After extensive testing of linear vs. switching power supply we have decided that we can't get the same subjective (dynamic) sound quality, every possible switching power supply fell short when compared to oversized toroid. Roughly , with the DAC and analog section being the same as in the original BB (or BDAC+) the subjective sound quality is about 20% better. The background is blacker, the transients are deeper and faster and the bass is thigh but also extended by couple of octaves. Built in transformer is a better solution than an external linear power supply as several separate windings and regulators can be used. The BB2 has a separate power for +-15V analog for analog and preamp, +-15V for the balanced headphone amp, , +5V analog, +12V, +5V and +3.3V digital all separately regulated. The playback engine is the Roon software, and it will play all local files in all formats including DSD and hi-res streaming from Qobuz, Tidal and KBox and can play Roon radio stations. This functionality exists today (August 2023). All other internet sources can, for the moment be played via Bluetooth. However- the Linux shell for Roon, that we call "Mytek OS" is a software platform that will be continuously developed and functions will be added. One of the first new additions that we plan for late Fall is the Upnp (Universal plug and play). This will allow using native smartphone/tablets apps such as Spotify connect, Tidal connect and similar "connect" radios and streaming services. However Roon provides unparalleled feature rich browsing experience with full metadata that is the industry best. That's why we opted for adding the Roon Core inside the product. If you do not intend to use Roon, you may consider the original, simpler and less expensive Brooklyn Bridge streaming DAC.
