The woman at the rental car counter should have called someone for him... airport police to have him removed.
That's me. Once I've explained something to you several times, and you're still not moving, one of two things happens. 1) I proceed to ignore you, and motion for the next person in line to come to the counter so I can help them. 2) I call my manager, the police or security, depending on which is appropriate. I do not suffer fools. Especially when those fools are standing in the way of other fools trying to do their business and get on with their lives.
The last story? Being able to help someone, regardless of whether you work in a place or not is a good feeling. I am short (5ft 4in, 66 years old), use a walking stick because of mobility problems, but the number of people that help if I need it, hold doors for me etc, restores my faith in human nature. There is one little girl, I think around 10 years old, that comes into a local store I shop at, takes hold of my shopping cart, helps me find what I need, goes off to find staff if there is something either of us can't reach. She is usually in the store with her dad (about 6ft 2in tall, 200lbs), and if he is available, she asks HIM to lift her up to get things I can't reach. I can only think Kudos to her parents that have brought up such a wonderful person. I asked her dad if I could organise a birthday party for her in about a month, to which he agreed. I am SO looking forward to it, because I have a couple of suprises planned for her that her mum and dad and I have come up with.
What part of "I don't work here" do you not understand!?
It's a parent's job to embarrass your children.
First one:
I would have told the rude customer that his problems were his fault and if he did not let me do my REAL job, I would get him banned from renting cars from the only rental car company operating at this airport.
Ignorant customer, "How am I supposed to check in and catch my flight?" Me, "I really don't know, not my job, your job. Now, please move along so I can do my job." IC, "But I need to catch that flight now!" Me, "I just rent cars, and they don't fly."

Late May 2019, returning from overseas to LAX, horribly long Customs line. Finally get to the window, get my slip that lets me go on my way and I say< "Dobby has received the gift of a receipt. Dobby is free!!" I saw the guy in the Customs booth chuckle over that, so I appreciate the "Dobby is free" story.
Dobby you are my hero.
One of my kids would laugh the other would sink into the ground at that nerdyness.
Airport story - Ohhooo, I would have relished the opportunity to talk to that guy's boss and tell him he has a moron on his payroll.
I would have announced myself as working at the rental place, how could I help? When the boss asks why I am holding the phone, I would explain that his employee just handed it to me, the person working at the car rental desk, because he had missed his plane. I would then let the boss sort it out with his employee, which I expect would happen in short order.
watch out : Dobby is free to pester anyone ignorant enough that is as bad/worse as the ex-master
and let the ignorant squeal like a mandragora root pulled from the earth ...

the last story is incredibly impressive especially because how Walmart always rearrange is there craps where you can't find a damn thing

I also liked the airport OP for telling the customer's boss over the phone what an ass his employee was.
Finally, it was good to hear a wholesome story about a non-Karen customer to finish with
I’ve gotten hooked on r/ videos in recent days, and there are a few that I enjoy, but yours are far and away the best; your folksy way of reading,and the way you really convey the nuance of the text in tone of voice and cadence really make the stories come alive - like hearing stories from a favourite uncle!

It boggles my mind how some "customers" think if they repeat the same issue over and over again, they will get a different answer other than the one they just got 5 times in a row. When I was working at a Kroger in Houston, TX, it was (and as far as I know, still is) illegal to sell alcohol before Noon on a Sunday (except at a bar, apparently?). I'd always get a few people in the morning that were from out of state and didn't know the law. Most of them were frustrated, but understanding. But this one chick was just dumber than a post, not especially rude, thankfully, but incredibly dumb. And I'm not even sure she was old enough anyway. She come through my line with a 6-pack of some frou-frou beer at like 10:30am or something. I say, "I'm sorry. I can't legally sell alcohol before noon on Sunday. But I can hold it for you till then if you wanna come back." Her: "No. I need it now." " *shrug* Don't know what to tell you. I can't sell it. And no one else can, either."
Yep! FYI that law still exist today! Lol
Airport story: the "circle of 'unreasoning'" . . . after 1st round, it was time to get airport security involved.
I live in alaska so it’s pretty neat to hear stories from here.

It's a Harry Potter reference. A house elf/slave is freed if his humans give him a piece of clothing. Dobby the house elf receives a sock and says, "Dobby is free!" It's a favorite scene for many readers.

I remember back in the 70s when watching TV that when ever someone had a flight to catch their line was ‘My flight leaves in an hour’. Always thought it was strange that all flights left in an hour.
