I just want to say thank you to whoever is running this channel.
This is the kind of outreach we need from the government to build trust and credibility, as opposed to silly sound bites from the news, which no one believes anymore.
Whether it’s Fox or CNN, etc.
It was very interesting to see assessments by US Defense personnel about the current composition and operational capability of the Russian forces while also comparing those to our own capabilities and their potential impact on the foreign policy of both nations and those in-between, such as the Baltic States.

The japanese cities were infant stage atomic weapons and are not even in the same league as what is available today by Russia and the U.S. I do not think Russia is stupid enough to drop nuclear weapons however I could see them resorting to biological warfare as the next stage of escalation.

Chinese had their own theater during WW2, they weren't really fighting in the pacific.
OK, that was disappointing. Yes, the AK series assault rifles use the 7.62x39. But that's not a 7.62 x 54R. It is not superior to the 5.56x45mm M855 or even the M193, even in the 14.5" barrel of the M4A1. The AK-74 and its successors continue to use the 5.45x39 round which was developed based on Soviet experience in Vietnam. I don't see how the RPK-74 is better than the M249 or the PKM is better than the M240.
Russian LMG's are lighter tho. The RPK74 and PKM are light as fuck that the Polish tried to Re-chamber it for nato use... hilariously.
They're perfect for motorstrelsky tactics(I.E. mobile defense tactics) when used in conjunction with BMP's and tanks. But I would digress that they would suck against a well prepare Nato formation. And motorstrelsky tactics are no doubt outdated since the '80s.
But if you were banking on a thunder rush, an entire motor rifles division with supporting Armor and Arty could do the job well. Just don't expect them to do well in the defensive.
It depends on what distance the military expected to engage. if you are engaging vietnam moneys jumping out of a hole 20 meters away blast at you, M14 or M16 is not going to work.
7.62x39 is gonna knock people out, the US marine uses 300blackout round, which is the 7.62x39 equivalent.
The difference in small arms is inconsequential on an operational or even tactical level. The PKM is probably more pleasant to carry than the M240B for a soldier but artillery, tactics, reconnaissance etc. are so much more instrumental.
The Kornet is not a 1-2 man portable shoulder fired system and must be set up on a tripod and maintain a laser on target until impact unlike the javelin. Popping smoke and moving a few meters can defeat a Kornet, but good luck trying that on a javelin. NATO has laser guided TOW systems that do what the Kornet does. The comment on air defense superiority is valid however IMO. NATO largely expects aircraft to shoot down enemy air assets but Russia has a better system for totally ground based air deterrence.
PKM is match lighter, that's all.

Not mentioned is the US attempts to leverage its atomic monopoly and attempting to force the USSR to change its policy in Poland that the Allies agreed to at Yalta to begin with.
FDR failing to inform Congress that Stalin was going to need a USSR friendly Poland.
This is what led to the Cold War. The Allies reneging on their agreement at Yalta. In a well documented meeting between Molotov and Byrnes , Byrnes threatened to nuke Russia if they didn't follow US policy for Poland. Naturally Molotov refused. Naturally, the Soviets were gonna " double down and Churchill then plays the iron curtain speech. The Monarchist racist had a list of Russian cities he wanted Truman to drop the atom bomb on. The ultimate jerk. The crass pig completely ignored that the Soviets spent lots of blood and treasure to eject the Nazis from Poland and Churchill expected Stalin to just hand over Poland. The pig wouldn't send 2 divisions to the Eastern Front but was happy to enforce operation Unthinkable using American blood.
Also not mentioned was operation Gladio which sought to reverse the USSRs goodwill in Europe built as a consequence of defeating the Nazis and attempt to discredit the USSRs achievemt in defeating Hitler. Painting Stalin - uncle joe - as a mass murderer also began.
The " champions of democracy" then began to interfere in Italian elections and assassinate communist candidates to prevent any communists from being elected. I am pretty sure the CIA had an excellent teacher in MI6 as the British sought to maintain influence in world affairs from the coattails of the USA.
Not mentioned is the false portrayal of the USSR as an expansionist threat and the resultant containment doctrine by Kennan.
All these events and probably more contributed to Soviet Paranoia.

Expansion of NATO even after Russia ceased to be a threat proves that it is the west that is expansionist. It is the west that is trying to preserve the Colonial Empire it lost. 36.15 An army officer states Russian weapons such as ak74 have larger caliber than US weapons. Explain how 5.45x39 mm is larger than 5.56x45 mm. I’m no ballistics expert but they seem to be equivalent. Makes me doubt the rest of his expert opinions. And if he is referring to 7.62x39 of ak47 we have seen very few of those weapons operating in current conflict.
AK47 is less accurate but the round has more kinetic energy upon impact.
What you get out of these 'experts' is arrogance. The best they see something is as 'near peer'. This coming from a military that has been fighting third world militaries at best, and usually guys in sandals. No one has had air defence, or an air force at all in the last few decades.
I encountered multiple people in the military who claimed to be an “expert” on near peer/Russian equipment, who not only made the claim that “7.62” was the standard Russian caliber, but they thought it was a 7.62x51mm equivalent. They did not even know 5.45x39mm exists.
A Drill Sargent even told us that the reason we use 5.56 is because it’s cheaper per round than 7.62.
The bullet of the 5.45 is longer, maybe he meant that
the Ak47 have those sharper bullets, making them a menace when hitting humans, in the west its called green tip ammo

