I always assumed the "shaving makes it grow faster" myth started because young people generally grow patchier beards than they do when they get old, so it might look like the shaving makes your beard more full as you keep shaving, but gradually get better at growing a beard.
My dad could never grow more than patchy chin stubble his entire life. But he's 52 going on 53 and for the first time he's able to grow a beard. So don't lose hope, you might just end up being able to grow one in your 50's.

I hate my beard. It feels SO ANNOYING when I don't shave it every day. You can have it if I can have a second life as a girl. Curiosity reigns supreme.
Best advice for growing a beard that I saw in some random RUclips video is, grow it out for 3 months. No trimming, no shaping, just grow it out. After 3 months, you should have a decent, passable beard, and then you can shape and trim to emphasize it.
As an expansion to this video: Why do some hairs stop growing while others continue? Let a woman grow her hair out for years and it could reach the floor, but shave off her eyebrows and they will only grow back to their original length. Chihuahuas are short haired for life, while other breeds require constant shaving like a person's hair. How do those short-hair follicles know when to stop?
They don't stop. The hairs in your eyebrows keep growing indefinitely. But they fall out when they reach a certain length, and then you start over with a new hair in that spot. So none of them get any longer than that. Chihuahuas work the same way.
@@MundaneGray Eyebrows don’t necessarily fall out. What happens is that the eyebrow hairs don’t have the same strength as per say a head hair so they grow a lot slower and I mean a lot slower. For a head hair to grow it usually takes 1 month per inch or so around there. My eyebrows would literally take 3 to 6 months to grow out lol
Different types have different life-span. They have growth phase, then they die, and fall off, and new one start growing. It's genetic. We breed dogs to have different characteristics.
Minoxidil helped stimulate some of the facial hair I've got, but it won't work if you don't have follicles already there. I'm kind of accepting that I'm only ever going to have a goatee and a mustache.
Lucky you. I'm 19 and still get carded to buy beer every once in a while, despite the legal age being 16. I've got full coverage, but nowhere near enough density. Oh well, time will tell.
+Crow22Darkness still there are like 1 billion chinese people , so some have facial hair genes and some dont and thats alot of genes, some asians like those old masters in old kung fu flicks have long beards
My question is : Why do people have different body smell ? And how the smell is different in different body parts ? What is the science behind it , Thanks
Hossien Al-Qahtany Some body smells and not just the breath are indeed affected by the food you eat, e.g. garlic, there is a chemic reaction behind it. Also, metabolism and certain diseases like diabetes. I heard an interesting story about how dogs could be trained to detect some diseases in an early stage.
Combo of diet and genes. My half brother and his father tend to have a "cheesey" smell in their sweat and head oil. I tend to have a light musk that many people find more pleasant. Probably because I'm dairy free. You know how people like to say Indians smell like curry? Some of them say we (westerners that consume large amounts of dairy) smell like spoiled milk.
SciShow answered this questions before. The answer is: Body odour is mainly caused by bacteria around your sweat glands. Since everybody's armpits are different, every bacteria colony will evolve differently. This difference is what causes the different smells.
Biggest influence: Bacteria living in and on your body. Different kinds of bacteria in different numbers on and in different body parts. Your food also plays a role. The smell usually gets created by bacteria digesting your sweat. That is something that you should've learned in the 6th-7th grade. (Atleast in Germany...)
there is hope for all guys, just wait once you get passed 60 hair starts growing all over your body except the top of your head where you will want it the most
So, in reality, a thick, bushy beard isn't the result of manliness, it's the result of sensitivity. Sensitive widdle hair fowicles wesponding to their widdle hohmone fwends...
Deci Mations: Even with testosterone is not guaranteed you'll grow a beard, for beard to grow your follicles must be sensitive to certain hormones and testosterone to start growing beard and that's determined by your genes and how they react to your own hormones. I must know, I've got checked and my testosterone is normal but my beard is almost absent, other guys with normal testosterone have thick beards but also some baldness, at least I have no baldness which is nice.
+fhhh oh is he going to make a video about how death happens and pretend to explain to me scientifically that getting shot can kill me? The fucking geek did nothing. Its just bumping and humping thatl get it growing
There is a way to grow a beard but its a slow method. Its called minoxidil 5 percent. Its the same chemical ingredient that can be found in rogain which is used for people who are balding. You can buy the generic minoxidil brands such as kirkland or equate at walmart and walgreens, its like 10 dollars for a bottle that should last you a month. Apply twice daily and after about 3 months of daily use, you should start seeing results. Shaving every couple days while you apply it helps to let the minoxidil sink more into the skin(hence my bare face on my profile pic) Ive been doing it for about 4 months now and im very happy with the results. The hairs grow thicker now all along my jaw line were before i just had a little small baby patch of hair below my side burns for years. family and friends can now tell a big difference when i let it grow out. I highly suggest it for those trying to obtain beard/moustache growth. NOTE: minoxidil highly speeds up the growing process but with that said, everyone has different skin, so people get different results sometimes. Some people skin is thicker than others wich causes most of the minoxidil applied to sit outside the skin causing itching and small flaking. The more you can get absorbed into the skin the better, wich opens the pores alowing more blood to bring nutrients to the pores promoting thicker and more hair growth. The longer you use minoxidil the more hair growth youll see. Im currently going to see if i can do it for 12 months. Its too bad. If hank was working with google then google should of known this is one of the most talked about solutions on the net for beard growth. I really wanted hank to go indepth with minoxidil and other hair growth chemicals.
Bone Alias I've used Minoxidil against hair loss before, and where I live, it only comes with a medical prescription. So, there's got to be a good reason for that. (apparently, it can mess up your heart)
Bone Alias so far there hasent been any side effects for me but after my dad and brother seen my results they immediatly got on it. With my dad he tells me it gets itchy for him and starts to be flakey but i presume its because he's an older guy (56) and his skin is more thicker because his age wich makes it so the minoxidil doesnt get absorbed that well inducing the itching and small flaking. My bro is two months in and so far so good. I also havent experienced any withdrawal from it and i stopped cold turkey for a month straight. Plus the results stayed. So far for me and my bro its amazing.
