Oh my god this is so spot on. I get so much rage when I saw comments saying “shun shouldn’t be looking for a bf, he should be in therapy” like excuse me but not everyone has the luxury to do that and having personal issues doesn’t mean you don’t have the right to find love because if that’s the case then more than half of the population shouldn’t be in a relationship because we all have our own issues.
Yeah and like therapy takes time, years in some cases, and you can’t exactly put your whole (social) life on pause until you’ve solved your issues. Nor should you!
The picnic dynamic was very entertaining and I dont know how much is the PDs premeditation vs pure luck but the shot of the trio in the gazebo or whatever with the new guy running around happy as a clam in the back of the frame is a shot BL dreams are made of 😂
This was such a good analysis! I love it! The picnic was amazing! Shun’s denial was crazy and I think Dai was actually a genius because 1. He showed Shun he could bag any guy he wanted and 2. Made Shun lose his mind with jealousy. It’s masterful.
Thank you for being so understandable about shun's reasoning throughout the show, it was so frustrating to see people saying that he shouldn´t have gone to the show and instead he needs therapy, like yes ofc he does but that doesnt mean he has to be isolated from forming relationships till he reaches whatever standard people have. You said it perfectly, the whole "you can't find love if you don't love yourself first" is bs cause hurt people specially deserve to feel loved and appreciated
Honestly, if you watch DaiShun's vlogs, it's scary to see how two people are so perfect for each other. It's not like aww so romantic type of thing, it's odd how these two people who are polar opposites found each other in the most bizarre circumstances. In this year that they've spent together, it's clear that they've learned to communicate perfectly. They know how to read each other's minds and how to treat each other. They exude love and care for each other. I'm very happy for Shun, for obvious reasons, because now he seems much happier next to a person who loves and supports him, and also that Dai's entire family knows Shun, they love him and accept him.
I really loved what you said about Shun and Dai. I personally think it was a great decision for Shun to go on the show. I think it was a very meaningful experience for him in which he learned a lot, and the same goes for Dai. And whatever happens in the future, right now they seem very happy together. I do watch Dai and Shun's vlogs, but I think they're actually pretty innocent? Lots of kissing and cuddling sure, but nothing too racy in my opinion. You may like their vlog titled 'How we think about things #talk' (uploaded on November 12th). They answer some questions here (with rain ASMR in the background) and they get pretty deep with some of their answers, like how their personalities were presented on the show versus how they are now. By the way, Shun is the one who edits the vlogs, and Dai subtitles them (he's fluent in English). I like how their vlogs are really their own thing.
26:05 I feel like they're just giving us a highlight reel of their time on the show. So we only see the emotionally charged moments instead of letting everything build up over time.
I understand everything you said about Shun, when the show aired many people were really cruel to him, especially the international public, that surprised me because I thought mental health was seen in a better way in other places outside of Japan.
In the watch party, Kazuto and Alan mentioned that during the first sleepover date, they had only known each other for 3-4 days. And because Kazuto mentioned how he’d prefer sitting back and watching people before jumping ahead with his feelings, I can only imagine how he felt with Alan. Alan was really mature for taking a step back once he realized this and letting Kazuto develop his feelings for him rather than continuing to constantly pursue him.
I relate so much to shun when you start talking about how “weird” it is that he’s taking everything so seriously because that’s how it is with ME. I “date” for marriage. If I like someone potentially but don’t see it lasting long term I won’t even give it a shot cause that’s “a waste” for me. If I can’t see myself being with this person for the rest of my life then why even waste all that energy. I 100% can see myself being shun on this show. Edit: I’m not religious and don’t even see myself as someone who “abstains” from sex but I truly see it as such a waste of time, energy, etc. to put so much effort in something that I don’t see long term
