One thing though. Move further away from your green screen. You want to have yourself lit separately from it and so you don't cast a shadow on it. This makes keying so much easier.

I'd love to see an update to the endless hallway... somehow making it look a bit more realistic? I dunno, like, somehow extending out the sightline or at least making it not look like it's a bit of glass at the end of the hall...
I’ve ridden the haunted mansion a couple times in the past 2 weeks and my hottest take is that Constance needs to be replaced or refreshed :/
I’ll like to see the zombified hand sticking out from behind one of the corridor of doors like wdw haunted mansion used to have.
The candle man would work best in a dark area like madam leotas room. I think that room can stand to be dressed up in weird stuff, like a mini museum if the weird.

Introducing a new character like the The Candle Man into the attraction would be a interesting idea. The answer is where to place him in the ride?
Maybe the ballroom or hide in the attic. I think he should be lurking in the dark
I think it would work best as a hidden detail. The ballroom would work perfectly but only if the candle man is the size of a candle and was amongst other candles so it doesn't stick out. That's my best idea.
Standing in the corner of the Corridor of Doors where the table and framed family portraits currently are. It's a discreet, quick peek location that would draw more eyes with the figure’s illuminated candles.

Either in the solarium where the open casket is before Madam Leota's room or at the end of the endless hallway maybe forming from the floating candelabra

God bless Kim Irvine! It seems like she’s the sole caretaker (see what I did….) of old-school Disneyland. She’s worked on plussing and refreshing classic attractions while remaining true to its original essence. Since her mom was a Haunted Mansion Imagineer, I believe anything that’s added to the HM will bring us HM fans joy.
Not to mention Kim is the Madam Leota of Haunted Mansion Holiday. If anyone can plus Haunted Mansion, it’s Kim.
She really killed it redoing the Snow White ride too. She's also behind the new Adventureland Treehouse, which I'm really liking the plans for!

Wax candle man was my first thought when they added the bat in the cage too! They have the concept art for him in the new Disney 100 gallery in Main Street right now so I feel like that’s a potential hint
I think we need a new attic bride animatronic. take a page out of pirates of the Caribbean book going back and not forward and go with a more classic disney effect. We dont need a super high tech new effect or animatronic. just make her look like the original beating heart bride and keep her Constance lines.

It’s funny that the best rides at Disney are still the originals that were built in the 60s and early 70s. The attention to detail was unparalleled to today’s green screen atrocities. If they were to design the haunted mansion today it would be similar to Mickey’s runaway railroad.

If they did it today it would be like Mystic Manor as well, which would be amazing but this absolute classic is more than enough.
Mickey’s Railway is nothing more than a really bad fever dream.
I will say I only want them to add Candle Man if they're okay with him being legitimately terrifying. I want them to be as true as possible to the concept art, and I don't want them dialing him back. It's okay if they tuck him away in the background somewhere though. If anything that might make him even scarier.
Not sure about corpse-in-a-clock. We already have one iconic clock and two might be a bit much.
What I want is for them to add the Miser changing portrait (where you see a man sell his soul to the devil)
Thank you for keeping me in the loop with all the Disney chatter. I don’t get to go very often. Offhand Disney makes me feel like I visit the parks far more often than I can afford. I actually only get to go About once every 15 years. Haunted mansion is the best thing on earth.
If I ever get a job In imagineering, I’d pitch an idea where each member of SEA had an area of exploration/expertise, and Leota Tombs was the explorer of death/the afterlife. She heard stories of the haunted mansion and found out about all the previous residents and bought it to continue her exploration. She tried to connect with different ghosts over the years, and didn’t let her own death derail her efforts.
Would love to hear your thought on the Story Beyond event they did at Tokyo's Mansion. Thay added some props in the ride that are tied to the story and character afaik.

As a huge Haunted Mansion fan, I was so excited to hear the news about the bat! As soon as I heard about it, I knew an Offhand Disney video wouldn't be far behind😄 Sad to hear that it's been removed. Hopefully, it won't be for long.
Would love to see some projection mapping added to parts, but I mainly want the missing pieces of audio restored to the corridor of doors and Leota’s seance room.

