Fun fact, the events of _Sonic Adventure_ were actually hinted towards all the way back in the SEGA Genesis games' Japanese Manuals.
To put it bluntly, the Japanese manual for _Sonic the Hedgehog 2_ hints that an ancient civilization once fell for abusing the powers of the Chaos Emeralds.
Then, in _Sonic the Hedgehog 3,_ Knuckles mistakes the crashed Death Egg for the egg of a "legendary dragon," leaving him susceptible to Eggman's lies.
Yeah, this franchise always has a ton of Japanese-to-English translation and localization issues. I heavily recommend installing a Japanese Re-Translation Mod for your play-through of _Sonic Adventure 2_ for a better grasp of the story. (As well as a Cutscene Fix Mod.)
At the end of the day, thank you for playing one of my favorite games! It may not be perfect, but I still love _Sonic Adventure_ for being a turning point in the series that helped push the franchise forward! And I feel like the finale where Sonic begs Tikal to not seal Chaos in the Master Emerald again because in doing so, Chaos would never be free from his eternal anguish, is one of the highest points of Sonic's character.
(Also, I would love to see you check out _Freedom Planet_ and its sequel! Those games are a perfect mix of the speed of _Sonic,_ plus the combat of _Gunstar Heroes._ The main character of _FP,_ Lilac the Dragon, is even voiced by Dawn M. Bennett, the current VA of Nabbit!)

When you think about it Chaos is one of Sonic's most dangerous foes since he's entirely made out of water. Can't wait for Adventure 2, it really is one of the best in the franchise. Peak story, two iconic new characters, and fun gameplay.

I agree that SA2’s story is great, but so are the stories in Unleashed and Black Knight. Those two games can also compete for the title of “Best Sonic Story” imo
SA2 introduces Project Shadow, which I feel more people need to learn the lore of, since there's more of Shadow's backstory and connections to other characters in the series found in future games. Chaomix has videos that cover the topic. It's pretty cool.

Sonic Adventure Story Explained:
Before all of this, there was once a great Echidna tribe, ran by Tikal’s grandmother. The tribe was peaceful and lived well. This all changed when Tikal’s father became the new leader, also known as Chief Pachacamac. Chief Pachacamac started out ruling like his mother, living in peace, and not starting war, later on he became power hungry, he conquered other tribes, grew his land, and lived in war. Chief Pachacamac soon found the Chaos Emeralds, he realized it’s power and what it could do, so he used his army to invade it’s protector’s, the Chao. As the Echidna Tribe fought on, 1 Chao went to the Master Emerald, wanting to stop the chaos, and with the power of the Emeralds, mutated into Chaos to seek revenge on the Echidnas. Chaos was so strong that he ended up destroying the entire tribe, leaving Tikal to seal him in the Master Emerald herself, sacrificing herself in the process.
At the beginning of Knuckles’ story, we see the Master Emerald break, releasing Chaos and Tikal from the Master Emerald, this led to the events from each story unfold, starting with Knuckles’ story, and ending with The Final Story, where Chaos is finally put to rest.
I never thought that Chaos is one of the chao. I thought it just... a guardian inside the emerald

So the next game in the series is my favorite game of all time, I hope it doesn't give you a hard time. I don't want to overhype it because it definitely has flaws and is NOT beginner friendly, there are some mechanics that the game poorly teaches but it is a really fun game if you can look past them.
Also will you play the original SA2 or SA2 Battle?
most likely Battle with some qol mods, he should definitely get the mod with the og Dreamcast models and ambient lighting
@@AltKaxREAL Yeah I would recommend the original if he wants to know the story because the original tells it better and also has better models, lighting and overall more consistency with the cutscenes, SA2B only really adds to the side modes and mini games which he most likely won't play since he's on a journey to play every single mainline Sonic game.
I will be playing SA2 Battle with some mods to make it look and play more like the Dreamcast release. That's pretty much how I played SA1 here. In fact, what you saw me play was the Steam SADX release with mods. I also installed a mod change the intro to not include the "Battle" text.

