Hey everyone! Shelbz here talking about some things I want to talk about. I just wanted to let you know that these Sofia the first redesigns were just for fun, due to watching the show again.(but I will totally do a part two if you want it) but 1. I did not know there were 4 seasons of Sofia . I stopped watching it after getting really into erm… mlp.., so I don’t know anything about the lore ( so sorry for the amber roast) 😅. One thing I know from shows characters can improve! So I’ll be nicer to Amber.I also love all the critics it helps me know what i can improve firvthe next vid! 2. Hey guys , please do not take this video so seriously, I made this video in a fun way due to not seeing this show in forever. I don’t know anything about the Sofia the first lore I am not a super fan. I also know Amber is improving but from what I’ve seen in her so far in the story that is how I see Amber. My opinion will change once I watch more seasons.
You're so real for not knowing any of the lore, I've only watched Sofia the First in like a movie on DVD but I love the concept so much (I'm a sucker for royalty universes :)) so I lowkey want to redesign them too but have also been feeling like I need to know the lore 😭 but this is really encouraging!!! I love that you're redesigning them anyway and this is a really cool and cute video :D
Amber actually grows quite a bit during the show and is proven through multiple episodes that she cares about her kingdom and the kingdoms around her. Also all the characters are constantly very dressed up (although I do agree that her base dress design doesn’t fit, personally I prefer the other dresses we see her in for events and specials)

I barely watched this when I was little because I wasn’t really big on the idea of princesses to be honest and I think I remembered there was actually an event where Amber stole Sofia‘s necklace I guess her special amulet that her father gave to her new stepdaughter gave to her as a gift that’s for some reason Sabins Disney princesses whenever she’s having a problem Amber stole it and this moth butterfly princess came out of it, and they had to go on an adventure to save their kingdom, and Amber actually apologized for it.
Fun fact abt James: did you know that he has the same voice actor as Steven Universe

Ruby and Jade were so fake. Like how are they gonna be hatin on Sophia for literally no reason? Like there’s a reason Sophia never told them about the amulet, and it’s because they’re toxic. 😤
I used to have a group of younger friends who once wanted to play Sofia the first I offered to play Amber cause nobody wanted to play her

Hearing you talk about amber is interesting, I'm a bit of an older fan (Long story short: found some clips, got curious, watched a bit, new comfort show found when I just want to have fun) it's interesting hearing you talk on Amber because well... I kinda love the brat?
After the Pilot Movie I mostly got the vibe Amber was never activley trying to be awful, she was just a spoilt kid who didn't think anything through hard enough and by the end she's matured enough I didn't think the kingdoms gonna be burnt to the ground in minutes. (It's subtle but she is not the same person in season 1 as she is in season 4) And I also got that having someone who was just... wrong, was a convinent way of starting conflict in episodes.
Green for her is an interesting choice, but as obvious as it might be I would have picked Orange because it's the opposite to purple and would contrast well with Sophia and well... Amber XD
As for your take on Sophia: I love the ponytail, it feels so right for her to control her hair like that, and it feels more practical. Something she would naturally want to do and probably would think about. Less a fan of losing the big bell skirt but I admit that's personal taste.
If you return to Sophia redesigns (Please do) I would love to see your take on Lucinda, I love the character, I love witches, I love lots of things about her... but man is her design too much. The green, the pinks, the purples, the blues the pattern... Girl needs some love. I'm sure it's possible to keep her bright and Disney Junior friendly without her being a clashing mess.

Having Amber in Orange is such a genius idea because not only is it the opposite of Sofia BUT it's also all of the (traditional) secondary colors so the kids can be Orange, Green and Purple meanwhile the parents can be Red and Blue with an obvious yellow missing (being Sofia's dad and the twins Mom)

I heard that you're still on season one of "Sofia the First", maybe you should watch the whole series before you do the redesign, just a friendly advice to you.
Long story short: Great redesign video, green looks great on Amber, and ponytail for Sofia is cute for her.

Technically Amber shouldn't of been next in line due to the Royal Rule with the oldest boy being first in line.
(I know, I know Sophia the first world works differently, But idk I feel like James should of gotten the throne, not Amber)
Also Sofia can't be in line for the throne since she has no royale blood.
Her mom only has the title of 'Queen' because 'King' is the higher title. If Sophia's mom had the Royale blood, then the king would only go by the title of 'Prince' since the one with the Royale blood has the higher title
(I know that rule applys in their world)

but if you watch the show further you realise she actually is the next in line, the law said oldest, not oldest boy. the reason they thought it was boy was because aunt tilly(king rowlands older sister) told him this as she didn’t want to rule.