What would I like to see in a Haunted Mansion update? I'm with you about wanting the Candle Man, but I'd also love to see the soaking wet Captain Gore illusion the Imagineers were so excited to make, with the water pouring off him. But it'd have to be the practical illusion, of course.

The addition of the wax candle man ghost would be awesome! Also, would love to see ghosts inspired by old concept art that have morbidly grotesque features. They should also put in the original bride ghost in the attic. That one was much creepier

I do love the Haunted Mansion, whether it’s in Disneyland in California or Walt Disney World in Florida. I think I like the Disney World’s version more than Disneyland. I still like the Disneyland’s version, there’s some things that Disney World’s version that Disneyland’s version doesn’t.
Just before the opening of the Shanghai Disney World, I kept seeing a RUclips commercial that showed what appeared to be their version of the Haunted Mansion. The ride was clearly NOT the Mystic Manor, but rather a walk-through version of a HM quite similar to Walt's original idea. What's interesting is that the commercial showed a real set with a young couple running through a few rooms, one being a recreation of the 'skeleton in a bath' concept art scene from the original HM. Unfortunately, I've never heard anything about this ride and it doesn't appear to ever have actually been built (I'm guessing the commercial was filmed in a studio sound stage for TV). Does anyone know anything more about this curious Disney mystery?

@@idk-zt8rx Yes, I only wish I had recorded the commercials at the time because I cant find any record of it now. I'd also ask anyone who might know, was this an actual proposed ride at Shanghai Disney, or was it just some sort of weird PR stunt.
I bet you the bat 🦇 was removed because resembled an ashtray, it was sitting too close to the chair. My best guess as to why it was in & out so fast 🤷♀️ (this is just my opinion, not confirmed fact)

I don't get why the new HM movie is being released in the summer (originally in August, recently bumped up to July), rather than in mid-to-late September or October. I mean...this is tailor-made for the spooky season. Wasn't that one of the many mistakes they made with the previous one...releasing it AFTER Halloween?
because most people don't care about "spooky season" can't stand it when people go on about "spooky season" and have no problems with watching "horror" movies whenever the mood strikes not just "spooky season"
Updates are a Hell of lot better than Retheming Attractions, Iam sick of Disney siding with people that are Offended over Original Attractions and Scrapping a Legacy of Walt Disney this has been a problem ever since 2020, yes an Update on the Haunted Mansion is great they SHOULD Add Captain Gore in the Attractions new Generations can learn the original Haunted Mansion History, it's great to finally see another Offhand Disney Haunted Mansion Film I love it when you do Haunted Mansion RUclips Films God's Blessings Dallin
I never really loved the nightmare before Christmas overlay, and now I hate it even more that it stays on for longer. I hate it! Just love the original HM 🙂
i prefer they leave all the new stuff in the WDW haunted mansion and leave the disneyland version more or less unchanged, other than upkeep. I prefer having the classic animatronics rather than replace everything with a bunch of projectors and screens. I don't want the ride to lose its late 60s/early 70s identity, its one of the things that makes it special, like a time-capsule for classic disneyland
A way they could add Danny and Owen without a huge change could be by placing them in the ballroom scene reacting to the ghosts like they do with the sleigh during Haunted Mansion Holiday dragging in snow to the room.

Naw, I don't want "updates" to the Mansion, I want it restored to its former greatness.
The Eddie Murphy movie was a disappointment. This next one may be better, but it, too, will fall out of favor. Walt and his crew did a great job.
Everyone seems to think today's imagineers and fans are automatically qualified and superior, so naturally, they can improve the HM.
Nonsense! Go come up with your own original hit attraction. If you're so much more clever than the old guys, your brand new attraction will be the greatest thing to ever open in Disneyland.
I'd rather have them replace the missing Ghost Host lines recorded by Paul Frees ( I used to hear them in the ride) than add clutter like the pet cemetery. Open a Nightmare Before Christmas and let the HM be itself year round!!!

