@pacmon5285 I've recently stopped watching NZ family. It's a shame cuz I enjoy their content but in my heart I can't support hypocrites. They built their channel reacting to other people's content and now that they're in a place to create their own they are not letting others react to their content. They've issued take down orders and even given one reactor a copyright strike. I just don't think it's right considering they react to other's content themselves...seems very hypocritical.

Keep in mind that 99.9% of Americans have never eaten at Terry Black's BBQ. The way these reaction videos are going, it won't be long before a higher percentage of Brits than Americans have eaten there.
To be fair I've been to Texas many times in the past and have not visited Terry Blacks, but others very worthy.
I've never heard of it. Kudos to the marketing guy behind this effort. Definitely looks good. Most all food I've ever eaten in Texas has been over-rated and a disappointment, though.
I lived in Texas for 12 years and never once went to Terry’s.
As a Texan; I feel the Dino ribs from Terry Black's is probably the best bite of meat I've ever had in my life.
I was in Texas in January 2024 in the Waco area and could not find a place that did the beef ribs. Terry Black's might be one of the few that offers a beef rib on a regular basis.
You go to Texas for BBQ, you go to New York for Bagels, you go to Chicago for Pizza, you go to Lousianna for sea food, you go to Milwaukee for Beer, you go to LA for traffic and a contact high 😂

Pretty much every state in the South and Southern midwest has its own version of barbecue, and rabid partisans for all of them.

As a Texan I've spent many years perfecting my BBQ.
I started when I was 17 and I'm still at it at 54. Nothing and no one does BBQ better than Texas!!
I love getting up before daylight and firing up the pitt to produce the best BBQ possible. I was on a cook off team for 4 years before I branched off on my own.
I stopped competing and now I do it for my own family and friends.
Nothing better than turning out top notch BBQ at the end of the day!!!

Interesting comments at 18. BBQ from Texas is ok, keeping in mind that Texas is one of several regions of BBQ in the US. Eastern NC, Western NC, TN, AL, GA, and Kansas are the other outstanding regions. Each region has the things it is known for, and none are "bad". Texas beef brisket, Kansas sliced beef, NC pulled pork, SC and TN ribs...... I'm hungry! I grew up on Eastern NC BBQ. Best known for pulled pork and chicken.... marinated in vinegar & spice-based marinade 12-24 hours then slow cooked for another 24 hours (minimum). Absolutely delicious. I grew up in a farming community, and we normally celebrated family or community events with whole hog BBQ. Rather than separating the various parts and cooking them separately, the hog was divided in two halves, marinated and cooked intact for up to two days. Typically served right off the smoker.
BBQ actually started in the US in North Carolina as a commercial product, as back in the late 1700's and early 1800's politicians wanted to get people to come to their political rallies. The people of the time often had bad teeth. What better way to please the citizens than to provide a meal where the meat, vegetables, and desert did not need to be chewed as it was all melt in your mouth.
Regardless of where you might go to try BBQ.... two rules. One is take the advice of the locals. Two..... always pick the place that looks like an old run-down building, not the new modern building unless it is highly recommended. Old pits at old buildings with people who have been cooking for decades are usually better.
LOL. The scarier the building looks, the longer the line and the better the BBQ. The best pulled pork sandwich I ever had was purchased in an ancient brick gas station outside Greenville, NC.
I was just in Waco, TX and a Terry Black's just opened up about a block from my hotel. There is nothing quite as much fun as eating a beef rib! EVERYTHING was delicious! It made my local BBQ place seem amateurish. It's 100% worth a visit. 18 - This doesn't mean you aren't a crazy guy in Portugal watching videos.
I live in Waco. Some friends went there and got three ribs, two sides, and two sweet teas and said it was $150. Ouch. Maybe one day but until then it’s Jaspers for me or bunkhouse in Clifton. Hope you enjoyed your stay.

As someone in Austin..please just use your hands..you don't need the utensils except for the sides. Yes BBQ is very expensive now so just be prepared. The outer layer is a mix of salt, pepper and sometimes garlic powder then just a long time in a woodfired smoker.

You forgot the binder that goes on first, something like mustard or beef broth. Or whatever else you like.
It's not actually burned. And did you notice they're using plastic utensils? Turkey prepared our way is not dry. 18. The sauce is referred to as dipping sauce, so you're not drowning the meat on the platter. Vanilla ice cream on hot cobbler is definitely a pro move.
I REALLY don't like mixing ice cream and baked goods.