Yes, the AK-12 and AK-74 are both in 5.45. The AK-47 is still in use but it was probably a result of the Russians issuing old stocks after the initial invasion failed, much in the same way older WWII vintage weapons made their way to the front. They by no means provide any significant advantage over western weapons as they require just as much maintenance to keep functioning in a combat environment. Additionally, the simplicity of use and reliability of the AR-family of weapons used by the US and many of our western allies far surpasses that of any garden variety of AK platform when considering maintenance, marksmanship training, and ability to accept attachments that enhance the shooter’s performance. This is what happens when you assign an officer to report on small arms even though they’ve never served in an infantry squad. They find boomer-influenced myths and perpetuate them in our doctrinal understanding of a near-peer adversary.
Nobody still uses AK-47 except for a few that occasionally pop in rebel hands in Africa. The 47 pattern is pretty rare, the bulk of old 7.62 AKs are either AKMs or type 56s because they were mass production models.
AKs are durable, easy to service, and easy to use. They also cost 1/3 the price of the garden variety AR for similar performance and the people selling them have no scruples in shipping arms and ammo to anyone with the cash. A stock AR has negligible benefits over an AK-74 so there is very little reason to buy one if they don’t plan on issuing attachments beyond gp-25 underbarrel grenade launchers and PSO dovetail scopes.

That adage "two levels down" is one of many things which the American armed forces (to use the by far most successful example) and many others have learned from studying the operational and tactical doctrines of "Der Größer Generalstab." He makes it sound like it's an American military doctrine of unique lineage. Not that I don't agree that the U.S. Armed Forces are the best professional army the world has ever seen, at least by modern standards. But I'm often irritated by what to certain foreign observers seems to be a fantastic ability to forget how recent that military hegemony actually is, and how much they've learned from others and adapted or simply made bigger and yes sometimes better. It's tricky challenging Americans at times even just in this type of way, they can get most testy about things! This might be one of those comments better let be too late

The USA and Europe have always been imperial-centric. For them, the USSR was "Russia". Ukraine was Russia, and nothing else but Moscow should decide for Kyiv, Tbilisi, Yerevan, Tashkent... While even this Russia that exists now -- let alone the Russian Empire and USSR -- is not a federation and has never had any real, free and fair, elections. Russia has always been a centralised empire, which was built from hundreds of annexed nations and peoples of different languages, not even slavic. Up to date.

Those T54 are Ukrainians tank, though. They just film it to think it was Russia who used those and made people believe that Russia has low technology weapon. Russia only uses T90 and T72. Even in Syria.

Respectfully disagree, the S-400 is good but the advanced sensory array is a lot of “fluff”. True, the low L band frequency to “detect” may find stealth fighters, but they cannot “target”. The S-400 is highly capable but not nearly as good as advertised, my example is just one of the bullshit advancements of their IAMD capability.
I don't think you understand how advanced the West military equipment is half the stuff is top secret some things we don't even know about that exist and the reason for that secrecy is because of when we go to war with the near Peer will pull out the goodshit
How would javelin work if a tank pops smoke and rolls back? Modern smoke launchers work in thermal range too. Javelin is way more expensive and technically complex, including training and maintenance... that's the only difference between the two. Nowadays we don't have a way to stop Kornet until we modernize our defence systems accordingly...also Kornet can be operated by a single person but normally it would be two...same as an AGL or AGS.

If Kornet is not on par and sufficient then Russian Army can adapt and solve that issue. They captured many unused Javelins and NLAWs in Ukraine so they have the ability to reverse engineer them and develop their own mobile AT system like Javelin. Russians have developed PMK guidance kits for their unguided bombs to guide them properly to targets which is similar to US made JDAMs. If this was the case Kornets would already be replaced or in the process of being replaced.

Ukraine is divided by the Diniper River.
Every piece of equipment being used by the Ukrainian military, every soldier, supplies , ammunition, weapons by the West to Eastern Ukraine has to cross the bridges in That river to Eastern Ukraine .
The only reason why the Russians have not destroyed all those bridges in the Diniper and cut the entire Ukranian military East of the river is because Putin does want them to.
Russia invaded Eastern Ukraine to protect and save the Ethnic Russians of Eastern Ukraine who were being brutally oppressed by Neo Nazis far right groups like the Azov Batallion C-14 and the Right Sector who were funded and armed by the US and NATO.