Just please don't put Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, and Danny DeVito animatronics into the ride after the movie comes out. We are able to enjoy these rides without a movie tie in. They never should have put Johnny Depp and Geoffery Rush into the Pirates ride. It is possible to enjoy both without tying them together.
WDW Mansion needs some love. It needs the original hitchhiking ghosts at the end back. I'd also be down to replace Constance Chatty-way... I mean Hatchaway.
I think it would be worth their while to embrace simplicity in any new figures they add. The bat works so well because its simplicity gels perfectly well with the simple late-60s setpieces and figures that it sat near. The Hatbox ghost, while a lovely addition and an impressive animatronic, sort of sticks out like a sore thumb with its state of the art mechanics and movements. It doesn't move like everything else in the attraction, so it feels kinda out of place. If Imagineering didn't treat every new addition like a showstopping centerpiece and instead focused on how to integrate something new into something so old, it would work far better. The bat is a perfect example of what to do.
@Offhand Disney I’m planning to Make a bigger Lego Version of The Haunted Mansion surprisingly though I’m working with one Disney Star on this creation from Haunted Mansion (2023) I will be adding some new rooms inside of the Lego building
You should cover indiana jones, this refurbishment is gonna be massive and hopefully brings back all of the abandoned and forgotten effects
I had always wanted them to redo the loading area. When I had worked it one of my supervisors had told me of disneys blue sky ideas that they were told. They wanted at one point to do something similar to phantom Manor.

I remember when the pet cemetery was hidden to the right and around the corner from the entrance and you had to ask to walk around to see it (1986).

I wouldn't peg you as a Smashing Pumpkins fan.
It does worry me that they might change HM to fit the narrative of the new movie coming out. I wasn't a fan of the change of the Pirates ride. It felt like to much a leap from the ride that inspired the movie to the movie that inspired the ride. I'm worried that they'll change too much of HM to connect to the movie that it won't feel the same.
So cool for them to periodically, easily add, little things for major Disney nerds to find. Keep it up.
Even though they just updated the pet cemetery, I still think it be pretty cool to have Zeros tombstone there, as just a little reference. These days you can’t think of the Haunted Mansion without Nightmare before Christmas lol. I would also love to see some of the other unused concepts. Such as, the green house in the que, the woman trapped in the mirror, the extra portraits around the 13 hour clock, the ghosts on the spinning door/shelf, etc. and this is just me, maybe they can install a new backdrop for the loading area. The mist is cool, but they could really use something different.

I believe in one of the radio promos a character with a voice like Peter Lorre (Paul Frees) refers to the the “one-eyed black cat.” How about changing the dancing couples in the ballroom so the men are actually leading the women instead of the other way around which was a design oversight? I don’t think anyone would really notice except those with an extremely keen eye for detail. In combination with your trackless ride suggestion: if they went that route they could actually expand the Mansion to include all the horrifying and gruesome stuff in a completely separate section-an addition to the original show building-that riders would have to actively “opt into” at the beginning of the ride. Perhaps in the graveyard the potential for the “track” to split into two: one track takes the traditional route through the cemetery but the other sends the Doombuggy into a mausoleum entrance and into the truly scary part after which it rejoins the original track queue.

I agree - adding more creepy and spooky elements to the haunted mansion ride would be great! Strange how that bat in the cage was only there for a couple days. The wax candle man was also a pretty cool drawing! Would like to see that become a reality somewhere in the mansion.

