- The Haunted Mansion. We find ourselves wandering it's cobweb-infested halls once more. This time, with 3 different titles. See if you can catch all 3. The Mansion wouldn't be what it is without the ghosts, and so today (and next week), we'll be going through every ghost in the Haunted Mansion. We'll be exploring the backstory, mythology, and folklore that surround some of our lesser known friends. Join me, if you dare.

I worked at Disneyland in the mid 1980s. On one of the cast member family nights, my husband and I were able to waltz among the ghosts below the doom buggies. Magic memories indeed.

So did you dance in the ballroom or where the ghosts figures were? Because you can’t see the ghosts if you’re in the ballroom
Didn’t it creep you out? Ever?
Some of them wound up in knights armor just before that endless hallway as Dallin notes inn2018s Legends of the Haunted Mansion part 2 with that guy Ian
.
Just when you think Offhand has covered it all, he finds new things to share! Can't wait for the next Foolish Mortals!
Nice name bro 👍🏻😍
@@fatherdeerhands93 Likewise, Boba!
Man I’ve always wanted a video deep dive about all the ghosts. This is a perfect video.
One of my favorite youtubers watching another of my favorite youtubers! Love your narrations. :)
This is the crossover of the century
Yeah I know it’s 2 years late but never expected to see you here.
About hitchhiking ghosts: in the Philippines, we have a superstition called "pagpag" (literal meaning: to brush off or shake off dust) where on the way home from a cemetery, we have to stop off somewhere so any ghosts stay there instead of following us home. 24/7 convenience stores and fast food chains are the most popular choices for this practice lol.
😂😅
Always find it funny that Walt seemed to forget they were calling it The Haunted Mansion in the Disneyland TV special
I'm not sure if he's doing that because he genuinely doesn't remember, or if he's doing it so he can let the imagineer take over and introduce their own work. He seems to do it pretty regularly.
I think the house of illusions is a better title, since that is what it is.
“Museum of the Weird” was the first concept before the Haunted Mansion
@@Arquinsiel that's actually really sweet
@@wellokthen3834 It could be either thing. You'd have to ask someone who was there if there was a goal to it.
Now if only the channel knew someone like that and could find out for us...
According to an imagineer’s book I read years ago, the Hatbox ghost was “tossed around” as the ghost ofTrader Sam, who seemingly lost his head after coming to America to sell his “wares” in old hat boxes, as well as collecting those who lost their heads to guillotine. Not an official story but thought it was neat. I think it was a Rolly Crump interview 🤷🏼♀️
That definitely sounds like a Rolly Crump idea!
@@cannibalisticrequiem He’s the best. ❤️ I still want the Museum of the Weird!
According to an imagineers book I read years ago, the Hatbox ghost was tossed around as the ghost of Tanner Sam who simply lost his head after coming to America to sell his wire in the old hat box as well as a collection of those lost their head together 10 skeleton not an awful story but through it wasn't meat neat. I think it was a worry crump interview
@@tayloranderson7547 this makes zero sense, other than to reword my comment into something utterly unintelligible 🤦🏼♀️
I have heard it suggested that the totally-normal-not-evil raven is actually the host/guide as it is featured throughout the ride. The Haunted Mansion is absolutely my favourite attraction in my favourite part of the park.
the raven was originally supposed to be the host but they scrapped that idea !
Mine too
Not sure if you're late for the anniversary, early for Halloween, or right on time for Friday the 13th.
Whichever it is though, it's always a treat to return to the mansion!
Dallan is doing all at once
this is SO UNDERRATED
I think it’s right on time
I mean Disney world has already started celebrating Halloween so...
New Orleans square is so full of mystery and backstory, all the rides there feel so immersive. The Mansion is definitely the most immersive experience of all Disney rides for me.
I could not agree more. I prefer the shops and food in NOS as well. Definitely my favourite part of the park.
Expensive of old Disney rides for me
I was reading that at one time they wanted the raven to be the host or something to that effect. When I was a child in the 70s, I noticed that with the exception of the entry way and the stretching room, a raven is always nearby when the Ghost Host speaks (and a raven was in the concept art for those two rooms). So it made sense to me that the Raven was carrying the Ghost Hosts spirit, he's even watching you as you leave the attic. Creepy.
I think Offhand mentions that in one of his other Haunted Mansion videos.
And what did you leave attic. Creepy
I always headcannoned that the man in the coffin is 100% alive and has been trapped there by the less-benevolent residents of the mansion, as a hold-over from one of the earlier mansion concepts I'm sure we're all already familiar with.
As for the ballroom, I always assumed that the two dueling portraits were the two "victims of a dirty duel" whose tombstones we can find in the queue.
