    I had this exact model back in the day. I used to jump waves in Hawaii and one time I hit one head on at full speed. I flew so high in the air that the 15 ft deep reef looked like it was right under the surface. I was afraid to dive in and ended up knocking the wind out of myself by landing on my side. The canopy hinge snapped when it landed too. Another jet skier came over and said it was the craziest thing he had ever seen. Man those where the days.

      This is epic, wave jumping is so much fun but also really easy to get caught out, I now always wear a helmet after once coming down and smashing my face on the handle bars…you only make the mistake once…still you now have an epic story dude, thanks for sharing and thank you for watching 🙏

      @@classicjetskis That jet ski has a very shallow hull. It slams with every ripple in the water. At full speed it felt like you were barely in control. A helmet is probably a good idea.

      @@joeblowRC51 To be fair your summary is pretty bang on lol, I find the raider a unpredictable beast...every time I have taken it to the lake and raced around Buoys, I can never find a consistent rhythm with cornering as the behaviour is so varied based on the smallest differences in ripple like you say... I just love how fast it is though!!

      @@classicjetskis The quick pitch adjustment and leaning into the turns made that thing unmatchable in maneuvering. I would literally hang off of it like I was on a sportbike in long turns and adjust the pitch on the fly in tighter turns. Once you get the hang of it, you will find it's actually more stable than you think.

    Remember at 12 learning on this ski! They rip!! So much fun and kinda off balance with two riders but made it fun. Today skis are mini boats. No skill needed and boost turbo or supercharger is needed just to keep up with the 25 year old 2 stroke smaller skis 🤙

      Spoken like a guy that knows... I still to this day think the 1100 Raider is a rocket and holds its own. As you say the raider takes skill to ride fast and yeh for sure 2up is a different story... I have been thrown with a buddy more than one time... Love it, thanks for watching and glad I sparked some nostalgia of your younger days...

    Mate, funny story. Years ago, my friends and I rented skis in Thailand on holiday and it was a very old, cruddy Waveraider (faded stickers, bad paint) and it just ran like shit. We ended up getting scammed $600 (lesson to avoid ever renting skis in Thailand - classic racket) - however since that time, I always looked at the Waveraider as that junky, trashy ski no one liked. After seeing this one and how gorgeous they actually look when found in such clean condition, I actually really want one!! I had 2 WB 2's (have since moved on with RXTs) but I never completely appreciated them as machines and now, am completely on the hunt for a barn condition one. Love the channel, extremely well put together and I don't doubt it will only be a bit more time and it will blow up - just need the awareness to let people know it exists!

      Man this story sounds like a nightmare but have seen RUclips videos on these scams they run!
      TBF with any ski when you see them beat up, they can look like junk but a pristine ski like this is just a joy to see. This Raider still only has 69 hours on it and clean as you will find. Sadly with having so many other skis, its doesn't get rode as much as I want but I do love it, such a quick ski even to this day!
      I have a B2, not sure if you have seen that series on my channel, thats another clean one! Love the B2s but my fav at the mo is the X4 1995 XP... Think this may get topped by the HX i'm restoring at the mo...
      My dad has a RXT and loves it, those ST3 hulls cut through the chop super well!
      Thanks re the channel growing, its growing nicely and as you say hopefully in time its blows up more... My spark vs XP video has just smashed through 40k views which is epic!
      Thanks for watching dude 💪👌

    I have a few tips for you to keep in mind. I’ve been in the industry for over 20 years now and a lot has changed. Just like the new stuff, certain things happens to the older machines. Then there’s age stuff that needs to be looked at. With any older ski, especially a ski like the 1100 or 1200cc platforms, check those engine mounts. There’s a lot of weight on those rubber pieces. The 1100 & 1200npv engines were pretty stout along with the 2 cylinders. But… just like the 2 cylinders the 3 cylinders have the same issue with age. Check and replace the oil lines from the oil pump. The oil pumps hardly go bad unlike what a lot of people say. If you run the correct oil through then you’ll be fine. Recommend Yamaha 2m or 2w. 2w was made for the 1200pv engines with the catylist. It has a ingredient in it that helped with the cat from being clogged. But before that 2m was the only available oil from Yamaha for the 2 strokes. But getting back to the lines. They get hard and brittle and the also shrink. When the do these things they have a tendency to pull off the carbs, then you have no lubricant and you seize up. The check valves are usually fine also. But when ordering the lines order the longer ones for all then cut to fit if needed. I believe Yamaha started to only send the longer ones in the packages.
    The fuel lines from Yamaha are really good. Usually can get away with carb cleaner and an air hose. The seadoos, that’s a different story. There may be some still with the grey tempo lines. Get rid of and replace with new. Those lines fell apart even before ethanol was introduced. The Seadoo oil lines same thing. Keep an eye on them.
    From experience when riding the raider, be careful at high speeds with some chop. Especially if your standing up. With the extra weight of the 1100cc up front it will make the nose grab the water and turn and usually the rider will keep going straight. But the raiders were fun great skis. 700 1&2 carb, 760 & 1100.

