This is an excellent and truly informative review, from clear descriptions of the sound to technical measurements and other things as well. Thank you so much! I bought these based in part on this review. I have the Triangle BR03s, which I really like, but I needed something bigger for a quite large classroom space with high ceilings. The BR08s are much better suited to the space, and I find their sound signature pretty close to the BR03s. Overall really lovely, detailed, and open. Your description is great. Any suggestions on partnering equipment in the mid-price range? The LTA is a bit beyond my budget. Oh, I used your LOTS system. That too was very helpful and easy to follow. Thanks again!

That was a good review man ! Not surprised ! Going down to 40hz in my dampened down nearfield room personally is good for me , I use to be the biggest bass head ! Now just give me fast tight grippie lowend with a lil weight close to 40hz me good, I love the 🔺 midrange drivers 'midrange texture'
in these Triangles drums sound so real its addictive Ron !

When Ron posted the sound clips last week I mentioned the upper midrange blurring. The measurements confirmed this but also confirmed how well the BRO 8's perform through the rest of the audio range.

Thanks for the review. I have ordered these in light oak.
It will be thrilling to hear these speakers soon. I can only get 40 cm free space behind them, as the manual says, and I hope they will sound good enough.

After many months of listening to the Borea BR08s both at home and in my classroom, I've realized that you get the best and most open sound with your ears at tweeter level or below. In fact I suspect the ideal spot is with your ears at a level just below the circle that surrounds the tweeter and just above the circle that surrounds the midrange driver - halfway between the perimeters of these two circles. My rough sense is that it's also fine to have your ears at a lower level than that, though I haven't experimented in detail. What I notice when my ears are at the "ideal" spot or lower is better sound stage and imaging, a more enveloping sound, more balance between the frequencies, and music is just more engaging. These are all subjective impressions, but they have seemed pretty reliably true to me over time. Since I have a rather high desk and desk chair, I raised the speakers to accomplish this. The other benefit is that when walking around or doing other things in the room and listening casually, the sound is better too, on account of what Ron points out, that the vertical sweet spot tapers off pretty quickly as your ear gets higher than the tweeter. So with my speakers now raised, I get less of that vertical tapering off when I'm standing.

Be curious to hear your opinion of these vs the elac 2.0 towers you reviewed & stated best under $1500. I'm sure these are not as bright as horn loaded options but how forward/bright are these? I'm not a fan of the horn options as I get fatigued. This was so much easier 20 years ago when we had few quality offerings under 1500 lol.
I plan to couple my speaker choice with a schiit saga+ tube preamp & either the emotiva bassX amp or a digital option from crown or xtc. Sources are vinyl, tidal or my flac rips...

I was intrigued by the resemblance between the A/V--O and the Ohm Walsh... perhaps, have you and/or Steve might have contrasted these two speaker systems?... thanks, Ron... I enjoy you videos and appreciate your insights...

I would love bass like this in my home, but I'm limited with space and I don't think they would work. That said, they sound mighty impressive, especially for the price! • @bryede

I think if you want the sound of natural paper cones, there's a trade off and you have to put up with some decay issues. Also, running the midrange as wide as they do means they consider that driver to be the most critical part of the design (operating more like a full-range with assisted top and bottom). With the death of hi-fi specialty shops, people have become obsessed with evaluation by measurements. I'm sure it's a difficult choice for a speaker manufacturer when the most engaging subjective alignment doesn't produce the best objective measurement.

I have them about 2 metres apart and just under 0,5 m from the back wall (I could probably stick them a bit closer to the back wall without impairing the sound too much, but I'm def. no hardcore audiophile so YMMV). They're in my library/living room which is pretty small, a little less than 20 square metres. Tbh, I would probably be perfectly happy with one of the smaller models given the size of my room and the fact that my main listening position is pretty close to the speakers. That being said, they're pretty decent-looking for their size (I have them in walnut), and the difference in price is negligable, so I'm still happy with choosing the 9's in terms of future proofing etc etc. Hope this helps, and just let me know if you have any other questions!

I had the BR08 first paired with a Rotel 1062A Amp and then with a Cambridge Audio AXR85 Amp. After breaking in for a few days and trying multiple room positions, the treble is still ear-piercing and highly fatiguing. To play at 70-80db, I have to reduce the treble by -4 db just to make it bearable to listen. This one is going back.