So this is how every game until Sonic Unleashed is going to work. Multiple stories, each with their own endings. Completing them all unlocks the final story which takes place after all of the other stories and is the game's true ending. Adventure, Adventure 2, Heroes, Shadow, and 06 all basically follow this. Shadow is a little different, as instead of multiple stories that all take place at the same time, it's a choose your path scenario with 10 alternate endings. But all of those endings are basically non-canon "what if" scenarios, and the final story that unlocks after you obtain the other ten endings is the true canon ending.
So, here's some important info that the game doesn't tell you about: Chaos isn't a "god of destruction" like Eggman says. In fact, he's just a mutated chao that was affected by the power of the emeralds and got turned into a water monster. After that he started protecting his chao friends from danger.
BTW in SA2 Knuckles has a power up in aquatic mine level called "air necklace" that without it, the final level in the game is a nightmare to beat, so keep an eye out for it!

hope you enjoy SA2 big dog, that was the first game i ever played (or maybe second, i always get mixed up on whether SA2 or mega man x were my first lol). it's pretty tough and the new mechanics will feel wonky at first, but once you get used to it you really feel like you're just in a constant flow state, and it introduces my favorite character in the franchise. top tier in my book 💪
When you start Sonic Adventure 2 there are only 2 Stories Hero and Dark with a third being unlocked after you finish Both. It’s best to start with Hero and Finish with Dark. You’ll get full context for the game by going in that order
@@ProfCypress I've played that game so I know that playing the Dark Story first will help anyone get full context, I'm surprised that you said that the playing the Hero Story first will be the best choice, it isn't.

I enjoyed the characters of this game(yes, I even enjoy the character of big the cat).
This game was fun to see for the first time to learn why people love Sonic Adventure( I've never seen this game before his playthrough).
Yes, you're pretty much right, Tikal became a "ghost"/"spirit" when she sealed herself inside the Master Emerald alongside Chaos 3000 years ago
When Pachacamac and the other members of the Knuckles Clan attacked the Chao, making Chaos Angry and making him consume the energy of the 7 Chaos Emeralds which were in the Master Emerald altar, transforming him into Perfect Chaos and wiping out the entire echidna clan, Tikal saw as a desperate last attempt to beg to the Master Emerald to seal herself and Chaos inside of the Master Emerald, so Chaos couldn't do anymore harm to the world and destroy everything in anger and sadness, not only that but that's actually the ORIGIN of Angel Island
Before Tikal sealed herself inside the Master Emerald, the part where today is Angel Island was just another part of the Mystic Ruins, but when Tikal asked the Master Emerald to seal her and Chaos in the Master Emerald, the power was so strong that a good chunk of the Mystic Ruins was pulled from the ground and became what Angel Island is today as we see in many games like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 3, etc.
And not only Angel Island started floating, but that was the first time the Chaos Emeralds were scattered around the world, before that point, they were always all togheter, especially in the Master Emerald shrine, that's how Chaos had acess to all of them, but when Tikal sealed her the Emeralds started flying to all directions of the world and that's why in all games the emeralds are always found along the way in random parts of the planet, and once someone use their power they get scattered around again, and that's how during the events of the first game the Emeralds were all scattered around South Island where Sonic 1 takes place, Special Stages aren't part of the story but simply mechanics from the games, especially currently, so imagine that instead of being in Special Stages they just lay around in the grass or places like that
Back to Chaos, when the Master Emerald broke in the present time at the start of SA1 by a lightning strike, Chaos was out still filled with anger and hatred and by getting all the Chaos Emeralds, now scattered around the world and not all in the same location as it was in the past, he slowly got into Perfect Chaos again and started to destroy everything, at the end of the game, Sonic didn't want to just seal it again and keeps Chaos angry inside of the Master Emerald, the cycle could repeat itself in the future, so Sonic uses the Chaos Emeralds to neutralize Chaos so he could be peaceful again, as you see in the end of the game when he see the Chao are alright and living happily alongside humans and other antrophomorphic animals, and that keeps on being true after this game as you'll see in other games since Chao became such important and beloved creatures in the series as I said in another video of the Sonic Adventure saga, in the GBA games there is a character who has a Chao as a pet, we have Chao rescue missions in Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Unleashed and we'll have more of that in Sonic x Shadow Generations, we have the Chao Garden in this game and in SA2, and much more Chao living alongside the characters and being loved (unless you're a monster and beat them up in the Chao Garden).

