My take is that John came back with the lesions on his body that would burst and release a disease that would bring about the apocalypse. That’s why everyone who was in the lab died and that’s why the narrator began vomiting blood at the end. He was infected by the ‘blister’ that burst from John, who had escaped the facility to continue spreading the pestilence that would end all life.
I really like this theory
Yeah I'm thinking those blisters are either the seals themselves or they break when the seals break kind of like a way to show the progress
All because we could let the unknown stay that way.

@@ElderGodAzathoth nah the seals come in phases. Death a.k.a. The pale horse is the fourth seal. So this would be the instrument of death…. If you follow the Bible version.

Gathering from this information, this most likely means the smiling man became the harbinger of the rapture in the void and when he escaped the events of revelation has begun thus dooming everything and everyone

Wow I hope there is a part 2 to explain this, really well written just feel like it needs a part 2 or an ending to do this story justice.
You must be new to creeepypastas. These writers aren’t professionals so they usually have a cool concept but that’s as far as it goes
Story definitely has allusions to the end of the world according to Revelations in the Christian Bible. The story is built well and has cool imagery as any science fiction should. Though, it ends very abruptly. Not enough explanation for me.
But you just gave the explanation, Revelations 🤔

everyone in room was dead due to getting that extremely deadly disease from him.
basically,
in the whole rapture experiment, only one participant, sort of "succeeded".
but what he achieved was,
an inescapable way to bring the world to an end.

Remind me of “Flatliners”, only more intense in a way. Same principle, but I saw that ending far too early for it to be a “revelation”, it could’ve been held at bay until the last 2-3 minutes and that would have gotten me! Well written! I definitely enjoyed it, psycho scientists treading too far and looking into the damaged looking glass. They’re going to wish they hadn’t.

Great story, very visceral. And great narration as always.
I know that this is fictional but this is why ensuring that research and transportation and many other fields of employment have rules and meetings and clinics on ensuring that peoples rank or position does not silence those below them from speaking up. Disasters happen, people die and destruction occurs when those subordinates do not feel as though they can clearly and quickly challenge without repercussion the orders, thoughts, actions and perceptions of their superiors.

I've probably played hundreds or thousands of hours of these horror stories on my phone over the years. However, I have only listened to around a total of 5 hours while conscious because I typically pass out after 2 minutes. I wonder what subconsciously listening to thousands of hours of terrifying stories does to your psyche... Maybe they should write a creepy pasta on this topic. I might even try to stay awake to listen until the end.

So .... This is wrong but i was living with a older lady one time and i LOVE thease stories but i didnt know she could barly hear them from my room to hers and she started having nightmares matching the stories i listened to i did stop once i realize it was affecting her but she didnt even realize she could hear them as whem everyone was awake you couldnt hear them butbwhen it was quiet you could ... Had her paranoid and creeped out so it probably dose affect you in some way even if you dont realize try keeping a dream journal amd see if you dream the stories

Wow, poor lady! Maybe it's better that you didn't tell her. She would probably get upset. Yes, I had a few nightmares and some weird dreams over the years but nothing related to creepy pasta stories. It's amazing that this lady did. I guess some people's auditory part of the brain stays conscious during sleep and they can process what they hear.

Um this entire story is build up to one event- but then nothing happens after- and there’s no explanations as to wtf is going on… the narration is great of course, and the author is very articulate and talented, but the tedious structure, excessive detail and lack of information or story development left me wanting my 25 minutes back…. Beautifully read tho as always!

I came here to post exactly this.
What I got from this is: some people wanted to go to heaven to figure out the "cure" for mortality so they took a bunch of people, put them in a death-like state and made them go towards the light, which they suspected was an entryway into heaven.
All was well and good until John came back possessed by something else, killed all of the staff, fucked off out the window and presumably kick-started the apocalypse.
Honestly, I liked the premise but the ending was dogshit.

I tried Amateurville audiobook and had dreams of demons in my walls that was awesome I woke up scared for once. The phone was talking about winged creature sounds or something.