The coffin man is clearly a zombie though, he's all green and skeletal :V
Yeah when I was younger I always thought it was someone falsely pronounced dead and put in a coffin and was now trapped
As the ballroom I was ashamed the two of the darling pictures into victims of the dirty dirty ordeal duel worst tombstone we could have felt in the cute q u e e u e.
Julius Caesar, Cleopatra VII, and Mark Antony: *Are ghosts cursed to haunt the haunted mansion.*
Cato the Younger, acting as the guardian of Purgatory: “Lol. Lmao.”
Seems like a disembodied phantom possessed your editing software
Yeah I noticed that too. I wander if it was on purpose?
Ya know, after the 31 Days of The Haunted Mansion a couple of years ago, I didn't think you could come up with any new details about it. You did, and I salute you, sir.
My favorite inhabitant as a child was April December (aka the Muse) and apparently she has returned to the Disneyland Haunted Mansion! Can't wait to see her again!
Me either
what kind of relationship do you think all the ghosts have with one another? i imagine if they all hang out at the mansion that theres gotta be some type of ghost drama going on
oh and to answer the favorite ghost/disembodied voice: always gotta go with the ghost host!
Hey, thye most liekly eat at the ghost commisarry..
For real life
I love all your Haunted Mansion videos especially when it's a history video, but I have a question for you, have you ever read the Tales From The Haunted Mansion books. It's a bunch of stories told by the Mansion's librarian about it's residents. There are 4 book and they are really good. This video just reminded me of them and I thought you might be interested.
Yes they are good . book
Not only do I learn interesting things, I totally enjoy watching these humorous mini docs. Thanks Offhand Disney!!

Dallin”Who is she? Where did she come from?”
My brain “Where did she go? Where did she go? Where did you come from, Cotton eye Joe?”
Where did she come from where she go? Where did she come from cotton eyed joe
I'm so glad you FINALLY did a video on the Haunted Mansion. Amazes me how you have ignored this attraction for so long. lol
Yeah, Dallin, you should check it out next time you visit Disneyland! I think you might enjoy it!
he's got several videos on the haunted mansion
@@kaelang12 that's why I put 'lol' at the end, he has more than a couple, he's kinda obsessed.
@@coppertopolo no, really. It's not like he mentions it in several of his other videos. Oh wait, he does.
@@carronade2456 Dallin has MOSTLY HM videos here..LO..and I appreciate 'im for that, and some other topics
I expect nothing less from you, Offhand. Good work!
I've watched a zillion videos and have ridden HM easily over 25 times, yet I still learned something new in this video. Well done!
14:55 "this woman" is E.J Peaker. I love that Osmond haunted mansion special.
Shall we call you our new ghost host. 👻 I love the opera singer!
6:04 the scream and the crashing sound in the stretch room always confused me it feels like an effect that was for somthing that never was built.
In some if the unused ride audio, there was also a voice yelling "caw caw he chose the coward's way" which IIRC, was supposed to also be a raven like the ones in the ride
It was supposed to be the skeleton falling to the floor and braking into pieces. Except that you do not see any bones on the floor. Maybe the skeleton is actually a phantom and the real ghost host skeleton is still in its grave?
I always imagined it was supposed to be someone being scared so badly they run through the wall, creating your path out of the stretching room and prompting the Host to apologize for frightening you prematurely.
A thousand views in 27 minutes. Great job, Dallin!
TBH, I was hoping you'd talk about the other ghosts of the ball room like the Birthday lady and her guests in the table, Pickwick, the organ player and the ball room dancers.
Maybe next part?
For real life
I know you might not be interested in revisiting Sea of Thieves (or maybe you already have, just not for a video), but the 3rd Pirates of the Carribean tall tale is one you would must certainly love.
that tall tale was amazing, i loved it so much
Yes it is
Dude your Haunted Mansion deep dives are second to none 🤘🏻
I literally never get tired of haunted mansion videos, what's wrong with me...
"What is she doing with them? I don't know. Maybe delivering them to Colonel Sanders" had me legitimately laughing out loud. I don't know why I found that so hilarious.
You never know maybe Colonel Samders lives in the mansion too, making KFC for all the ghosts 😂
Might be my favorite Offhand Disney episode! Favorite ghost though is a harder question. I might have to go with the Hellhound because he’s a good boy
watching this while drinking out of my haunted mansion mug
Doing the same!
Maybe the laughter at the exit is one of the hitchhiking ghosts following you home?
That intro music would be perfect in a haunted mansion themed video game
That last laugh you hear as you exit is the ghost that is following you home.
I've always been real interested in the background ghosts in the ballroom and graveyard (e.g. the duchess and king and queen on the teeter-totter, pickwick, the duelists, etc.) The ones you can't really get a good look at from the ride and who don't have the caliber of backstories that connie, leota, etc. have. Also the drunk guy under the ballroom table. I like him.
