Are you an escalator person or a stairs person? This seemingly simple choice holds deeper implications for our health and mindset. As you encounter the escalator and stairs in a mall, your choice reflects your approach to health and life. Choosing the stairs, though it requires more effort, signifies a commitment to doing what's beneficial in the long run. This video isn't just about a physical choice-it's about cultivating a mindset that embraces challenge for long-term gain.
These everyday decisions, like returning a grocery cart or opting for a short walk, shape our character and health trajectory. By consistently choosing the slightly harder path, we strengthen our willpower and cultivate habits that lead to a healthier life. This philosophy extends beyond physical health, influencing our motivation to exercise, resist unhealthy food temptations, and make proactive choices for our well-being. I invite you to reflect on and share how this concept manifests in your life. Are you ready to start taking the stairs, both literally and metaphorically?

I've lived in my building for 5 years and always take the stairs... I've had people notice and say they should start taking the stairs as well.... I call one of my neighbors stair master since she started taking them instead of elevator!

Great video Dr. Anthony, this really resonated with me, last year myself and a few colleagues made a New Year's resolution that we were going to walk up the stairs to floor 6 in our office rather than getting the lift everyday - yesterday I was out having a coffee with the same 2 colleagues and I asked them if they had kept it up, they laughed and didn't believe I had done it almost every morning over the past year. When we came back to the office, I challenged them to walk up the stairs with me, they were out of breath by the time we got to the second floor and were shocked that I ran up the remaining flight of stairs to floor 6. To be honest, I was surprised as they were only in their mid 20s and I had perceived them as being fit, although in my mid 40s, I had the same issue a year ago when we last walked up the stairs in our office together. Yes, very true - short term pain for long-term gains, lol and it only takes 3 minutes out of my day to receive this incredible health benefit!!!

You are absolutely right! It is shocking that many people do not even walk on the escalator, not to mention taking the stairs.
We need to take care of ourselves by doing the daily work.
Thank you for making this important point.

In my F3 workout group, we use the term CTHT for "choose the harder thing". Don't always take it, but the opportunity is always there.

Some of the malls where I live only have escalators, which suck, but makes sense if you’re carrying stuff. But if they have both stairs and escalators next to each other and I’m by myself, I’ll take the stairs. However, if I’m walking my elderly mother, of course I’m gonna take the escalator.

Michael Easton's books are wonderful in further explaining this. Statistically only 2% of people will take the stairs when an escalator is next to it. I like being part of the 2%.

I don't like to choose .... so I often take the escalator and walk all the way. 😁
But there are many stairs where I live and not so many escalators, so most of the time I don't even have a choice. 🙂
