Thanks for the videos....very informative....have a question tho...2006 Marshin 150cc atv that has been very well used...I bought new harness, coil, stator, fan, fan cover, intake, air filter, voltage regulator, ignition switch, spark plug, bottom ball joint in the front and rear brake caliper with brakes. After an issue with no spark I finally have a beautiful blue spark but still not start....and then the backfire....I am so discouraged with this quad that I really don't even want to look at it anymore...just wondering if you have any suggestions?
I put a 93 honda fourtrax 300 motor on a 99 model frame the 99 model cdi worked good on the 93 motor..i didn't think they would interchange?but it worked good..thanks good video..
I love following all you info and have used lots of stuff from up hints , now i have a new problem , i purches a Roketa ace go cat no spark it has 7 wires coming out of the stator, one connector has 3 wires ,green with red tracer, white, blue ,, it is a 6 cavity connector with only 3 wires , the other connector has blue wire , white wire , yellow wire . black with yellow tracer. ,and a green wire , this is a 6 cavity connector with 5 wires , what do I do know , Cheap and fast is best , Thank you in advance very much ,
hey Harvey got an issue with a older model yamaha moto 4 350 with the duel pickup type im getting one spark then nothing as i hit the button stator checks out source coil checks out coil good pickups good got neut light did replace the cdi with a clone one from ebay same plugs but with the org one there was not even one spark what do you think thanks
Hi, I rarely see CDI units burn up on their own.... The China stuff fails because they are not made well, I think for the hundreds of Hondas that I have worked on, only 1 was bad and I bought it that way.... Keep them away from the hot exhaust and they live almost forever.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

Hey Marien de leeuw, To be honest, I have not been able to measure the pulse sent from the pulse generator, I think one would have to use a high impedance probe and an oscilloscope and one would do that measurement while the engine is running.... Having said that, Hall effect sensors put out between 1.8 and 3.6Volts.... I hope this helps. thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!!
I have a Terminator 150cc quad. It has a GY6 motor in it. Hacked wires. I want to try this. Last night i tinkered with it and got the starter spinning. But no spark and smoke from the cdi I had. I tried to rig some wires to it but didn't know exactly where to put them. My only question after watching many of your videos on the harness you make is the first parts you order have a 5 pin ac cdi? That fits on the second order, the 4 pin dc cdi? I've a 1999 Yamaha Big Bear 350. Same issue. Rev up cuts out. I swapped the signal from the signal sensor and then it runs at upper RPMS roughly, but doesn't want to idle. Obviously a timing issue.

I have a 2012 XINYANG XUV300 UTV . Recently was driving it around and it just died . No spark ! So I replaced the Stator , pulse coil,CDI and coil and plug wire . Still now spark ! No one will work on it around here since there are no manuals or wiring diagrams . Please tell me what to do to fix this . I will be more then happy to pay for your time !!!! Neal
I dont know if you kniw this info but: Do these cdi units have any advance curve programmed in? Do they have any rev limit also? I have some on order to try on my Honda SS50 which already has mechanical advance weights and a max power at 11,000 rpm!
Good video! Do you think this will work on a 250cc? I’ve got a hammerhead 250ss twister no spark issue. So far I’ve replaced the ignition switch and stator and voltage regulator. I’m wondering if it is the ignition. I bought a cdi box for the 250 off eBay but it has 2 plugs, one with 2 pins and one with 4 pins, my ignition is a Motorio aftermarket box and it has 3 pins on the larger plug and 2 pins on the smaller plug that normally plugs into the cdi box. I ran a ground to the extra plug and tried using the stock coil and plug but still no spark. I’ve contemplated buying the $130 ignition from Motorio, but not sure if I want to spend the money.
hay ther love ur video i have 2008 zstar 250cc its the sport version but guy i got it from did a motor swap and has nt ran sence i have 140 omes from blue wire and 0.4 omes from green wire and 0.3omes from black and red wire but if i unhook green wire befor it goes in caseing to stater i have no reading at all would that be bad stater if so the only stater i can find is for 125cc not a 250cc would they be the same and my cdi has the two plugs and i cut the black and white wire at the cdi so its not hooked up
Fantastic video. I surely wish this could be done for the 2010 Brute Force 750 because the electrical system on this bike seems to be more trouble than it's worth. I just got the bike and I've suffered a battery bridging into frame freak accident and now I have to strip all the plastic off and go on a wire scavenger hunt to fix the issue. It sucks but I can't just let the machine sit there and become a permanent home for yellow jackets.😮😳😳😳🙏

