On that first story, I would originally have been going to throw the book at him, humiliate and fire him but not after he maned up to it. Do you realize how many people would try to bluster or make excuses? He apologized and offered to pay for everything. While his behavior was not ok, manning up and doing the right thing is rare these days and earned him back a great deal of the respect he lost. I would probably have done exactly what they did here because he owned up.

I stepped back, told him to have a seat with the rest and walked out. When I came back, he realized the mistake. No, didn't send him out. Turned out to be a good worker. Why? Because he apologized. The energy company called around the same time as a scammer faking being that energy company was harassing us. (We know one was a scammer because they threatened to shut down power in 30 minutes if we didn't pay them Right then... Something against real power company's policy/ what the real company's website warned about.) Well we told the boss about it, and they found out that the card had expired and the real company was trying to let us know we were a month over due. The boss called and explained the situation to the real company and they understood. I'm pretty sure that I actually told one of the real company's people how shameful they were and hung up. I'd gone back to work at a factory, but worked weekends as a bouncer at a strip club. More than once I've had guys question my age, but one became quite adamant about it when I asked him to leave for grabbing at the dancers. Now I always assume fools like this are just trying to pick a fight, after all, alcohol makes everybody 10' tall, and bullet proof. But I still try to talk them out, one of the other bouncers came over, and told him I was a full grown man, and a fully bonded security specialist in bouncing idiots out the D** door. That was it, no more Mr nice Guy, he took a swing, and got a harsh lesson in Army hand to hand combat training. He became a regular, and was always willing to back our play when trouble started.

Second story - In most settings like this, a FM is not allowed to take tips earned from an employee weather they realized they earned it or not. In most places I worked, this practice is illegal and could be considered theft. You’re a FM with possibly a salaried income so you know you’re getting the same income no matter your work situation, she is an employee living from check to check at below minimum wage because Murica says it’s the common practice in a restaurant setting. That tip is the difference for her being able to afford to get to work or not, even having food on the table or not (these are big issues depending how big of a family she could have) and could break her if she doesn’t have a safety net to support her at home.

Not true. They actually went to school to learn about changing said companies. Because that's when a lot of thinks were changing. Computers, cell phones etc etc.
So yeah, things would run better if you were using a computer instead of a 3 ring binder.
Yeah it's easier to get ahold of your delivery driver when they have a cell phone.
I guess using a map is better than a GPS.

@@ralphtrynor9719 The problem is that they did not learn all they needed in school (bachelor's degree) to become in charge of product design. The company hired Phds for that work. They were hired to write code. But they did not know the internals of how the operating systems they were working actually worked. Nor the products they wanted to be in charge of redesigning. My company produced tower pcs, laptops, unix servers, mainframes but never cell phones. They produced operating systems for those computers. They produced other products for those platforms . They were coming straight out of college knowing one or two computer languages only and the only type of computer they knew about was the ones owned by their university for students to use and practice running programs on, not my company's computers. They did not know the machines they had to work with in my company at all. Their expectations of being basically research fellows with a bachelors degree were unrealistic. Sure Bill Gates did it with no degrees but his MS-DOS was actually not designed nor written by him. It was designed and written by some guy who was induced to sell the rights to Gates who remarketed it. Did you ever notice how MS hardware never made it big except for their gaming systems? Ah, yes, I remember well the days of the blue screen of death on pcs running Windows OS. A big no-no in design, to have a problem and crash the whole operating system.

The moral of the last story: 1)If you are a legit business, leave a voicemail message so the person you are calling can call you back if they don't answer. 2) If you're going to answer, don't automatically assume "scammer" or "telemarketer" just because you don't recognize the number. If you listen for 10 seconds, you'll *know* whether they are a scammer or telemarketer, and you won't make an ass of yourself. This is especially true if one of your loved ones has a medical alarm. Doing what this person did, could potentially kill someone you care about, because you wasted time that could've been spent calling an ambulance.