I don't know what happened to audio reviews. Why does virtually no one convey the manufacturer's specifications anymore?? Yes, you tell us that the speakers go down to about 40Hz. What about the other end? It matters to me if a speaker goes to 20kHz vs 25 or even 35kHz. It tells me a lot about the tweeter. And it's great that you do your own measurements. Hardly anyone else does this. But your own graphs top out at 20k, so we're still in the dark. Please, please give us the specs for equipment, and then you can even compare them to your own findings. Please. Please. It matters.

I still prefer my old late model last edition magnesium driver monitor audio gold reference GR20 loudspeakers which at the moment is fronted by an astell and kern kann direct dac line output tidal hifi / master subscription player into my two biamped amplification, in my main lounge system, and my bedroom system is fronted by cd, and single amplification, with good efficiency two way 3 driver 130mm coated paper drivers and a 25mm silk dome tweeter, which are a pair of Edwards audio sp2 floorstanders. I prefer my audio system not to gloss over detail from the source component and recorded material, while also able to be fast and dynamic capable and to be able to track the quietest inflections of detail while sounding balanced top to bottom in frequency. I don't like loudspeakers and audio components that seemingly sound slow blurry muddy heavy type bass, and tipped up very highly in high frequencies which provoke bad sibilance. The whole system chain has to be able to hit all this criteria for my preference quality, while seemingly sounding natural enough and true enough to the source materials intent to my liking. It is a very fine balance between all these criteria of qualities. Any thing else about getting too far into spectral decays and the likes of and listening to loudspeaker cabinets with a micro stethoscope kind of thing too much, I am not bothered about, as long as the loudspeakers are solidly built, and does not encrouch enough to spoil the whole capabilities of the loudspeakers detail and the musics musical message and and its whole sound capabilities . You could have a loudspeaker that is as dead and quiet as a tomb, but it also could sound very dead lifeless musically as well, and most probably has other areas of compromises not to your liking as with its drive units design and materials used, and its crossover components and chosen crossover frequencies not to your choice and likes of design choices, not as a whole totally designed to your liking and preferences that your ideal choices might and would be. It is all swings and roundabouts, and nothing will ever be perfect and perfection from the audio manufacturers in the ways you would want it to be, so all you can do is get the best audio products as possible suited nearly as ideal as is possible to your near ideals as possible, as regards their electronic / electrical design, build, as regurds the whole audio component choices and musically as a whole, as to the sound quality aspects of the whole audio system and its actual whole sound performance qualities and abilities. As to some pointers as to the whole audio chains whole sound abilities, can it clearly expose all those recordings tiny and quiet little details and inflections, harmonic content, pitch definitions, etc across the loudspeakers whole inherent bandwidth without sounding slow and pondering and undynamic to the musics inherent content of information, and be able to extract all the detail without missing its harmonic structure, pitch definition, through the whole loudspeakers inherent bandwidth. As regurds those recordings with compressions and distortions can it clearly be heard with out sounding the least bit edgy, sibilant, while also sounding as natural and dynamic as possible to the whole musics intent and message, while also sounding loud enough for each individual recording clearly and cleanly without fatigue to your hearing while also neutrally uncoloured and transparent and natural to the musics recording in a balanced way frequency wise from top to bottom as is possible . If your audio system is capable of been able to convey this kind of quality performance to this high degree, then you have a very adapt and very capable and musically coherent audio system to a high enough level standard of good quality, without it sounding a total mess of confused sound, no matter the recording material or the inherent quality of its production quality. You should try to listen to as many audio components and loudspeakers as you can as is possible, including some older used components if you can. There are very few and good audio components that are designed for maximum detail retrievel and retention of detail , and a very few minority of audio components say for example in the mid 90's for example that can still cut it today as reguards this aspect. A few dynamic loudspeakers say from around the noughties for example are still good enough today to satisfy with good levels of detail resolution satisfaction. The best audio components if done properly that are designed very well with the very shortest and most compact audio signal path with the least amount of components while also been the least complex and intrusive audio circuit design are much more capable in detail retrievel and retention of detail with resolution with lower distortion levels. The same applies for loudspeakers with good enough build and design quality and for them to use the least amount of intrusive crossover components as is possible to get away with, so as to loose as little as is possible from the signal source and amplification. Any audio components / loudspeakers that are so complex with lots of components with longer signal paths straight away looses vital audio signal detail information, resolution, and transparency to the audio signal.