Just an fyi. Kansas City, Missouri has more bbq restaurants per capita than any city in America and we think ours is pretty damn good too. Nothing against Texas but there are several great bbq cities in America, all different styles.
Minnesotan here. Kansas City (city) sucks, food is great! I don't like Murderapolis here either. I prefer BBQ sauce with my ribs but Texas ribs does is right too. We can comprimise Minnesota is on top of both of you!
As a misplaced Texan in KCMO, I've been highly disappointed in KC BBQ. Arthur Bryant's and Gates are incredibly overhyped. Q39 & Jack Stack are overpriced. Slaps & Hawg Jaw were okay. Have yet to have any decent smoked sausage here. I had better BBQ in Lawrence, KS, and in Oklahoma (and that's a place where they call smoked bologna BBQ). KC BBQ is all about the sauce. You shouldn't have to hide the flavor of the meat with a sauce - that's all I'm sayin'.
Texas BBQ is great but it gets overhyped like the rest of oversized Texas 😂
Carolina BBQ is pretty choice too 😋

18, you're not alone--I'm from Missouri, watching a guy from Portugal watching a couple from Britain eat BBQ in Texas. The internet is a beautiful (and weird!) thing.... LOL! I do like BBQ sauce on mine, but if it's smoked and seasoned well, it really doesn't need it.
Agreed! It's not BBQ if you don't put BBQ sauce on it. Otherwise, it's just smoked meat.
Remember you have paid for the meat and for the rest of the meal. It is yours if you please to take it home and eat the rest of it. That's up to you.

Super Easy Peach Cobbler: Bake at 350 f. for 50 minutes in 13 X 9" pan.
Ingredients:
1 stick butter
1 cup self rising flour
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 large can (28 or 29 oz) of peaches in heavy syrup
1 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
cinnamon & sugar mix for topping

18... During my first pregnancy, I craved banana pudding, lol. I went through an entire casserole sized dish of it every 2 days. I've had barbecue all throughout the South, and I think Texas has the best, with North Carolina coming in second. It's all good, though!
You should try to make banana pudding. You have the ingredients: vanilla pudding (powder mix or premade), over ripe bananas (the mushier the better), and a vanilla cookie like maybe bolachas? Just layer the bananas, pudding, cookies, bananas, pudding, cookies until you get to the top. Allow that to chill in the fridge for several hours or overnight. Top with whipped cream if you like and more cookies. The trick is to get the bananas to release their flavor into the vanilla pudding, so mushy bananas, and chill time. Boom. You've made banana pudding.
No tipping at Terry Blacks! No servers, no need to tip! : )

18. I live in Texas and watching these videos makes me realize how much I take for granted here. We have our problems but good food isn't one of them.
You never want to definitively say what the best BBQ is. There are four major styles of BBQ Texas, Memphis, Kansas City and Carolina. You should never make up your mind on the best style but instead continue to compare all four for the rest of your life. The never ending debate will bring you gastronomic joy. Life, and BBQ, is not a problem to be solved. It is a process to relish. (hehe relish. See what I did there?)
Andre, our friend above is right. All regional styles of BBQ are good. Each is different. There is no such thing as a best state/region for BBQ; they are all good eats. (And this is a naturalized-Texan speaking.) Even in Texas, there are various styles. You'll just have to come to the US many times and eat all over the country -- especially the South and Southwest.
The best turkey is brined overnight and then seasoned properly. You can even stuff some butter and herbs under the skin, inject it, yum! There is nothing that compares to a perfectly cooked and seasoned turkey!

Native Texan here, and the magic that most BBQ places (and the rest of us) use on any type of poultry (Turkey, Chicken, etc.) is they do a salt water brine with some seasonings and submerge the entire bird. Depending on how they salt the brine, and the flavors, the time submerged will vary. Then they inject the meat with some flavors and seasoning that they like. Then they cover the outside skin and sometimes partially inside of the turkey. Then they use their preferred wood, and watch the heat and fire; that’s the magic.
100% agree. Texan here as well but a cook, and as a cook, you have to brine poultry to get flavor to the bone. Add slow smoke on top and its MONEY! I find all of these videos funny because no matter what country they live in, they could simply replicate the process and produce pretty damn good brisket and ribs. They do not have to fly 5000 miles to try it. Go to youtube University and cook some in Europe.
11:35. Moist Turkey is not just exclusive to Texas Andre. Americans know how to moisten and season meat in general. But Texas does take it to another level.
Every Thanksgiving, millions of turkeys are cooked all over the US and they're probably all better than the best he's had.
I agree that the best BBQ is in Texas, but that doesn't mean that every place that sells it is at another level. Some outlets are no better than in other states. Plus I would never turn down a chance at BBQ in Kansas and Nebraska.

that vanilla ice cream, is most likely "blue bell", almost all of the famous smoke houses serve blue bell. Which is something to experience when visiting, its produced in a small town in Breham texas. it is probably the best ice cream (store bought) that you can buy in texas.