Fun fact: the extra people cheering sonics name during the cutscene before the final boss was apparently recorded from a bunch of fans who gathered outside around the sega offices during development to show their love for Sonic. I dont know the validity to this claim, but if its true, its a very wholesome story

SA2 Battle is not that broken as SADX but I'd recommend at least to put a cutscene revamp mod. This mod fixes the cutscenes, mainly the objects and their transparency.
Also, beware. Despite SA2 considered to be the greatest Sonic game of all time, it does have a much higher learning curve than SA1. Just remember to pay attention otherwise you might not be able to enjoy the game. I saw a bunch of people who stopped their marathon on this game or simply suffered and didn't have a good time bc they didn't want to learn or pay attention. This game can be much harder in certain aspects. Just keep that in mind.
I definitely modded SA2 a bunch to have it look and play closer to the Dreamcast by quite a bit. I already recorded episode 1 of SA2 and explained the mods that I installed :^)
Also if anything, I think suffering through Sonic 1-3 mentally prepped me for any learning curves for future Sonic games. We'll see!

Warning for SA2: Knuckles has a stage called Aquatic Mine. DO NOT complete the stage until you find the air necklace power up. It is technically an optional power up, but if you don’t get it, the last level in the game will be an awful experience.

Great job dude! Loved this series, can't wait for sa2. Fair warning - its tougher than the first, the mechanics are ironed out but they also ask a lot more from you. It also introduces ranking system, and it doesnt just reward being fast but also knowing the mechanics and interacting with the level. So dont be discouraged from bad ranking

tails' voice actor in sa2 is the brother of the sa1 voice actor because the sa1 voice actor went through puberty

When you start playing Sonic Adventure 2 play the Dark Story first if you want to get full context because what happens before the beginning cutscene of the Hero Story gets revealed at the begginig of the Dark Story!!!! The person who says that you'll get full context if you play the Hero Story first isn't giving you the right info, don't believe that person!!!!!
imo trying to figure out motivations of the dark characters in the hero story is way more fun than starting w dark cus u basically know Light characters' motivations since they're... well... good
so even if starting w dark gives more context, it'd be less fun.. just my opinion

Make sure to remember all the tips and suggestions people are giving in the comments to ensure you have the best experience possible!
(Learn and practice the game mechanics, which are given when you grab Omochao in the levels. Search each level thoroughly for character upgrades like SA1. You can play either Hero or Dark story first, but Dark gives more context. Make sure to install mods that provide quality of life changes like Knuckles's radar, the sound mixing, etc)
The blue borders showed up because the fmvs are in 4:3, while the rest of the game is in widescreen. So the game has to fill in the rest of screen with something, though the borders showing up seems to be a recent update to the SADX Mod Loader.
Edit: You can disable the border with the "disable border image" option in the SA Mod Manager.
The thing is that the border was never there when I started recorded this game. It only started to appear after I updated the Mod Manager
From beginning to end, Sonic adventure is one of my favorite games of all time: so much so that it's actually inspired my writing 📘
To me, it is the perfect blend of 90s shonen anime and 2000s edge 🤩

I know it seems like Chaos got mad at the echidnas in a un proportionated way, but if you explore the past, some NPCs will give you more context:
Pachacamac has been leading a war, conquering, stealing and killing other tribes. Them raiding the Emerald Altar was just the last straw
In one video, You said lives are outdated even in 2D Mario. I disagree. In this era, lives act as a skill check that guarantees no one would beat the game unless they were truly a master.
In 3D games that are 40 hours long, unlimited lives make sense. But in 2D games that are 30-40 minutes long, unlimited lives would mean everyone would beat those games on their first try.
In 40 hour games, unlimited lives make sense. But in short games with only a few short levels, these games are like a gauntlet. The only alternative is to make checkpoints strict. Thats why short, 30 minute 2D games have lives. In that 1990s,era. You did beat the 2D Sonic games faster than most of us,who has genesis(beating a game was considered a rare accomplishment to brag about in that era.) But its just to show how those 30 minute retro games were designed to last a long time with 90s gamers before they beat it
14:38 talk about a close call you beat perfect chaos with 2 rings left, similar to other sonic games, you run out of rings Sonic reverts. Almost had to redo that fight.

A tip for the next adventure game. You can enable in the mod loader, if I remember correctly, a "fix" for knuckles' emerald tracker so it works like in adventure 1. Its not needed but it makes it a lot easier ! 😼👍
I noticed that when researching how to improve my SA2 game and decided to add the mod that makes the tracker act like SA1.