      Dude, first of all thank you for stopping by and watching the video. Your insight is super helpful and will ensure I look at all the points you mentioned. Its really tricky as my heart set out to truly embrace these skis as practical classics, as in use them, not just be super precious and not do all the things I really want to do. I know wave jumping isn't ideal on any skis but especially an old 2 stroke with a front heavy lump of an engine. Luckily I have 5 classics so with maintaining them all lol and alternate riding to try avoid constant usage of one of them. I actually experienced what you're explaining with the front aggressively ripping to one side at high speed, it threw me no kidding what felt like a mile in the air and I thought when I hit the water I'd broke my back. I must admit this is the one aspect I'm not a fan of, with my XPDI I can plant it and cut through the chop with confidence, plus corner it with confidence. In my opinion the wave raider is just an raw power house, when its calm it just rips so well.. I was racing a 1500 stand up and It holds it's own easily, even until this day. Thanks for watching the videos dude, are you UK or US?

    You really want rto see what this ski can do? Throw away those covers on the carbs get some flame arrestors. They are the single air cleaner stacks on each carb. Then get a ride plate from Riva, an intake grate from Work racing and some sponsons from either work or riva.. Finally yank that oil injection pump out of the ski and cap it and just premix your fuel so you don't blow the motor up when the oil pump decides to stop working.. you are welcome.

      Thanks for the suggestion dude, all of which would for sure be performance improvements however I’m strictly OEM man, my passion is OEM not aftermarket.
      Thanks for watching dude 👌🏻

    • @bcxaz
      @bcxaz 2 года назад +1

      @@classicjetskis Actually the things I suggested are not mechanical in nature at all. A flame arrestor just allows more air in to the carbs which if you understood and knew the engineers who design such things you would know that the original design of a carb has no large air cleaner on it at all. The carb is to allow the most air and fuel mixture inin order to run as designed or OEM as you call it. but keep thinking they design for performance and not because of regulation all you llike. I suggest looking into design elements of jet skis you will see things are put on skis at the manufacturing level knowing they are not the best performing but are done to keep the cost down overall so the OEM idea is what you do as a beginner but if you want to ride a ski which is running the way it wasa designed to do you will see that the smal;l changes I suggested are only to bring the ski up to the what it iwas designed to do. I do not suggest any machine elements to the motor or replacing any element of the motor at all. That is exptreme performance and is not what the ski was designedx to do .

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis  2 года назад +2

      @@bcxaz Understood, I get what you’re saying and you make a fair point, I will take a look at your suggestion around the carb... It was just because your suggestion was to change a ride plate, sponsons, intake gate, all of which are takes on aftermarket improvements, all of which are not necessary to maintain a healthy ski, with a focus on extending the jetskis life span. The ski has run beautifully since 1996 on the original manufacture set up, so doesn’t feel like a huge point of contention. I will however look into your suggestion to see the pros and cons... Do you see this as an after the fact mod that even the manufacture agrees with or is this a community lead suggestion which has bias one way or the other. Like for example taking out the oil pump, which for me personally destroys the whole concept of maintaining OEM. If the pump is checked regularly, I think it’s a massive over kill to jump to premix....again see the rational but all of my classics have the pump still present and all run sweet....Living life with the prospective fear of failure isn’t the way I tend to look at the running of these skis...Otherwise to be fair, you wouldn’t buy these old skis in the first place....Thanks for stopping by the channel...You are also correct I am a beginner in the grand scheme so thanks for the input...

      For years, I had a 94 (purple hull) 701 and a 96 1100. The 1100 had a Primer Kit (requiring re-jetting the 38mm Mikuni’s. Ocean Pro flame arrestors, Solas I, ProTec ride plate, and modified intake grate. Those mods made it deadly on glass. The lighter 701 had every bolt-on mod you could think of, incl aftermarket pipe. It would leave the 1100 behind in chop. Those were good times!
