  • I spent my summer boating season in 2022 on board my Fisher 37 sailing Fortune and Placentia Bays on the South Coast of Newfoundland. This videos touches into some of my favourite resettled communities in this area. This video will give you a flavour of what awaits the mariner ignoring the often times poor weather and strong winds and currents. You will never be disappointed and always impressed. Check it out! View on a larger screen if possible to get the most from the video.

Ed, this is an excellent video. I’d always wanted to sail in Newfoundland but I’m afraid the closest I’ll get is through your presentations. Which are uniformly well made, knowledgeable and easy to listen to narration and beautiful to see. I was sorry to see Chico is gone. We lost our Yellow Lab about 20 years ago and I still grieve.

Beautiful video. I’m a Lake from Placentia but my family came from St. Kyrans. My grandfather Jerome Lake owns the cabin you were next too. When he passed in 2021 we took his ashes over and made up that plaque.
It was my first time over there but I wish I had to walk around with pop to learn more about it.
Confederation killed Newfoundland and I am the grandson who feels the sorrow and shame that the Newfoundlanders fell for the government game.

I was there in 1963, came by CNN Ferry from Argentia, the church was still standing and the paths were well groomed. Was a guest of the Millers and went trout fishing in the lakes above. I missed the ferry and was transported back in a punt( Make & Break) to Placentia. Stil have pictures of me and Neich Miller. We fried them up in bacon grease and ate them like bacon. Visited a few other houses and they all wanted to know about President Kennedy like he was my brother. They all had pictures of him hanging in the parlor! I am 78 now and still remember well.

Really nice job. I'm taking my girl Odyssey, a C&C 30 home this summer. My grandfather ran rum from St Pierre to Boston during prohibition, Dad was 13, uncle Cyril was 7, they were from Little Harbour. I wasn't allowed near a boat as a kid... mom's law! She was from Petite Forte. I'll be visiting many ports. I'm solo on this one, actually, I've been solo on the excursions of the past 24 yrs as no else handles the boat. Lol... Anyway, You have handed me a few "must see spots". I know a Mullaley lived in Oderin as well. There aren't many, but all Mullaley in North America, and close spelling are close cousins...a good lot of them hit here first in Placentia Bay.

Sailor & historian, poet, patriot and videographer, few can rival Ed for his love of the history and heritage of our island home.
Besides the lovely video work, and drone footage, and the polished editing, I love the way Ed is able to infuse a lyrical and romantic tone to the overall flavour.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. My Mom was a Keeping from Sagona and my husband and I and our two young children made it there from Harbour Breton. We hitched a ride aboard Tiny Bubbles captained by Vince Snook who used to live on the island. Made the connection at Sunny Cottage as he was there playing the guitar for some folks from the care home as I recall. Amazing to visit the place I had heard so many stories about. Would love to go back on a visit to Newfoundland but it is a long drive to Harbour Breton and a long boat ride from Fortune! And iffy weather.

Such wonderful discovery for me! My dad was born in 1903 and grew up in Jersey Harbour. This is the first time I have ever seen Jersey Harbour and it was very exciting but also very moving for me. It is on my bucket list to visit some day, somehow. BTW, we have C&C32 which we sail on Lake Ontario... I could imagine your wonderful journey. Thank you!!!

It is an interesting place that was the centre for commerce for many years. Unfortunately, my drone stopped working while we were in Jersey Harbour, so I was disappointed I didn't get any drone shots! It is a very beautiful place and so many people came up to us when we were at anchor to have a chat. It was very touching.

What a magnificent video! Happy it showed up in my feed, and have subscribed. Your drone footage is worthy of Erik Aanderaa! And your material is well assembled, adding the historical images for a 'then and now' perspective is really valuable. One of my dreams is to spend a summer circumnavigating NL, it couldn't be anything other than fabulous. I'm clewing up a Day Skipper course, if you're looking for an extra hand any time, even a day sail in winter, I'm up for it. Greetings from Petty Harbour.

My partner and I had the good fortune to have business at Memorial University back in 2018. We took an extra couple of weeks to wander the southern part of the island. It is truly a magical place. The landscapes and coastlines spoke to our hearts in a way that was completely unexpected.
Our plan is to return this coming year or the next. There's so much to see and experience, and we know we barely touched the tip of it all. We won't likely get the chance to explore quite as closely as you have the opportunity to do, but we will still feel privileged to be able to visit such an extraordinary place.
We found the reference to your travel documentaries on the Land and Sea program. Thank you for sharing!
    Cheers Ed...