Here's a weird one. Add floating doors behind the loading station at Disneyland, where they put the big pile of presents during the Holiday overlay.
I've always wanted to see it as an extended scene with massive windows looking out into New Orleans but at night with the hints of happy haunts waiting to get in for the ballroom party

I don't mind it so far, but I share the reservations that some people have that stuffing in too many of the previously rejected concepts will dilute the Mansion simplicity and accessibility. I mean, most of these pieces don't necessarily add to the story (or more precisely, the narrative logic of the Mansion, since it doesn't have a story per se), they're just easter eggs for fans who recognize them from concept art, which in turns takes you out of the ride. It ceases to be a haunted mansion and becomes a hunt for these easter eggs. I dunno'... I guess we'll find out.
How could these small "easter eggs" of Disney history take you out of the immersion of the mansion? Anyone that hasn't been on the attraction hundreds of times, wouldn't know they weren't original to the House. And those that have been on multiple times before, get the joy of seeing Disney plussing the classics with nods to the genius imaginears that created the attraction. I just see it as a win/win.
Adding movie characters in any way shape or form, is what would take me out of the story. Adding modern projection effects that don't match the rest of the attraction, Looking at you, brightly lit Constance and cartoony, animated face of the Hat Box Ghost, is what takes me out of the immersion.

Exactly. It's not immersing me in the Mansion's narrative anymore. It's pulling me out of it to think of Marc Davis, Claude Coats, Rolly Crump, and Ken Anderson.
And I disagree about your examples. I think Constance is rad. The Hatbox Ghost, though, is a bit "look at me! I'm that easter egg!"

There Was A Rumor That The Pirates Of The Caribbean,Jungle Cruise And The Haunted Mansion Story Lines For The Rides Was/Were Connected to each other. so the rumor was disney is or maybe will make the movies of these 3 rides connected.there is a video on here that tell these 3 rides are connected
I want Disney to add another Haunted Horror ride, so ppl don't cry if they changed the Haunted House, just make a whole new Horror dark ride and make it scarier for adults. Epic Universe is building a whole horror land.

Just rode HM at Dland on Friday, 4/7 and there were dozens of updates/changes that far-surpassed “sprucing up” - LOTS of new/dif characters in the graveyard - “ghosts come out to socialize” scene, as well as the new portrait placements/cat and more, in the post-elevator walk-thru (which you mentioned)…those new bits, combined with a bunch more really subtle changes + some very easy to spot signs that portions were under CONSTRUCTION (weird plywood black walls, signs of stripped paint, cracks, etc) the thing felt like I was experiencing a ride I’ve known several times p/year for the last 30ish years (90s annual visitor-turned 2000s+ annual pass holder) in a new/different dimension. The “spirit” was there, but the tone was different (not bad, but different). I’m just glad that my uncanny valley experience, has been validated, by you confirming that changes are being made!
I'm sick to death of the stupid nightmare before Xmas..... I wish they'd just leave the mansion as Haunted mansion, how about build a nightmare before Xmas ride in cal. Adv. If people love it so much. But please just leave the mansion original. I'm probably the only one who hates the SIX MONTH LONG Xmas change, but yeah...

The Wax Candle Man unused Concept Art for The Haunted Mansion, kind of reminds me of Lumiere from Beauty and The Beast (1991). I wonder if they’re related somehow. What do you think, Offhand Disney? Do you think The Candle Wax Man and Lumiere are related?
I'm probably gonna catch heck for it, but I...would remove Constance and put the old bride back. I have never really been a fan of Constance's story, nor have I ever liked the projection effect of her figure. And much preferred the mystery that was the original beating-heart bride. Plus, the original was WAY creepier. >_> (Not to mention, the pop-up ghosts in there were what originally terrified me as a kid!)
Offhand Disney have you ever seen The Haunted Mansion movie , starring Eddie Murphy? Do you remember what the evil Butler’s Name is in the movie? I don’t remember what that particular Character’s Name is.
I hate The Nightmare Before Christmas overlay during Halloween season. They should borrow the license to Universal Monsters or Sleepy Hollow and do that during Sept-Oct.

At 4:46 that cat reminds me of a book most kids who grew up when the Haunted Mansion was new, called "Strangely Enough!" and this image of the cat sculpture is right out of that book, with a clay cat sculpture that had two rubies inserted into its base before it had been cured in the kiln. One of those lost treasures stories all children adore. It had an "X" scratched on its base but the man never came back to retrieve it, having been killed, presumably.....