Hi mate I have been watching your videos and I'm keen to make a dc setup for my 1988 yamaha 350 moto 4 as I got it cheap with wiring issues but mine has 2 pulse coils and I'm not sure which one I need to get the pulse wire activated for your dc setup I only want the bike to start and run I don't want charging or lights and all the other stuff I just want to fire it up cause it will only get used once a month for a hour or so .so I'll just get a good battery lol.whats your thoughts ?? Can I remove the stator completely and just have a single pulse wire with earth to run the dc cdi ?
hello Mr. spooner i have a few questions. maybe you can help me as i am confused on how your set up is. so the cart you have right here i have a close match its a sidewinders kart with a Honda helix clone i think they call them cf250 cn250 and cfmoto250 and hammer head calls them ss250. so what happen was i lost spark! the harness is so hacked up i don't know where to start. So my voltage reg has a 3 yellow green red black then the stater has blue and green on one plug and the outer wires are just 3 yellow and under the installation there 3 white those go to the voltage reg. now i ohm out he pick up coil and its working i was getting 11.11 according to the meter. so my question is how can i do this wile it still charges my battery as the engine is water cooled. using the same set up you have here.?
Wow, I think you could use another atv! Haha, I came across this because I been working on a gy6 scooter, and curious about the AC CDI , I think maybe I'd rather have an DC system, if I have any issues, I'm not going to change any wiring unless I have issues, I have a adjustable CDI, I wanted to get rid of the revlimit, and get a bit more timing, but not to the point of hard starting! I have a big bore kit, and a9 cam, with ported head, with the valves unshrouded on the chamber side, and an exhaust that should do well, I'm eventually going to build a stroker engine, with big bore, and big valve head, or graft in a 150cc engine, maybe a 171cc kit, I just want it to pull hills, and a respectable 0-50 time, or 5-50 mph time, I want it to be capable of cruising around 50 mph, but a peak top speed around 60 mph is plenty, well sufficient anyway, about the best the 139QMB can be is 95-96cc, without getting back really crazy, machining custom parts, modify everything, and then it may not work out, some 150"s can fit a 232cc kit, it would be nice, think a 171with a big valve ported head will do as well as a stock head 232, with a bit more compression, I have seen they use the gy6 engines on scooter, atv's, gocarts, all kind of stuff, I'm just curious if a crank from a 110 or 125 will fit the 50cc case, or even a 150 crank in a 50 case, I haven't seen enough to make any comparisons, it would be alot similar to just swap in a 150cc engine, it will require a bit of welding, I was wanting to keep it stock appearing, (engine wise!) It would be nice to upgrade to 12" wheels,. Any advise is greatly welcomed, I am new to the Chinese scooter, GY6 scene.. this is the 3rd scooter I owned, but the first one I got into! Thanks alot for sharing the info. My daughter had a Tao Tao quad and I could get it running. Even after replacing several parts on ignition system. Then I simply bought a DC CDI box and wired it up, now it purrs like a kitten. Simple fix, just a different way of looking at it.
I dont have the same wires but same bike im so fustrated im just thinking about tossing it out with the trash ive been on this dame thing for a year and i still cant get spark because of the wires being differant i cant fallow
Hypothetically harvey....a cheap cdi should be able to cause any 12 volt system to spark and run shouldn't it? I'm talking if you strip it down to bare bones,no other accessories,it will run even a 4 cylinder if you spliced the coil wire,it would just cause it to have a bunch of wasted spark and start and at least idle. I understand the ignition advance would not be optimal at any acceleration but it would cause any motor to run right?
Hey Harvey today I went outside and played with my 50cc baja and 110 taotao today its been a month and I still dont have them riding yet. I put a starter cylanoid on the baja because when I hit the button with a new battery it does nothing. But when u touch the ground the cylanoid it spins the engine over.. So I look at the safety key in the back and the black wire is hanging out of the harness where the wire goes in to where the safety switch connects to the qiring harness. So I sprayed a little fuel in the carb and bam started up but flew wide open until the bike ran out of gas. Even trying to choke it. Had gas tank hooked up too. Have no idea why it did that but now I'm stuck again. And what would happen if u put the 2 geound wires on the wrong side and the main power on the wrong side mix them up on the cylanoid? Would it not turn over or do anything could that safety switch having a wire unplugged from the actual plug cause that? Also the taotao 110 just quit running over night a month ago I changed a few parts and now I'm geyting spark jumping it from the positive and negative batt. Cables because both these quads have good harnesses I dont want to hack them because they are for my kids after I break them in. But is it possible I got a bad cdi used? I plugged the old one up no spark at all. Then the new one. Now there's a spark every 20 or 30 sec but still has crazy spark with the jump box hooked to the starter?? So I jumped it from the starter it started right up no choke then popped and banged and ahut right off when I turned the battery box off. Sounded like a bomb but I did it again still started but won't stay running still big bang. I ordered a racing cdi its on the way now I no yhe kill switch works and I bought a new key for it. I have to get these running so I can ride them they both start but won't stay running can u plz help me ive watched your videos over and over checked all the grounds and considwring it just quit over night with no explanation I would think I got a defective cdi and it makes the most sense it has suck a week spark ever now and then its like hooking 12v to the starter puts to much spark to it and its not in correct timing. But thats why I'm asking you.. Please I'm getting so agrivated I would do anything to ride these two just don't want to chop up the harnesses. Thanks again respond when you can plz.