Thanks, Dallin! Perhaps the haunted mansion itself (maybe like The House of The Rising Sun etc.?), the Ghost Host or the Ghost that follows us home (as the bad pun implies) 'gets the last laugh' on us as we exit out.
I love every time you return to the Haunted Mansion for another overview...? afterview? mortalview? whatev. where we're going, we don't need words (just shrieks!)
im sorry Robert the doll for viewing your picture during this video! i mean no disrespect.
Are we entirely sure that the totally-normal-not-evil raven isn't a familiar?
Fun fact: The hitchhiking ghosts' names were actually fan-made, they were not officially named by Disney.
Love the use of Winchester Mystery House footage near the end.
hi dallin when i was a cast member i was told that the raven is named lucifer or lucy and that she was originally supposed to be the host of your tour, hence why her beak opens so much and you see her throughout the attraction. the idea was scrapped but lucy lives on :)
Yes! Finally another Offhand haunted mansion vid!
Is the Part Two going to include the interactive queue line stuff? Because those look pretty interesting! But the inside of the ride is fun
19:34 very faint windows error sound. wonder where it came from
I really wish the creepy talking gargoyles would be added to the one here in Anaheim. How brilliantly spooky.
Gotta love all of the Poe references! 🙌🏻
In one of the Haunted Mansion comics I have, the ghost holding the candles down the corridor and the zombie trying to escape the coffin were actually partners in building the mansion. But they wanted the fame of building the mansion for themselves. So the trapped each other in the mansion with no way out. The coffin zombie was, obviously, trapped in the coffin and left to die, while the ghost holding the candles was led through a maze of corridors, never to find his way out. Pretty dark, but it was a good issue!!!
This channel make me fall in love with the Haunted Mansion~🖤🖤
Awesome video as always, I really loved it!!! Looking forward for part two 🦜
And remember, next time you’re eating KFC, Little Leota will be watching quietly from a corner 🤫🍗🍓
One of your best..proud of you.. you know your history..keep it up man..
Catching up on my haunted mansion knowledge before the movie
Great job, sorry it crashed, maybe one ghost did follow your home!!!😱
Always excite to hear some Offhand Disney!
This video really complimented the Haunted Mansion episode of Behind the Attraction I just watched over on Disney+.
The fact that 2 of my favorite places to visit(disneyland and Winchester mystery house) are connected... Is just mind blowing. Cause I didnt know that until a few years ago.
A part 2 will be worth making Dallin, not far from the 52nd Anniversary of The Haunted Mansion if this was Published on that day that would have been Awesome! The Hitchhiking Ghosts are always a Favorite including the Ghost Host and Hatbox Ghost, since I have now begun My Mickey Mouse Films here on RUclips I Actually have planned a Mickey Mouse Film with Ghosts of the Haunted Mansion in the Future that will happen! I really find this exciting and I can't wait for part 2 you and Fastpass Facts should do a Haunted Mansion Origins 3 on Jean Lafitte where he fits in with Pirates of The Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion as they are both connected together Attractions I look forward to next week
He did one!
I heard that the raven is in every room because he is in fact, our host.
What I wouldn't give to be able to roam freely in the haunted mansion!
Last week I ordered some "Huanted" candles from Magic Candle. Just to get really in the mood I'm ignighting them to watch this.
Excited for part two!
Very impressive, informative, well produced document, of the Haunted Mansion. Where I thought I knew everything, about the Haunted Mansion, I am surprised of what I didn’t know. Excellent job!
i love that as many times as ive been on the rides, there's still details i missed. would be embarrassing if it wasn't so exciting to get new things to appreciate.
Don't forget that the Hatbox Ghost is also Constance's Husband..... (it says so in the album version of the story and song of the haunted mansion)
I had that album as a kid. Sweet memory.
could the hatbox ghost just be a hat sales man that lost his head selling hats and now haunts the hats?
I love how you used MellowB1rd's "poltergeist" activity videos - not for nothing but was that with permission? Considering those are likely about as "real" as Disney's version, if somewhat more hyperactive 😂
I think you missed one literary celebrity in the ballroom -
Standing on the chandelier and toasting us with a glass of burgundy is unmistakably Charles Dicken's Mr Pickwick
Another brilliantly insightful, engaging and charming video!
You are a shining light among Disney park videographers
a haunted mansion episode??? unheard of
I like the hellhound 😊 I think he and the groundskeeper’s dog should be friends 💚
I thought that laughter was always someone trying to be dumb. I didn’t know it was recording! After all these years!!!
The phantom horse is supposed to have a name right? I've herd different ones but can't find anything official.
At 14:47, the woman who says she does not like bats is E.J. Peaker, an entertainer hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is still with us and is currently 79 years of age.
