough, you will *always* lose more than you earn.
    Like, maybe you gamble once, make a decent winning, and walk. That's the best-case scenario. But if you were to keep gambling, it's guaranteed that you will lose more money to the house than you win from the house in the long run. Its why casinos are so profitable.

Although, I still don't like that you can pay money to just skip all work and gameplay. The idea that someone can just get the best ships immediately at the swipe of a card, meanwhile someone else has to "grind" hours for a ship really annoys me. To the people arguing that if you're lucky in a casino, you can win. Sure, you can. But consider this: Giving away money is the WORST business model possible.
    Casinos can only stay in business if they are taking more money from the players than they give out. Also consider the fact of how big and expensive casinos are to build and operate, and how they continually do big giveaways for absurd amounts. How do they pay for that?

    • @clownworld5474
      @clownworld5474 2 года назад +3

      Well there's a house edge in every single game. So no matter what happens, the casino doesn't lose. They may have ups and downs daily, but they will win the house edge on average over a large sample size. A player may get lucky, but if they continue to play they will lose. Even if they don't play after winning big, the other players losses will make up for that.

    I can HIGHLY recommend Star Citizen. I'm an ex Blizzard Dev and I haven't been so excited about a project. This is the MMO that I've been wanting to play since I started playing Everquest back in the day. The basic gameplay loops that have already been implemented are INCREDIBLY fun! Just EXISTING in the universe is fun. And as far as the ship prices? Better than 90% of the ships that are available can be purchased with in-game credits. I've been playing the game for months and I got started for $45. The only reason to pay actual money for a ship is that if you don't, you'll lose it if they do a server wipe. Seriously, though, give it a shot. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

    • @Odeezee
      @Odeezee 2 года назад

      no to mention the only reason why wipes currently exist is because they are still in heavy development, but the wipes are very infrequent only one in the last 2 years. but all ships that are flyable in the alpha can be RENTED with in-game currency for a very small fraction of the in-game cost of buying the ship with in-game credits. The biggest flaw in the logic of "oh we know this will take ten years to make because technology isn't where we need it", that means they want to do this when it's already the main stream thing. They wont be first to the party if they are waiting for someone else to develop the technology they need.
    By the time they can make a game the size of earth, RDR2 detail, with no loading screens and is completely seamless, most devs will also be able to do the same. So they will just be another face in the crowd.

    Hey, at least Star Citizen did "something". I mean, I'm aware they're light years away from the thing they promised to build at the beginning, but at least they built something that exists and is real. They did a bunch of fund raising, they did a bunch of presentation and then they showcased the technology they built.
    Yeah, the game will never be "finished" (and if they actually release a final version it'll be in 2050 or something like that) and some stuff costs a thousand dollars, but at least it's something right?
    This Earth 2 scam is just smoke and mirrors and when they finally set a deadline to showcase some actual progress they'll either disappear or make up some bullshit as to why the project is cancelled due to outside interference or something like that

    • @Apav1x

      Scams like Earth 2 and Star Atlas are what the masses assume what Star Citizen is. I still see people parroting information that was only relevant for the 2.0 patches (to put it into perspective, 3.0 was released nearly 5 years ago). I've even seen people still assume that you can only look at ships in your hangar and not fly them, which stopped being the case in 2014. If there is one silver lining here though, it's that these scams help recontextualize SC. Though it remains to be seen if the masses will be perceptive to their differences.

Just give us a few hundred bucks per skill and you too can already hit an NPC with skills! See we're almost there!"

      @@EskChan19 There are valid arguments that it's horribly mismanaged, but zero for that it's actually a scam. If it's a scam, then why haven't they drastically cut scope and ported it to consoles to push out whatever it would be to call it "released?" That would make them orders of magnitude more money than they do now (SC's srevenue is peanuts compared to multiplatform AAA multiplayer games and as it stands their company is barely treading water as they expand even more as per their financials). Why does Roberts even bother to micromanage everything to a fault as he does, when he could just fuck off to diving into his Scrooge McDuck piles of gold letting the game spin on its wheels and gain the same amount of money without him being so involved behind the scenes?

    Star Citizen costs only 45$ to start with then earn the rest in game. Everything else is just support for the game. The big ships are not required to buy at all. But to skip some grind maybe a startership of 100$ will be better. But no need to do that from the start. Just buy the 45$ aurora the ntry the game and if its cool for you buy a bigger one you like. Maybe the mining ship to make quick money or a ship for bounty hunting.
    Star Citizen has a somewhat bad reputation from trolls and old accusations that still are spread in the internet mostly from hear saying and not people who actually tried it.
    But who ever gets into SC now. Be warned it is still in Alpha and whole new gameloops are still beeing added. So things sometimes are a bit buggy even thos since about a year they really put effort in stabalizing it. Now they added also a crash recovery so we dont lose our goods anymore in rare cases of server crashes that were one year ago still very much present. Now more a rarity.
    I wouldnt say its fleshed out enough yet to have it as a game that you will play day by day. But it is enough to get 50h+ of excitment out of it just trying out what it already there.
    Like the feel of size and the eyecandy is awesome. The love for detail and other things you cant find in other games i think.

    A bit about slots gambling - my uncle was a professional gambler and explained the process when I was very young but the basic gist is this: slot machines in casinos at least are required by law to pay out certain dividends. My understanding is that groups of savvy individuals would be able to spot certain indicators that a group of machines was about to pay out big. At that point they would sit down 5-10 at a time on a group of games and start plugging and chugging this increasing the chances of someone from their team hitting the jackpot. While I don’t think it’s technically illegal they have certainly been banned from their share of casinos over the years 😅

    how many people does he expect will play the game? 100k? 200k? a more realistic number will be 30k online at once and i'm super over estimating this number for the sake of argument. most of those people spread out, they will spend a lifetime in the game without running into another player. more than likely, they will all congregate around a few colonies that take up about 20k square km.