Long ago and far away, I was filling out paperwork to work at the in house cafe at the Bon Marche.... that last part may be misspelled. Sounds like mar'-shay. It's a food service position, and I have a set of papers 1" thick to fill out. I'm 17 at the time, and have never to this day had to fill out so many papers to get hired ANYWHERE else... and this is over 30 years ago, and not including aptitude testing, which wasn't a thing back then. A guy I've never seen comes through the room I'm in to pass through to somewhere else, and I commented, "Sure is a lot of paperwork," with a bemused smile. He glances at me without stopping or speaking. I finally finish, and go home.
Couple of hours later, a woman I don't know calls me up and informs me that they won't be needing me. I ask why, and she refuses to tell me "over the phone." I check the time. "How long will you be there today?" She tells me, and I have JUST enough time to catch one of the local buses and arrive before she goes. "Okay," I replied, hung up and ran off to catch it.
THIS time I'm not in my "I Want To Be Hired!" best, but in casual "I Fit In" style of tidy dove-gray jeans that fit (but weren't painted on), darker gray tank under a white with pink pattern big shirt, with clean tennis shoes. Fans of 80's movies will know the style well enough. I manage to get there before she leaves, and I'm quiet and respectful in asking why she let me go before I even worked, and she tells me it's because of my comment on the paperwork. I give her a disbelieving look, and she decides since I was =so= prompt to turn up after she called me, that she'll give me a chance.
One month later, working split shifts (which I've never agreed to work again), and while the man who hired me is on vacation, she terminates me again, because she still doesn't feel I'm a good fit for them. I hadn't really been enjoying the work, so I shrugged and moved on. Having been just under a month of working there, I didn't even bother putting it on my work history, not even once.
Feel free to use this, if you like.

In Australia tipping is fairly common but not really expected or essential. We happily have good wages. Esp in licensed places. I only ever worked in one restaurant where the manager openly stole our tips. I quit immediately. It's not a good idea to rip off your front of house staff. It certainly won't motivate staff loyalty.

I don't owe a dime for college, I know this because when I graduate I made sure to settle any debts I may have had out with the school before leaving and I have all the paperwork to prove I didn't owe anything. Yet I still get calls from both scammers and the real deal, I explained I am debt free with paperwork to prove it and there's no reason to pursue this any further. Still love the scammers saying I have outstanding fee of $150 for graduation, but my college doesn't and never has had a graduation fee. Still, I called the administration office at the college and checked to see if I really had outstanding loans and fees to pay. I did not, but it's still fun to play along with it and eventually laugh at them for trying.

The third one could be cut easy if the called for informations that only they could have provided. That is how things normaly work. If they are the real deal they can identify the called with only a few specific safe answers and yeah. Same goes the other way as well. Such companies legitimate their customer first and then do the business. Scammers should not have access to some of the deeper personal questions/answers.

  • @melkiorwiseman5234

One tip which stops most telemarketers and scammers is to get an answering machine and let it screen your calls. Their dialling machine waits for the ring tone to stop and for someone to say "hello" before transferring the call to a person, but if an answering machine message starts up, the dialling machine will usually hang up the call automatically. The telemarketer would still have to pay for the call since the call was answered, unless they're on some kind of flat price plan.
If you're absolutely certain that you'll never get a legitimate caller using such a machine, you can try adding the universal "number unobtainable / no such number" signal at the start of your answering machine recording. It should work even if it's mixed in with your voice. The dialling machines can "hear" that tone and automatically delete your number from their dialling list since the telemarketers don't want to waste time calling non-existent numbers.

    • @melkiorwiseman5234
      @melkiorwiseman5234 4 года назад +1

@@theresahall8206 Try this: Instead of answering with "hello?" instead answer with "This is (your first name), who's calling, please?" (if you don't know the caller ID). If they're using an auto-dialler, it may mistake your long greeting for an answering service and hang up. In general, the longer your greeting is, the more likely it is to be mistaken for an answering machine by the auto-dialler.
My usual method of dealing with anyone who gets through that is to simply hang up without even talking to them, since you can usually tell that it's a telemarketer just from the way the call goes from total silence to the person speaking with more talking in the background.