Harvey Spooner what about the no start situation put a new carb on fires up and runs now but it is a pz16 with choke on the side not on handle bars like the original baja 50 has. But it works under its on fuel now and will stay running but like crap carbs have different size jets.. And they are not able to be switched around. I'm trying my beat to tune it. Will it work have u ever did that before? And I eant it to start with the button but it doesnt do anything at all when u try to start it with the start button but you can jump it from cylanoid and it runs now at least runs. Sry for all the questions just need help thanks Harvey hopefully u will be free soon to answwr questions. New cdi is on the way for the 110. Hooe that coukd cause a terrible spark even though it's new it was only 5 bucks but from the USA. Yhanks again

This is good if your bike is a/c firing and you break down on the road, you can just put a d/c firing cdi without having to change the stator because of the exciter coil having gone bad.😮
Hey dude me and my dad watch you all the time good content and actually get to the point and simple fixes. I'm at a loss I've tried everything that I know of. Ive replace the CDI box everything like that currently has to be bumped to start and has spark on and off now it's dead 110%, even my dad's had a crack at it he knows what he doing as so do u. Small engines etc is what he does for a living we don't see an apparent problem the wires have been tapped into for different sources that I don't know (previous owner) I want the bike back to mint eventually. Running for the time being is what I'm after. Even if u would explain to me what are what? And such as google dont show much and I'm color blind lol I want minimal wires needed to run now I got a new wiring harness on order.

So my voltage reg has a 3 yellow green red black then the stater has blue and green on one plug and the outer wires are just 3 yellow and under the installation there 3 white those go to the voltage reg. now i ohm out he pick up coil and its working i was getting 11.11 according to the meter. so my question is how can i do this wile it still charges my battery as the engine is water cooled. using the same set up you have here.?

Haha, I came across this because I been working on a gy6 scooter, and curious about the AC CDI , I think maybe I'd rather have an DC system, if I have any issues, I'm not going to change any wiring unless I have issues, I have a adjustable CDI, I wanted to get rid of the revlimit, and get a bit more timing, but not to the point of hard starting! I have a big bore kit, and a9 cam, with ported head, with the valves unshrouded on the chamber side, and an exhaust that should do well, I'm eventually going to build a stroker engine, with big bore, and big valve head, or graft in a 150cc engine, maybe a 171cc kit, I just want it to pull hills, and a respectable 0-50 time, or 5-50 mph time, I want it to be capable of cruising around 50 mph, but a peak top speed around 60 mph is plenty, well sufficient anyway, about the best the 139QMB can be is 95-96cc, without getting back really crazy, machining custom parts, modify everything, and then it may not work out, some 150"s can fit a 232cc kit, it would be nice, think a 171with a big valve ported head will do as well as a stock head 232, with a bit more compression, I have seen they use the gy6 engines on scooter, atv's, gocarts, all kind of stuff, I'm just curious if a crank from a 110 or 125 will fit the 50cc case, or even a 150 crank in a 50 case, I haven't seen enough to make any comparisons, it would be alot similar to just swap in a 150cc engine, it will require a bit of welding, I was wanting to keep it stock appearing, (engine wise!) It would be nice to upgrade to 12" wheels,. Any advise is greatly welcomed, I am new to the Chinese scooter, GY6 scene.. this is the 3rd scooter I owned, but the first one I got into! Thanks alot for sharing the info. My daughter had a Tao Tao quad and I could get it running. Even after replacing several parts on ignition system. Then I simply bought a DC CDI box and wired it up, now it purrs like a kitten. Simple fix, just a different way of looking at it.
I dont have the same wires but same bike im so fustrated im just thinking about tossing it out with the trash ive been on this dame thing for a year and i still cant get spark because of the wires being differant i cant fallow