The boy next to her is Donny Osmond from the famous Osmond family of singers. Donny is currently 65 years of age. He also has a famous sister, Marie Osmond.
More likely revenant than zombie - zombies don't talk; also, more likely Augustus than Julius, since Augustus and Marc Antony were (allegedly) rivals for Cleopatra; and I've never seen the Pirate Captain in the ballroom, but he looks kinda like Captain Kangaroo...
The Hellhound might actually be a Grim. There's an old legend that the first person buried in any new cemetery must work as the guardian of that graveyard and help guide new arrivals into the Beyond. No one really wanted to be stuck with this job, so the community would sacrifice a dog and bury it in the new place, thus created a Grim.
I love that once you spend years getting into the history of the mansion, you knot only recognize all the Imagineers, you recognize who made which concept paintings.
PS, pretty sure that laughing ghost at the end is Candy Candido.
Yeah, it’s him, feelin’ mighty deep…😂🤣😆
For those who don’t know, the beloved Hatbox Ghost aka “Hattie” is being added to the Haunted Mansion in the Magic Kingdom in Orlando. He will be stationed at the endless hallway.
Excellent that the greatest specter of all the Disney haints will be taking up residence in central Florida.
as a fellow mansion maniac, i am on the edge of my seat ready for the next vid
Cobwebs, creaky doors and floors? Why isn't my house filled with ghosts? Unless! It means that... my house isn't in Disneyland. Pity.
Thanks for putting this out; it's crazy how much history there is around this ride. Btw, it might just be me but it seems like your audio has been kinda off in the last couple videos. It kinda sounds like the wire on your mic is loose or something.
Another hitchhiking ghost comes from Japanese folklore. If you happen to see a dead cat (or other animal) in the road, you are NOT to think, and especially not to say, "Aw, poor thing." The ghost of the cat will sense your sympathy, latch on to you, and follow you home where it will take up residence in your house as a "bake-neko" (this name is for cats only).
Is that promo video of the "oh the bats" girl the lady who played Minnie Fay in Hello Dolly?
Yes, indeed! That is EJ Peaker.
Little Leoata is holding what are obviously cala lillies. A traditional Victorian era graveside flower offering for the remembrance of the dead. Not bundles of herbs.
6:00 there is no purpose for the stretch room at the Disneyworld Haunted Mansion. However, the Stretch gallery at the Disneyland Haunted Mansion proved so popular, it was added to the mansion on the east Coast, prior to it's opening.
I don't want to be a doubter but I don't think the piano room ghost (10:40) is a phantom. Earlier you said phantoms have no physical form/reality, but to have a shadow you would need some kind of physical form... here comes some nerd knowlege but I'd say its more likley to be a Shade which can also be called a "death-shadow". In short a shade is the spirit of a dead person that is only seen in shadow form 👍 (sorry that was long, also if im wrong about anything please tell me!)
.
(I know Mr Offhand Disney most likley wont see this but I just thought I'd share for any comment surffers yk)
People used to cary satchels and vials of "powdered mummy" because they thought it could heal whatever ailed them. And yes, they did consume the human remains
Phasmaphobia has trained me for this day 🤣 i know too much about ghosts now. I loved the vid! I wasmt expection so many descriptions of the types of ghosts there are in the mansion. Awesome idea
Would really love it if you covered the history of the portraits in the mansion, specially the sinister 11 from WDW/Tokyo Disneyland
17:00 is just a standard A100 with a hat box head and cloak someone built the convention not the one used on the ride
I didnt go on the ride and waited at the exit so i became very familiar with the laughing ghost thank you very much
(I love creepy ideals but hate being scared-total wimp, could not ride)
The duelist are actually the Auctioneer and another pirate from Pirates of the Caribbean, but wearing Victorian clothes
This is probably my favorite video that I've ever seen on the Haunted Mansion, and I've seen A TON!
Btw, On sunday, March 22, 1970, “The Magical World of Disney” aired a show filmed at Disneyland that featured EJ Peaker, the Osmond Brothers and a young Kurt Russell, who was fast becoming an adult.
The show is as vanilla as it can be but you do get to go ride along with the cast as they ride through the Haunted Mansion. Pkus, some of the goings on behind the scenes are shown. So, it is worth a look if you can stomach the musical numbers.
Finally, the whole show can be found here on RUclips.
Can you do a video about Saudi Arabia's new city Neom? I know it's not really Disney related but I think it's similar to Walt's concept for E.P.C.O.T.
How many ghosts in each attraction?
The last guys name is Chuck, he was a comedian who died doing comedy at the manor, and laughs whenever he thinks that humans are great comedy gold.
Another theory/ story a cast member gave to our group was that Constance actually pushed us (the rider) off the balcony from the Attic and we fall and die hence why that part we travel backwards and fall within the graveyard with all the spirits.