I almost always watch to the end, 18. I’m from North Carolina and barbecue here is very different, it’s mostly pork, we raise a lot of pigs. We have different styles of barbecue and it’s usually eaten with vinegar slaw. Peach cobbler is my choice for dessert, I love it.

18 All the BBQ styles across the U.S. are delicious. An important factor that makes Texas BBQ so good is the quality of the grass-fed beef. Most U.S. cows are forced to eat unnatural diets made from corn and soy, which fattens them quickly but affects the taste of the beef.
Also, there are multiple places just as good as Terry Black's. Heck, you find the right back yard and you'll have brisket just as good.
I'm pescetarian (eat fish/seafood), but your reactions and yearning for the food is still worth a watch...18😊

I live in Texas. Never been to Terry Blacks but I used to work at a small bbq restaurant in high school just outside Ft. Worth. They had some pretty darn good bbq. Unfortunately they closed a long time ago. I used to help cook beans and bbq sauce in the electric vat, rub the seasoning on the meat, make sides, etc.
Ate my Dad's brisket until he passed in 2015 and still haven't found brisket to touch it yet.
That ice cream is probably Blue Bell which is made here in Texas.
Almost 40 years ago, I was doing Texas style ribs in the backwoods of North Carolina before I knew it was a thing.
The leaner part is called the flat and the fattier part is called the point. It's the thicker part of the brisket and it tends to be the best part in my opinion!
18 my friend! A lot of people react to this place for BBQ. Nothing wrong there of course, but a lot of different areas have their own version of BBQ and all are equally amazing! Just don't mention how one area is better than another unless you are wanting to start a fight! If you are in Kansas City, you will find they are proud of their version, as well as Texas bbq, Oklahoma BBQ, Tennessee BBQ...ect.

You really should look up the history of BBQ in America, and especially the brisket. It's hard to believe that meat cuts that we considered to be trash in the day, and now some of the best eats you can have.

Native Texan here! This weekend we went to the Original Black’s! Had a great time there and bummed around Lockhart. Then we bought sausages from Smitty’s. It was all good!
Smitty’s is my favorite. You can’t go wrong with any of the big three in Lockhart.

I don"t eat meat, but like seeing people discover & enjoy new things
I have had BBQ from New England to Central California down to Texas. Each region has its own distinct spin on BBQ. Probably my favorite is dead stand smoked Mountain Mahogany brisket and ribs that comes out of the Central and Eastern Sierra Nevada. The key is "dead stand" and the hardwood is so difficult to obtain that you have to use a handsaw or a hatchet because it will eat the teeth off of a chain while smoking the oil. That ruins the quality by itself. I was lucky enough to have my own dead stand to try it out on a Texas sized Smoker Charcoal grill. The grass finished beef tastes like heaven and only a few places have it. Only one worthy of mention for ready to eat meats is in Bishop, California "Mahogany Smoked Meats" established in 1922. A dead stand of Curl Leaf Mountain Mahogany can be as old as 1,600 years. A truly ancient wood for an ancient human tradition.

Our eldest son (will be 40 in the fall) is well known for his excellent BBQ,
He has about 4 or 5 different BBQ's.
He has been perfecting his technique since he was separated (I think that is the correct term?) from the Submarine Service in the US Navy.
His next (& last) posting was at Pearl Harbor, in Hawahii.
He progressed to using a smoker -- gift from his wonderful father-in-law.
Has smoked many briskets since then -- almost 10 years ago.
I don't eat meat anymore -- long story, but 1 day, I couldn"t even think about eating meat. Grew up poor -- the US version. Very seldom had meat growing up.
So, our son finds a beautiful, large fresh salmon fillet. Prepares it -- he showed me how -- then smokes it.
I've NEVER had better.