My favorite part when I was a kid was that Sofia could turn into a mermaid (I have an obsession with Mermaids)
Anyway, even though I didn't agree on everything I will say I LOVE and I mean LOVE you gave Amber curls and Sofia a ponytail. Without spoiling how or when basically, we at one point finally get to see what Amber and James mom looked like and she had curls so the fact Amber also has curls was really cute 🥹

Cedric is perfect and I will actually fight everyone on it. He's such a good character and I cannot believe I'm saying this as a 17 year old dude but I will enjoy kid shows damnit! I did enjoy Amber ngl I was kind of apart of the Sofia hate group I thought she was annoying but I warmed up to her eventually. The adults designs r so cute I love them sm.
I grew up on that show. Still love it, and my favorite character is still Sophia. Your redesigns are amazing! It is kinda weird that the characters in the show are so fancy. I remember watching it from 2014-2017.

Gurl I watched it for almost all my childhood I really like how they don't use the stereotypical girl power show and shows amazing equality and I remember when Sofia said just cuz she's a princess don't mean she can't be a fighter and Ambers development was so uhh like she was so MEAN and bro... I hated her but the show does good at calling her out when with her BS

Cedric was my favorite character. Also, I agree that Sofia should have had a simpler dress. She started out as a commoner and wouldn’t be very materialistic.

Amber was my favorite character as a kid lol I always always connected with her passion to astronomy. Sure she was mean but she was never cruel (besides the pilot) and reminded me a lot of my older sister. I never finished the show but it makes me kinda sad that she ended up as queen and not as an astronomer lol. Also Sophia loos so cute here!!!

i know you are still on season 1 but you should know that sofia's amulet changes color to redish pink in mid season 3 beacause she released elena from it,
and after that she wears a mix of purple and pink
also amber is only a brat in season 1-2, she has really good charcter develpment to a better person and sister

I don't think they necessarily choose who's next in line for the throne tbh. It seems that the oldest male gets the throne and since James is the only boy in the succession line he's to be the next king. But if anything were to happen to him Amber would be next in line since she's the oldest.
Also, Amber had a lot of character development throughout the seasons so nowadays she's nowhere near the mean girl she used to be.
I don't mean to say she was a good person, but really she was just a kid. She was the oldest one who has had way more responsibilities and other people's expectations on her shoulders, so it make sense that she'd try to dress and act like an adult instead of like a 13 yo girl. And if we're talking about dressing fancy or too formal when you're too young, shouldn't Sofia herself also be included in this list? Girlie pop walked around with one of the fanciest dressess in the show. Her dress was also purple and in the past purple was the most rare and expensive color so??? 😭😭😭
@@oof9762 you are so right! I just finished season two and I definitely James is going to be king, he cares and is loyal and supportive to others . I have a theory too that Amber will be duchess but be an astronomer she adores the stars and I love that for her! I can really tell that she loves it

I totally get how Amber would come off as a know-it-all, but to me it kind of came off as someone who was trying to be helpful/impress others without considering their wording. Amber always, at least to me, seem like a spoiled kid who didn’t rly know any better than her priviledged background/life. So, in the movie, when Sophia first came, she lashed out in a way to retaliate a massive change in dynamics within her family. Not that it excuses anything that she did to Sophia, but in some ways I understand that she almost felt powerless in a life-altering event and the only thing she could do was resist that change as much as she could by trying to drive the main cause aka Sophia out of her life.
Omg Sofia the first I was so obsessed with the show was when I was 10!! I did eventually watch the whole show honestly I didn't like season 3-4. Seasons 1-2 were amazing though! I agree about the designs though. Sofia's original was good its just the other characters! Amber looks so basic imo. She does get alot better as the story progresses along with cedric.

I get that some kids shows should be enjoyed by the kids, teens and their parents alike, but can we just let kids have ONE THING for them to enjoy alone? The reason the colours and designs are so vibrant and “plain” are because KIDS LOKE VIBRANT THINGS, which most adults dont like. Why are you throwing salt at (most of our) childhood nostalgia?
@@myntlovessans230 i wasn’t trying to! That wasn’t my intention! I haven’t seen the WHOLE SHOW before since I was SIX YEARS OLD. So I really forgot about the show.
The show being targeted/intended for children, does not exclude it from criticism, and critique.
Just because the audience is intended to be children, does not mean we cannot question the choices made in design, or writing.
Critiquing a show does not take away from anyone’s enjoyment of it. If it takes away your joy, you should step back and consider why.
No one is saying you have to agree, or that’s the only way things should go.

Great example of "just because you can doesn't mean you should". It's amazing how many "artists" believe that just because they can hold a stylus in their hands and draw a few lines in their repetitive Tumblr style, they're suddenly character designers. How do you even compare the old design (clearly made by a professional that knew what they were doing, who respected design principles that you haven't even heard of) to your design that isn't even era specific, unbalanced, poorly drawn, does not fit the audience it's supposed to be targeted to and many more things. Please note that I'm not criticizing your poor drawing skills, but mainly you design skills. Just because you believe you can draw (which is debatable), it doesn't mean you have a good idea for design. Maybe try learning the basics first.

Dude this comment is so mean. I understand wanting to critique someone or their art but this is so disrespectful. This video is obviously just for fun, designing the characters in a way that she likes. You don't have to like them or you can disagree with her opinion on the original designs, but that doesn't justify being a jerk. If you want to actually critique someone then try giving them actual advice instead of trying to tear someone down for having fun.
