Aziz Dheri is an ancient Gandharan site dating back from 2nd to 7th century AD. 12 km from Gohati Town on Mardan-Swabi road this site is well preserved and is still in process of excavation. During the excavations many artifacts such as coins, beads, statues , utensils, toys etc. were discovered from the site. Some items found here showed trade links of dwellers of Aziz Dheri with Rome and Greek in the past. The site consists of a large stupa surrounded by votive stupas , monasteries, residential quarters and meditation halls. Most of these structures are made with white marble that give it a fascinating look and it is the only Buddhist site made with marble.
The ancient Aziz Dheri town was on a very large area but 110 kanals are dug till now.