Hypothetically harvey....a cheap cdi should be able to cause any 12 volt system to spark and run shouldn't it? I'm talking if you strip it down to bare bones,no other accessories,it will run even a 4 cylinder if you spliced the coil wire,it would just cause it to have a bunch of wasted spark and start and at least idle. I understand the ignition advance would not be optimal at any acceleration but it would cause any motor to run right?

Hey Harvey today I went outside and played with my 50cc baja and 110 taotao today its been a month and I still dont have them riding yet. I put a starter cylanoid on the baja because when I hit the button with a new battery it does nothing. But when u touch the ground the cylanoid it spins the engine over.. So I look at the safety key in the back and the black wire is hanging out of the harness where the wire goes in to where the safety switch connects to the qiring harness. So I sprayed a little fuel in the carb and bam started up but flew wide open until the bike ran out of gas. Even trying to choke it. Had gas tank hooked up too. Have no idea why it did that but now I'm stuck again. And what would happen if u put the 2 geound wires on the wrong side and the main power on the wrong side mix them up on the cylanoid? Would it not turn over or do anything could that safety switch having a wire unplugged from the actual plug cause that? Also the taotao 110 just quit running over night a month ago I changed a few parts and now I'm geyting spark jumping it from the positive and negative batt. Cables because both these quads have good harnesses I dont want to hack them because they are for my kids after I break them in. But is it possible I got a bad cdi used? I plugged the old one up no spark at all. Then the new one. Now there's a spark every 20 or 30 sec but still has crazy spark with the jump box hooked to the starter?? So I jumped it from the starter it started right up no choke then popped and banged and ahut right off when I turned the battery box off. Sounded like a bomb but I did it again still started but won't stay running still big bang. I ordered a racing cdi its on the way now I no yhe kill switch works and I bought a new key for it. I have to get these running so I can ride them they both start but won't stay running can u plz help me ive watched your videos over and over checked all the grounds and considwring it just quit over night with no explanation I would think I got a defective cdi and it makes the most sense it has suck a week spark ever now and then its like hooking 12v to the starter puts to much spark to it and its not in correct timing. But thats why I'm asking you.. Please I'm getting so agrivated I would do anything to ride these two just don't want to chop up the harnesses. Thanks again respond when you can plz.

Harvey Spooner what about the no start situation put a new carb on fires up and runs now but it is a pz16 with choke on the side not on handle bars like the original baja 50 has. But it works under its on fuel now and will stay running but like crap carbs have different size jets.. And they are not able to be switched around. I'm trying my beat to tune it. Will it work have u ever did that before? And I eant it to start with the button but it doesnt do anything at all when u try to start it with the start button but you can jump it from cylanoid and it runs now at least runs. Sry for all the questions just need help thanks Harvey hopefully u will be free soon to answwr questions. New cdi is on the way for the 110. Hooe that coukd cause a terrible spark even though it's new it was only 5 bucks but from the USA. Yhanks again

This is good if your bike is a/c firing and you break down on the road, you can just put a d/c firing cdi without having to change the stator because of the exciter coil having gone bad.😮
Hey dude me and my dad watch you all the time good content and actually get to the point and simple fixes. I'm at a loss I've tried everything that I know of. Ive replace the CDI box everything like that currently has to be bumped to start and has spark on and off now it's dead 110%, even my dad's had a crack at it he knows what he doing as so do u. Small engines etc is what he does for a living we don't see an apparent problem the wires have been tapped into for different sources that I don't know (previous owner) I want the bike back to mint eventually. Running for the time being is what I'm after. Even if u would explain to me what are what? And such as google dont show much and I'm color blind lol I want minimal wires needed to run now I got a new wiring harness on order.

I think the one in the kit is not a 4 pin.....and the one he said get is.
The one he said NOT to use is an AC box. He is using the DC box. These are my thoughts on it anyway.
