    Should be saying your top performing drivers for each class of truck. With your fleet trucks it’s not the individual unit as much as it’s the driver’s habits.

    One thing that is being ignored is those owner ops that have a little older truck may well not have a truck payment. If it costs me $1500 a month more in fuel vs spending 4k on a truck payment thats still $2500 in my pocket.

    • @user-se3hj5hr1q
      @user-se3hj5hr1q Месяц назад +1

      If your payment is $4k you definitely should have a bunch of warranty on it. Usually up to 750k miles if you get the extended warranty. That’s means no engine or transmission rebuild out of pocket. After treatment system is covered as well.
      Older guy truck goes down he could face a big tow bill plus time down time and $20-30k for rebuild cash money.

    • @preston9412
      @preston9412 Месяц назад

      @user-se3hj5hr1q Alot of that depends on where your at in business, A guy that bought a truck new and has been running and maintaining the truck for 5 years to get to where they no longer have a truck payment should easily have 20-40k stacked away for maintaining it. They just had 5 years of warranty coverage. And saving 3k a month adds up quickly. Like all things in trucking managing your money is key to being successful. Spent that kind of money bringing a truck I bought back to life and into good shape. When I was looking for a New truck even with a 40k down payment and a 750 credit score I couldn't find a lender last year that would finance a New truck at under 20% as a new business. So I deal with a truck that's getting 6.8 mpg on the heavy loads and closer to 8 when they are light but don't have a truck payment that would cut the money I'm putting away for a rainy day in half each month. Alot is what works for you I could make more per loaded mile on a % plan but the 3 years i worked as a company driver before buying a truck to work with them told me I'd be looking at 200-300 mile unpaid deadheads pretty regularly, as a cpm contractor I don't really care what the rates are I get paid the agreed rate and make almost the same when they decide I need to dead head across 3 states.

    If you're a driver and an owner, a paid off truck is worth the extra fuel. Need a few weeks off? if you're paying $3-4k/month for that truck, plus $2k for insurance, that time is very expensive. Downtime costs loss of revenue and the repair, same for new and old, but tack on that payment for a 3 week stay at the shop and those fuel bills aren't as scary. I can rebuild a DD13 about the same as a major emissions failure on a 2022 rig, and engines are far more predictable. Emissions failures can happen within 100k miles and warranty work is back burner at the shops. Regens burn up wires and it's a real mess.
    I drove for a mega carrier a few years back and those new trucks still found their way into the back lot at the shop. Drove 3 new trucks in just 8 months for maintenance issues.
    As a trucking company buying a dozen trucks cash off the line, sure, get a new fleet. As an owner operator? You're a debt slave to that truck.

    My 07 freightliner century 14 L 60 series 455hp 2.64 gear ratio gets up to 9mpg, depending on load weight, speed, altitude, wind etc. We don't idle, use tripac apu, i installed 140 gallon tanks and this allows me to buy fuel where prices are cheaper, sometimes i just get enough fuel to make it to cheaper fuel. Overhauled engine instead of newer truck, having no payment means i work when i want to or if the load pays well enough.

    • @CatrachoDNYC
      @CatrachoDNYC Месяц назад +2

      Forget the classics/conventional if you want better mpg your truck has to be aerodynamic. First have your fuel tanks cleaned, install a FASS fuel system and this will keep your injectors healthy, better mpg and slightly more power. The newer trucks are more aerodynamic but with all the sensors, price, def etc some people I know stay in shops and not on the road. My overhaul cost with labor and outside components like air compressor, turbo and water pump, speed, timing and oil sensors was about 24,500 including all injectors. I basically have a new old engine that should last me @ least 700,000 miles. All oem parts. You have to drive for mpg meaning 62~65 mph. If you go with century 12.7 60 series 450-500 horse power pre egr. If you get engine with EGR don't delete it causes more problems than it solves.Good luck driver.

    Truck being in warranty meaning very low repair costs, Fuel savings and oil change savings since new trucks need oil changes every 25k miles vs 12,000 on older trucks. You save around $3000 per month. Comparing that to a payment of a new truck vs old truck I think you'd pretty much be breaking even. Older truck payment cost is around $1200 vs brand new truck payment being $3500. Newer trucks definitely save you little bit of money but for bigger fleets operating 100+ trucks it makes sense, not so much for an owner operator.

    Obviously long nose trucks take a lot of real estate to turn around Park, back in and all that s*** and there are some incidents I'm sure that are involved with inexperienced drivers well cabovers with a short wheelbase can turn around on a dime and back into almost anything without hitting anything, if your self-insured you might rather have those even though the fuel mileage is worse but you'd have to find someone willing to drive one.
