      Thank you for sharing! Love to see more BTS editing processes, tips related content. Also, May I know do you store inspiration files? like those good references that you tend to use in your future project? Can you share it with us too?
      I'm using this tool called eagle where it's great for previewing all my footage assets, sound asset collection at different speeds with hovering, and make annotations on it. I find it very useful, you should try it too! en.eagle.cool

    The problem with placing all project files in the library is that the file path needs to remain in the motion templates folder in order to save animated features. I learned that the hard way. It's good to see that I'm not the only one moving so slowly towards better organization. Great tips here. Thanks.

      Loved the office setup and lighting. Great tips re: splitting up libraries and renaming those awful C001 Sony files. Have you found a good system for collaborating on actual FCP libraries?

    • @MarcWebster
      @MarcWebster  4 года назад +1

      Matt Scobel thanks man! We actually did this on this project. Basically cause we all had the same hard drives with the same file names. I was able to upload my library to Dropbox. Was about 2gb when all files were deleted. Then Brayden was able to open it up with no issues. Not a perfect system, but it worked!

    Marc...I really enjoyed this. I've always been confused about how to stay organized, as I'm a relative newbie to 'video' and FCPX, having come over from 'audio production', primarily. Pardon my naivety, but My question involves your response to someone else's question ("I always leave all my media in folders and never copy to library!") I'm not sure I understand? For me, I import all my media (audio and video) into mu project. Is that 'copying to the library'? I think it would be great to watch you do a video on starting a sort of sample project from scratch....from importing, saving, bouncing over to your H-D, etc. (in fact, my MacBook Pro is exhausting its hard drive space, and I'm sure it's because of my FCPX projects. I have plenty of external hard drives...I'm just not sure exactly how to utilize them efficiently.). Thanks, Marc!

    Hi! Two questions please:
    1) How can i use/access/browse video clips that are stored on an external disk? Most of my videos are stored on my internal disk, and my fcpx library is also created and stored internally. But I have many videos I want to be able to add to my timeline/project that are on an ext disk. So I want to be able to carry on working like I did (all internally), but also be able to browse/access the vids on my ext disk and drag them onto my project directly via fcpx so I can try them and see if I'll keep them in my project if I like them.
    2) If I do like them after I've added them to my project (directly from my ext disk), will the video clips (that I had dragged into my project) have automatically been saved into my - internally stored - fcpx project library? Meaning, if I then unplug the ext disk will fcpx still have the video clips in my project; or will I need to then copy the specific source files I liked into my internal disk so that fcpx will have them after I have unplugged the ext disk?
    Thanks!!! :)

    Ik this video is more related to final cut organization but I thought I would ask anyways. Do you create lightroom catalogs within each of your photo folders? Also ik Final Cut Pro automatically makes backups. Do you just store those locally on your MacBook or do you store them on the external hard drive your editing off. Thanks for the help!

    • @MarcWebster
      @MarcWebster  4 года назад

      I just use 1 catalog for all my photos unless there’s an event like a wedding with thousands of photos then I will have a separate one. I put a 2tb ssd in my computer so I keep all photos on my computer. Videos are all stored on hard drives

    To clarify for the majority of your projects do you copy the media to a library or leave it in folders or does it depend on the size of the project?
    Also, if you transfer your library directly to a hard drive then a month later want to edit it again, can you just transfer it back on your computer and open fcp and you can start editing?
    Thanks 😀(imma FCP X noob btw)

    • @MarcWebster
      @MarcWebster  4 года назад +1

      I always leave all my media in folders and never copy to library! I find it much easier to manage and see everything. And yes if I have to re-edit a project I will copy the folder back to my desktop, make my edits. When project is done move it back off!

    I would highly recommend deleting ALL render files, instead of UNUSED ONLY. Re-Rendering, in most scenarios won't be such a terrible hassle. Most projects we generally never re-open. So why waste all that precious hard drive space ;)!