They would have carpet bombed every major city in Ukraine.
All of Ukraine would have been turned into a moon crater in the first 2 to 3 weeks of the conflict.
Russia does even consider this conflict a war.
They see it as a special military operation.
Most of the Russian forces fighting in this conflict are not even Russian regular forces.
They are militias like the Kublan Cossacksx Wagner, Chechen fighter and local ethnic Russian Ukranians who joined pro Moscow militias to fight against the Nazis in Kiev.
The bulk of the Russian military is not even fighting in this conflict.
The bulk of the Russia military is still back in Russia keeping an eye on NATO in case NATO decides to act cute.

Still quite interesting that all these so-called Russian "experts" don't go into that deep on the Russian military operation strategy in Ukraine and instead apply it to how the US invaded Iraq. This is the most typical and ideal Russian battle scenario imaginable with the current conflict in Ukraine- the strategy of "active defense" or however it's officially called is based on fighting over the same area over and over again and shaping the battle and the field to Russian own liking and strengths. They decide when to stand their ground and when to "retreat", bombard, retake the area and rinse and repeat. Its funny to see westerner "Russian experts" who said Russia is incompetent and all the soldiers are drunk and don't want to be in Ukraine and with NATO tanks in Ukrainian army used for counteroffensive would swipe away all the Russian conscripts, were dead wrong and the opposite is what happened these so called Russian conscript soldiers armed with shovels have annilhated the Ukrainian army destroying more than half all the NATO supplied tanks and at the same time launched a counteroffensive in Northern Luhansk/Kharkov direction pushing Ukrainians back to the Oskil river.
And yet both are still fighting inch for inch of land at a slow pace. Nobody is annihilating anything, both are taking heavy casualty's and losses, hence the stalemate going on at the moment. You're just as foolish as the same people you're calling out.

I didn't even watch five minutes of this documentary before spotting some glaring inaccuracies. First of all, the Great Northern War occurred during the 18th Century (1700-1721), not the 11th. There is not even a mention of this conflict in the timeline beginning at 3:49!!! Yes, there were wars between Russia/Russian principalities prior to the Great Northern War but none occurred in the 11th Century. They're right that the Russo-Japanese occurred between 1904-1905. However, Tsarist Russia was the aggressor in both the Great Northern War, the Russo-Japanese War, and the Crimean War among other conflicts. I know "11th Century" in the graphic first seen at 3:00 might have been a typo, but come on guys. If you're going to talk about the history of Russia at least get your facts right. Especially given the fact that this is the "Army University Press", FUNDED BY THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT, this is completely unacceptable and frankly embarrassing. The irony is that the aforementioned facts would strengthen the argument that the Russian Federation is an aggressive pariah state that has twisted history to justify its invasions/military operations in Chechnya, Georgia, Nagorno Karabakh and Ukraine. Russia has a long history of being invaded by its neighbors; this was what precipitated Russia's expansion into a massive empire. It is wrong, however, to make it sound like the explanation for the Russian government's perspective on geopolitics and current foreign policy is because they've been playing defense throughout their entire history. This is literally how the regime in Moscow is justifying their invasion of Ukraine (facepalm). This video is an embarrassment to the senior historian (whom I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt as they likely had little to nothing to do with the production of this documentary) and to the United States Army.

Look harder. Plenty has been written about the Allied bombing campaign over Germany, especially the RAF.

Very complex topic. If you only look at the output of the german industry, you will be surprised to find ever increasing numbers in vehicles, planes, and other hardware.
What caused the germans far greater headaches was the lack of oil/fuel AND access to specific other important stuff like copper, aluminium, magnesium, tungsten, chromium, molybdenum...

I have asked just a handful of other Russians in person and online about that, and they told me that history is taught differently depending on which region a Russian lives in. So a Russian who lives in Moscow Oblast is taught a different narrative from a Russian who lives in the Altai Republic (just an example. Idk if these two regions are taught differently or not).

The Russian/Soviet Union has an indisputable history of placing it's image , at the very top of it's priority list. Above the health and safety of the very Russian citizens it proclaims to care so much about. This type of mentality, is better suited to an insecure child. The country is currently as misguided as it ever has been. This certainly should have been a part of the discussion with Ukraine. It serves as a further impetus for war over peaceful cooperation. Russia is far less likely to choose influence over war when dealing with neighbors due to hostility from the atrocities of the Soviet era (which were only a few generations ago, with people still alive today who experienced them). Therefore it is much more difficult for Russia to move towards cooperation with the West, unlike its former soviet republics (Estonia, Ukraine, Georgia, etccc). It definitely has relevance to this topic and should have been mentioned even if not fully addressed in this and any Geopolitical documentary on Russia.
Most died in Western Ukraine which was occupied by Poland in 1920 and returned in 1939. As well as army's grain reserves were spent for countering the deficit and up to 5 million Ukrainians moved to Kazakhstan and Far-East to reduce the local demand. Hardly an artificial hunger policy.

And no. Most did NOT die in Polish-occupied Ukraine. There was no famine in Poland, there were no policies that drove a famine like that.