The only other dating show I've watched anytime recently is HisMan 2 and it's such an interesting compare and contrast with this one. Dai and Shun would not have happened on His Man and I wonder what would have happened with people like Minsung, Dabit, Seonwoo if given more than just a week. At the same time, I find myself missing all the little moments you get on a show like His Man 2, which feels closer to the intense and silly ways we experience crushes IRL ("You wouldn't believe what just happened, we were washing dishes together and..."). But yeah, devoured your HM2 commentary and enjoying The Boyfriend commentary just as much.
i personally think the show is great, sure the editing isnt showing us everything and we dont have time. i like the concept and the guys made a great season. the show and season was really good for me. (same with season 1 of his man) i even liked it more then season 3 tbh.
there is still happening a lot with dai and shun and i dont wanna spoil, but i still think the comments about shun and their realitionship is too much. on reddid were so many posts hating on him and their realitionship, calling him emotional abusive, toxic ect. yes, he is a ittle frustraiting on the show, but there is a reason where that is coming from, and dai figures his way to deal with shun. but youre going to see that in the future, i personally love watching their vloges. im usually not a vlog watcher, but if i follow a couple in a show, and im gonna get invested, im gonna watch their vlogs and stuff. its so fun and cute. like with daishuns and the couple from season 2.
I really hope you'll do a recap of the reuinion show!! 🙏 There are a lot of misconceptions about Shun and Dai, but the reunion show gives a lot of new insight into who Shun and Dai really are. For instance, Dai is actually NOT the outgoing extrovert, that he acts like alot of the time, and that's one of the reasons why Shun was unsure of him, because it felt like an act - so he wasn't sure if he could trust him being real. So there's a lot more to both of them, that what the show gives us. YT won't allow me to share the link, but you can find on Netflix Japan, under the Live bar. 🤩
Oh also I am curious to know if you actually ever see any sort of spark from Kazuto towards anyone in the show because I never felt anything. Like between Dai and Shun you could practically feel the sizzle from the start. I actually think the most Kazuto was sort of flirty was with Dai in the clurb. 😅
That's right. Kazuto actually picked Dai in the first vote, and chose Shun when he was working as a coffee truck. And recently, he left a comment on Dai's Instagram, "I miss Dai and shun (to be exact, Dai and shun are lacking)." Perhaps Kazuto was fond of them in tbf😊
I like your nuanced takes on the situation and am enjoying this for the most part, but it kinda bothers me that one of you is constantly trying to finish the other person’s sentences, even when it’s obvious what he’s going to say. Dude, let him speak 😅
31:55 I guess you missed the tweets on Kazuto having done more than just shower in front of a camera. Pretty safe to say he's not subscribed to American puritanism.
Not my dumb ass comment making it to this episode 🫣. Definitely missed the mark with this one. Also maybe it can open up a discussion about trauma exploitation like my anger was more with the fact that, yes its great character development to have people talk about their traumatic past but it feels icky to see it on screen. Im pretty sure the girlies aren’t paid for that and coming from a ‘Terrace house background’ im always hyper suspicious of reality tv shows where stuff like this can have life or death consequences on peoples life.
we’ll be on vacation next week so ep 7-8 will be on the 5th! 🎁

Genesi said that he texted taeheon "SOS" during the picnic cause it was a mess and it's my favourite thing ever 😭😭
Wait fr??? Was that included in the show cause lmfaooo
@@sparkyboomboomboi7051It wasn’t but he said it in an interview 🤣🤣🤣

Netflix has released short videos of deleted scenes, and it makes you realize how much we missed. The show has so much great unaired material.
In fact, when the picnic was in chaos of chaos, I saw an interview that Gensei texted Taeheon, "Save me." 🤣 SOS call
I reall yhope y'all gonna react to the reunion too when you've finished the show :)
That picnic was iconic 😂
Finally someone is talking about people overanalyzing Shun's mental health.
Oh yesss like the other commenter said , y’all gotta watch the reunion too!!! Please lol

When I watched this show I didn’t initially think I’d like Usak as much as I ended up liking him. He was such a cutie!! 🥰
The iconic picnic 😂

yes, I saw an interview that when Dai overused 'kawaii' to otter, Shun thought, 'This man, the service spirit doesn't have to be strong.'🤣🤣🤣
Prepare your hearts for episode 7 and 8 😊
Can't wait for ep 8 my favorite ep of The Boyfriend, the famous kiss of daishun and the tension i want to know your reaction and opinion
Thanks
