I kinda like brio but just because of how rare it is now but if it was sold more than I would probably not like it as much. Also the tender engines couplings are atrocious and I really hate them a lot. If Edward and Gordon was brio than I’d be the first of many express runaways.
Another fun fact: Due to BRIO holding the Thomas license in Europe from 1996 to 2000, Learning Curve had a short-lived wooden train line called Great Railway Adventures. The engines, rolling stock, and destinations had similar shapes to those of Thomas Wooden Railway, but with a more generic and realistic theme. Learning Curve's patented Clickety-clack Track remained the same, as did the signs and trees. When Thomas Wood replaced Thomas Wooden Railway in late 2017, BRIO was one of the leading wooden train systems that I jumped ship to, despite not having the Thomas license. With the decline of Thomas merchandise under Mattel's thumb in general, I wish that BRIO were able to re-acquire the Thomas license. Either it or Orbrium, who makes their products specifically with Thomas Wooden Railway in mind.
Wow! You know the full history behind it!. I was always curious if Gra was only released in Europe because time to time I do see them in the US as well.
@@thomascollectiblesThat's because the GRA trains you probably saw in tbe USA are the ones by Lionel, the company that sold electric trains. The Lionel Great Railway Adventures toyline ran from 1998 to 2005, although they rebranded to the "Lionel Battery Opperated Train System" in 2001.
The Brio Thomas Wooden Railway always interested me and there really hasn't been a whole video about the line and it's history. This video was very interesting and funny keep up the good work man. 👊
I'm very glad you included a picture of a Brio Sky Train setup; even though it was a short-lived sub-theme with rather restricted layout possibilities, it is still a remarkably imaginative system that I love.
I’m definitely going with Brio as the best, with stunning and accurate engines and rolling stock and charming destinations, all keeping the old brio style which I love
You’re the first user in the fandom to post a full synopsis on the brio line, well done! Also, brio we’re planning to make a model of Mavis, she was planned for a 2001 release but was cancelled due to the discontinuation of the line in 2000.
Oh, yeah, I remember Brio. Didn't have too many of their toys. I grew up more with Wooden Railway. Wish I didn't give them all away though. Secondary school had a tough experience on me.
Brilliant video! I grew up with the Brio thomas range, I had a few bits of TWR but the majority of my wooden engines were Brio, I still love the line and hope one day I can complete it! Some I've lost but I hope to find again but i've still got the majority of my engines left.
I found my two Splatter And Dodges from Brio a few months ago. Yes you heard right: *Two of each of them* and the four are still factory sealed and have never been opened at all. They now sit proudly in my display case at my office at my work. A lot of my students and staff ask “what’s with the four wooden Thomas trains?” And I tell them “THEY ARE A PIECE OF WOODEN RAILWAY HISTORY, VERY IMPORTANT PIECES”
Brio has a great amount of charm to it, and captures so much of the character’s personalities But learning curve has the advantage of having far more characters, especially the road vehicles. Both are great in their own ways
I wouldn't say that LC copied BRIO designs with the updated designs. Turns out that when two toylines both do models that are based on the same thing, their models will have similarities. And I'd say the proportions of the new Terence are more similar to those of the old Terence rather than the BRIO one
Ah! I see! It was the wheel pattern and face pattern that looked very similar for me and thought they might of stole it! Especially the annie and clarabel!
i think it depends on the specific model your looking at to determine which is better. like brio toad is streets ahead compared to learning curves version, but the learning curve D10 is just so much better than brio’s
Ever watch one of those fan made videos with Brio Powered Thomas chasing a diesel in stop motion? If so like, cause I can’t remember what it was called-
Brio Thomas is better because The wheel arrangements Andy classic faces and I made not that much factory errors I wish brio Thomas was never discontinued
Another great video Thomas Collectibles. Brio def had better (thicker & more durable) paint jobs and more sturdy construction , but for kids they missed a little on the front magnet so there is some offset as to which is better imo.
I love brio because they made the wheel arrangements so much more accurate than old twr stuff but last year mattel finally fixed it wish brio Thomas was still a thing good video though! Always learn something from you! They could not get gordons wheel configuration right because if the space and notice that henry is like a hybrid of his old and new shape??? ALso i love brio slightly more sorry!

I do t think I knew the others existed until.years later like Terence and Butch. Still own most of them. CRANKY Got lost in a house move and Henry and The Diesel got damaged in the move sadly but still have them. Rest are in the lost with my lc ones as I want to pass them down to any child or nibling (niece or nephew) I get
If I ever have kids, I will make sure I give them the best possible introduction to as many timeless characters as possible, whether it’s Thomas The Tank Engine, Postman Pat, Noddy, Batman, Spider Man, Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny or whoever else you can think of! In the case of Thomas, I’ll definitely show them the pre-Gullane seasons as their introduction to it, and if they like what they see, I’ll get them Wooden Railway and Brio Thomas toys, a mix of both ranges. Some characters I’ll get the Brio versions to avoid getting the lead painted variants of the Wooden Railway lot, in the case of Duck I would make a Bigjigs GWR engine into Duck so there’s still plenty of TWR and Brio Ducks to go round and I’ll simply try to be as good a father as possible!