piranha031091 i have heard minoxidil has been used as a prescription to lower blood pressure. Personally for me everything has been great. Maybe the concentration for your minoxidil was at a higher percent? Its sold on shelves here in the u.s at 5 percent. But i heard there is more concentrated forms at 15 percent and higher. Although only 5 percent is available here in stores.
I do have a question: Why is it that when I add just a single proton to an element, that element suddenly behaves vastly differently? And why doesn't adding neutrons or electrons do this as well?
Short answer is because adding a proton changes the charge and size of the nucleus. Changing the nucleus in this way alters the atomic and resulting molecular orbitals of said atom which means the atom can now interact with other atoms differently. Adding electrons doesn't change the nucleus and it doesn't alter the orbitals in the same way that changing the nucleus does, adding electrons only fills vacant orbitals. And they will only do that so long as it's stable, otherwise they just find somewhere else to go, a lower energy state.
***** It's harder to make a sprout taste nice than it is to buy chocolate. And if you say you don't like chocolate then you just haven't found the right chocolate
***** I've always loved vegetables. Hell, the one vegetable I didn't like (green beans) I recently retried again (as I regularly do with all foods I do not like because I'm well aware tastes change over time) and I liked it. Loved it, actually. I've always preferred broccoli and carrots in particular and green beans jumped straight up above carrots. The people who don't prefer vegetables were likely fed the wrong baby foods. Our mother purposely fed us the vegetable foods instead of the sweet fruit ones. It may or may not have had an effect, but I'd wager it did by not giving our brain an unconscious nostalgia boner for sugar. When I eat where a desert is available even as a kid I always demanded to eat it first (the great thing about being classed a genius is that no one likes to argue with a kid whose IQ is at least 50% higher than theirs) to get it out of the way and have the actual good tasting stuff last - which is always the actual meal vegetables or not, though vegetables are a bonus. I can't stand much sweet stuff either. I drink cola constantly, but it's the ONLY exception (something in my brain is entirely obsessed with it - most things I get tired of easily when having it frequently, but not cola and at this point never cola I would wager). Everything else falls under a very small sugar limit. Jake Halford No True Scotsman fallacy used for chocolate? That's a new one, I must say. Chocolate is (usually) good (hollow chocolates and white "chocolate" usually being exceptions), but never better than an actual vegetable filled meal. Though I have to say, ironically, I don't much care for salads. ONLY fruits and vegetables is boring. Their generally limited flavoring should enhance others, not be the focus of a meal. Unless it's broccoli. Broccoli all day every day is acceptable.
Jake Halford I've always hated chocolate. Milk chocolate, Hot chocolate, chocolate strawberries, Hershey chocolate, peppermint/mint chocolate, M&Ms, Butterfingers, name it. Mind blown? Okay I once used to like Hot chocolate, (:P) but now that's 6 years ago...
Test is getting lower and lower in western males. It's the biggest and most problematic thing we are facing right now and it will get worse in the future. The fact that no one is talking about make it even more dangerous.
+Dan Gro I know what you mean brother I had low testosterone since middle school due to over consumption of porn and masturbating 3-5 times a day for almost a decade can lower testosterone over a period of time so no fap, lifting, supplements all are getting my test back up and honestly it's the over consumption of porn which desensitized androgen/testosterone receptors in the brain so your body can't utilize it therefore making it low I believe it's due to pornography but others might differ I just know that's what my problem is
+Adam Volf its been a while but id just like to point out its not the title its the question people tend to ask most on google, perhaps it needed some quotations
Why do people think the mustache is a part of the goatee? A goatee is hair you grow on the chin, a mustache is grown above the mouth over the nose. A simple "goatee" looks exactly like what my character in my profile picture has.
I'll tell you why :it's an all or nothing deal. If you want a goatee, acquire a moustache. Goatee without a moustache is like a sandwich without filling - you can do it, but you should probably know we're judging you...
Vroxzz Roxz Maybe in warmer climates that would be the case. Mustaches are just annoying during the winter, no matter what form your beard takes. I'd much rather not have icicles forming about my upper lip from nose condensation. Normally I'd have a mustache, but never in the winter. One day experiencing that was one day too many. I shaved it the moment I got home after that and now always routinely remove it during winter months.
I took, minoxidil, and it helped me grow it, I mean I didn't get a super think alpha beard, but I did notice a huge difference with after and before, could you talk about that? I mean I've done my research about how it grows stimulating blood flow and it is related to heart issues, but I've come to trust Scishow resources a lot, and it would be great to see your insights on it.
Probably works the same way products like "Keeps" do, they just keep the hair growing instead of not. Hair loss comes from when the existing hairs just stop growing and fall out.
I am a 20 year old male and I barely arm hair and not that much leg hair. My facial hair is almost non existent. I do make up for with hair on... other parts
My advice is: Shave everyday for about 2 weeks and after the shave massage 5 minutes with coconut oil. Than after 2 weeks leave the razor and a lots of patience! For about two or three months you will have full beard. That's how i grew beard after two months im 17 years old.
KIds, shaving will make your whiskers grow. I started shaving at 14, before I really had to. Just by shaving regularly, in only a few years the result was obvious. By my mid twenties I had to shave daily.
***** I feel sorry for you and you pathetic excuse for a beard if you can shave it that quickly. Especially since you're apparently considering it "bushy" at some point. That makes me want to cry a little.
I have been able to grow a full beard from about the time I was getting out of 6th grade and entering 7th. It was cool for a few months till your morning shave looks like day old 5 o'clock shadow by lunch time.
This was just recommended and it may be a coincident, but earlier I told someone over Facebook IM that I needed to mow my face before coming over... I was in a hurry and only shaved the 2 cheeks and throat; called it a 3/5ths compromise. If I start getting "sensitivity training" recommendations, then I'll know I'm being listened to in person. Hint: sticky tack over your cam if it is built-in.
And, thanks to Hank's personal experimenting in 2023, cancer treatments can also change you beard. The experiment was not worth going through to find out. Glad you're on the mend, Hank.
prei tek Nah. That just appears bigger, because there is less hair around it and therefore your eyes use your skin as a reference point, rather than the hair, to determine how big it is.