It's funny seeing folks from NC and KC begging for their bbq to be relevant compared to Tx. There is no comparison. Tx actually knows how to smoke their meats properly to give it flavor, not drown it in sauce because we don't know how to smoke a meat properly. Go ahead and keep your inferior sauce covered meat😂😂 haha
The thing about Texas food is so many influences. We were Spanish colony with French colony next door. The natives had their own from which Tex Mex derived. Then around the time of Texas Independence a lot of German Catholics came here. They started with a Spanish land Grant. From N of Houston to San Antonio the Germans settled. They brought sausage. After them Poles Czechs and Slovaks came. This brought more types of sausage and pastries. So we have schnitzel evolving to Chicken Fried Steak and German and Mexican sausages mixing. The Spanish started the cattle ranches. Louisiana attracted French Caribbean people so we got a huge melting pot of cuisine there. Add 600 miles of coastline for seafood.
In the late 1980's, I'd travel to Texas 4 times a year for work. I stayed at the Crockett Hotel overlooking the Alamo in San Antonio, and had the absolute best fajitas in the world. I'd take a pitcher of Margaritas to the rooftop Jacuzzi after work and would enjoy my food and drink... I can't wait to go back!!!
18. I'm in Chicago and I smoke a turkey every year on my charcoal grill, you have to spatchcock the turkey (cut out the backbone and lay the turkey flat) and then it cooks a lot faster and it's not so dry. And it has this great smokey flavor.
Here is the thing about bbq and pretty much anything else you can eat. Home cooked will always beat restaurant. Now before anyone gets angry let me explain. It does not matter what the type of food is let’s say burgers, a restaurant burger will never be as good as someone who knows how to cook, goes to the store, get fresh ingredients and cooks their homemade burger. The care and attention to detail that goes into making that meal will surpass anyone cooking for a large number of people.
This philosophy cemented itself for me when I went to Italy for a few years. The room I rented from an Italian woman cooked for me real Italian food, yes I went to restaurants and tried all different places but that woman spent all day cooking her sauce and it was the absolute best Italian food I ever had. So if you want the best bbq you gotta find some good ole boy in Texas or wherever that loves cooking bbq and that will probably be the best bbq you ever have because it part of their culture and heritage. I live in Arizona and there's a lot of Texas BBQ here. I have a Caldwell County just up the road. Europeans wouldn't believe the testament to 'Merica that joint is. Top notch BBQ, go cart tracks, massive zip line with a car dealership sized American flag on top, the biggest TV you'll ever see, a putting course, botanical garden, Rodeo Arena (and more!) all in the same setting. The Parking lot is about the size of a Wal-Mart parking lot, no exaggeration.

as a natural born texan, i'm gonna say that chefs spend a lifetime working on their sauces, including bbq sauces.
properly-cooked meat doesn't NEED barbecue sauce in order to be amazing, true enough. perfectly-cooked apple pie doesn't NEED vanilla ice cream to be amazing, either, but the combination is "outstanding" 😃

Andre, The key to making juicy turkey the Texas way, is to season it the way you normally would and place it in the pan UPSIDE DOWN with a stick of butter inside, that way the butter melts into the meat. Cook it low and slow. It's the absolute best turkey I,ve ever had.

I learned how to cook brisket and ribs in Texas while I was stationed there. I now live in Vegas, when I smoke brisket here people fall in love with the taste of Texas.
Andre, I'm a native Texan, we do the best BBQ beef. Other states do pork ribs & pork, but all Americans love their BBQ. Remember Texas is about the beef.😅
It's not burnt. It is the smoke and the carmelization of the the meat and spices which turns it a black color. The meat never touches flames. These smokers are basically wood fired ovens (offset fire box) and they cook around 250-275F.
While Terry Blacks is one of the best in Texas, you need to be within driving distance of Austin to enjoy it.
But thankfully, every city/town in Texas will have one or two BBQ restaurants and each one will have an experienced pitmaster that can produce food that will knock your socks off.
Terry Black's is also in Dallas, Waco, Lockhart. They're planning a huge one in Fort Worth, too. 😀
West Odessa Texas here... burnt ends are the best shit ever... that's like 100 bucks of meat and about 8 hours of over night cooking 👍🏼
BBQ is an expansive culinary realm. Different regions of the US have varying techniques, spice blends, sauces, etc. Texas BBQ is only one of many, and only trying the one style doesn't allow you to experience the infinite variety. Try them all, every chance you get. That being said, Terry Blacks does have the best jalapeno cheese sausage I've ever experienced!

"Brisket" is a cut of beef. That was brisket that they were eating with the black crust (bark like a tree bark) on the outside. And the beans are only beans with brisket, no rice
