  • How to paint cement rendered walls with a roller. One of the main things is to choose the right nap length for the type of walls you are painting. Cement rendered walls can range from a very fine finish to a very coarse finish.

    I normally masonry big brush first as it gets the holes better , and then roll over then , makes it look like no holes at all ❤

    Hi Mr. Howtopaintinfo! I'm more than half way through painting my whole house inside and out. I've been watching your videos for years and always turn to you for advice. You are by far the best on RUclips for painting advice, you have saved me heaps, thanks! The best advice was using a 100mm wall brush for cutting in! Thanks from Melbourne, Vic. Are you from SA?

      It's good to hear that you have found my videos helpful and that you think they are the best on youtube. Make sure you tell everyone about my channel, lol, and yes I'm in SA.

    I'm about to have a go at using a rendertex Haymes product straight onto brick with flush mortar - it's a new house. Similar technique I'd say. I'm looking forward to it actually. I'm after a bagged look. Great vid!

      Good luck with it, I have use acratex before and done a bagged finish and it turned out fine.

    Do I need to primer a cement surface or will I just need more coats? This is for a cement garage footing. Thanks for the video!

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  2 года назад

      You can prime or just thin down the top coat a little so it soaks in. Just make sure you are using a self priming exterior acrylic, if not then you will need to prime.

    Hey bud, great clip. I've got a roughcast finish interior wall. Kind of looks like very rough sandpaper. Or literally like someone painted over sand/ small pebbles. Go the same way as you have done here. Cheers from Perth👍

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  2 года назад

      Yes you can do it the same as here, the rougher the texture the longer the roller sleeve nap needs to be.

I've used painters in the past when I'm too busy to do it myself and have had my fair share of sub standard work. If you want to do it right sometimes you have to do it yourself.

    Would you consider using an airless spray gun to increase the amount of paint delivered on the wall followed by a pass with a roller or large brush? Thanks

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  2 года назад

      I'm glad you said followed by a roller or brush as just spraying wouldn't work. The issue with spraying is all the masking time.

    Any advice on what paint to use with newly applied cement render? Can just go ahead with an exterior paint or need to seal it with something?

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  4 года назад +3

      Most exterior acrylics are fine to use without a primer, just make sure you read instructions on paint can and also thin the first coat about 10%.

    Hi when after applying a white second coat on a hot day in Portugal. After drying it still looks like lots of misses ( but they aren’t) can’t be really ! !
    The wall is generally in good condition clean and hasn’t been painted for app 7yrs I’m told !so Q .
    Is it lack of paint thickness / coats still ,or could it be the render has been applied badly / in different directions . Thanks every1 👏✌️

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  4 года назад

      That's the thing with rendered walls, you need to force paint into all the small pin holes in the render. There is a chance the light is just playing tricks on you.

    I got my house done recently it’s smooth finish but if I touch the fender the sand comes off shouod I give a light sand first before painting !? Is there a certain type of paint thick layer so the render doesn’t chip off ?

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  3 года назад

      The render shouldn't come off that easily, it should be a hard finish. If it is coming off easily it might be best if you use a sealer / binder first to help strength up the surface. With new render there will always be a little loose stuff on the surface which you could broom off first, hope that helps.

    How long do I need to wait for the tendered wall to dry before painting

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  7 месяцев назад

      Between coats, about 2 hours but could take longer.
      Just check to see if render is dry, wet areas should stand out, and you can always feel if render is damp or not.

    hello. what is the fix for bubbling in cement rendered walls (interior) caused by moisture?

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  Год назад +1

      If the bubbles are drummy then you will need to remove them. It will depend on how deep the hole left behind is to what filler you can use. If they are more then 5mm deep you should be able to get cement render to stick. If its only a shallow hole then base coat or even an acrylic render could be used, just try to stipple the filler to leave a similar texture to the rest of the wall.

    • @lowkeyconvert8971
      @lowkeyconvert8971 Год назад

      @@howtopaintinfo i'm afraid i wasn't clear. the bubbling is in the paint (some of the bubbles have burst too so it's exposing the cement render underneath) over the cement render and not in the cement render itself.

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  Год назад +1

      All you can do is scrape the bubbles off the best you can, then touch up those areas and if need repaint wall.

    • @lowkeyconvert8971
      @lowkeyconvert8971 Год назад

      @@howtopaintinfo thanks. when you say "touch up", would that be with filler before repainting?

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  Год назад +1

      If needed you can fill the area where the bubbles are but you don't want to leave a smooth patch on a rendered wall so be careful when filling or touch up with paint first and see how it looks before you start filling.