I hate my beard. It feels SO ANNOYING when I don't shave it every day. You can have it if I can have a second life as a girl.

Genetics

My question is :
Why do people have different body smell ? And how the smell is different in different body parts ?
What is the science behind it ,
Thanks
people like the shit out of this question i want to know the answer
The answer is:
Body odour is mainly caused by bacteria around your sweat glands.
(Atleast in Germany...)

get testosterone, and good genetics.

Shaving every couple days while you apply it helps to let the minoxidil sink more into the skin(hence my bare face on my profile pic)
Ive been doing it for about 4 months now and im very happy with the results.
Thanks for the info. Any known side-effects? Also what about withdrawal?
Can you grow a full beard or only like in your profile picture?
I do have a question: Why is it that when I add just a single proton to an element, that element suddenly behaves vastly differently? And why doesn't adding neutrons or electrons do this as well?
Protons determine the element, Adding one and vice versa changes the element completely
***** What I'm wondering is why adding one proton changes the element.
And adding neutrons doesn't alter the charge of the nucleus, so not the same as adding a proton.
Pat MaCrotch Thank you, that makes sense (for the most part)
Why we starting to choose to eat the junk foods and why the vegetables feels disgusting from taste when eating those junkies?
Most people like vegetables. There's either something wrong with you, or the person who cooks your food.
***** It's harder to make a sprout taste nice than it is to buy chocolate. And if you say you don't like chocolate then you just haven't found the right chocolate
***** Like and eating it because it's healthy is two different things.

Fooly's Mind I think you mean under the nose. Those things over your nose are eye brows.

2. Wash your face 4x a week with any face wash or African Black Soap (daytime only)
3. Use a derma roller 2x a week (nighttime only)
4. Use minoxidil 5x a week (day and night)
5. Use Jamaican Black Castor Oil with a Beard oil and Aloe Vera gel 3x a week (day and night)
6. Use Vick’s vapor rub 2x a week (nighttime only)
7. Take Biotin, Folic acid, Vitamin A, Vitamin D3 and Zinc everyday
8. Drink a Gallon of water 3x a week
