I love the look!! Just a small suggestion : never put a leash around your wrist. If the dog pulls hard enough it can actually damage your hand pretty badly. Best thing to do is put it around your thumb which is the strongest part of your hand and hold the rest by making a fist around it. I know.. not para cord related but don’t need anyone getting hurt! 😅

Yeah who needs their thumbs anyway. They are junk. 🤦🏼‍♀️ How about just not be stupid and hold on to your leash with your hand?....and train your dog not to pull. Duh

Wait. WHY DID YOU CUT OFF THE END after the second cow hitch!?
I would have just turned around and used that end to start doing your weave and add another string in right there so you don't have a weak link at the end.

Hi! Do we use 25ft of the shock cord as well? He is a little confusing. LOL

I’ve wanted to make something like this for awhile, but wasn’t sure how exactly to go about it and this gave me a lot of good ideas. But, I’m not a fan of the fact that the leash essentially relies on just two strands of shock cord. That may be fine with a small dog or really well trained dog, but I don’t know that I’d trust a larger dog, that maybe has a tendency to chase rogue rabbits, to just two strands of shock cord. Especially considering rubber naturally breaks down over time, even more so being stretched, leaving all the weight of the dog to just two small strands of stretch-less string… I think you would’ve been better off starting by stringing the two strands of 550 paracord through the clip before the braid to not only give the stretch a definitive stopping point to keep the shock cord being stretched to its limit, but as a backup god forbid those two strands of shock cord degrade to the point they snap when the dog pulls attempting to chase a squirrel or something…

I actually do use the shock cord in my leashes and the shock link is a hot seller in my store. I did have to iterate on the design a few times on my own, so it's fun to see a video created now for shock cord.
Only thing you may want to do differently if replicating this design is attach the 550 cord to the snap hook at the bottom rather than just braid over the shock cord. Otherwise when someone pulls back on their leash they could pull the 550 braid up with them since there isn't anything other than friction keeping the 550 braid attached to the bottom of the leash

I've made 2 of these with a single 1/4" shock cord core and 550 cobra weave around the swivel and upper D-ring to keep it from maxing out the stretch. Both worker great for my dogs, one on which is a 35# heavy-puller. So not sure why he's never heard of using shock cord as the core....

Are there other braids that could work for this stretch effect? I was thinking a flat braid with the bungie core. Cut the bungie to desired length, but then stretch it for the paracord weaving, so when you release it will have that fall restraint harness type of a preload and once the stretch cord reaches its end it would be stopped by the paracord. Is this something that couod be done? I am terrible with braiding and weaving without videos like this to help me.

So this worked for 2 days and I thought this is wonderful, best thing ever. Today however, this 62 lb puppy decided suddenly to zoomie and loud pop, the shock cord came apart and the paracord unraveled. :/ So yeah, back to the drawing board.

For the shock cord you don’t say the size of it and did 25 feet work or did you use less.

Anything for SMALL dogs??? Mine are all 9lbs - 15lbs and dang near all the Paracord videos I see are for large dogs! I know I could probably just use smaller cord, but then figuring out how much I need is well, hard because I'm a beginner. PLEASE HELP!
