      Most soda is very corrosive and you can dissolve the outside of a can by putting it into a container with the soda (so the soda is touching the outside). It is unlikely that a can would last long enough to be shipped to a store, let alone make it to your fridge before the can dissolves enough to leak soda everywhere. The lack of metallic taste is just a great side effect.

    • @IkonikProduction
      @IkonikProduction 5 лет назад +14

      Yes, the carbonation actually rests on the sides rather than the top. Which is why tapping the sides releases the carbonation, and the top does not work.

      Yea I was thinking the same thing - tapping the top doesn't do diddly as the rim absorbs the energy. You gotta tap the side to create a resonant vibration to release the carbonation.

    I think it was the pressure of the carbonation that held the shape in the original video. You can probably bend the tab up slightly without breaking the seal.

    • @3zdayz
      @3zdayz 5 лет назад

      Right; the tapping is to break the ubbbles at the top so you can crack it slowly without the bubbles leaking out the air vent. If you just brute force the pressure release there' no difference... but without bubbles, you can crack it and let the pressure out slowly without it spurting.

      If you hit the can on the side or the top the soda will get shaken up a bit, which can lead to a higher risk of the soda erupting if you are not careful.

    • @streamware7746
      @streamware7746 5 лет назад +13

      When you shake the soda, what happens is that the carbonation within the liquid loosens up, and the rapid depressurization of the soda can causes a chain reaction which you observe it as a eruption.
      When you tap the top of the soda can it causes the loose carbonation to surface and prevents the chain reaction from occuring in the first place.
      The test as shown in the video wasnt very scientific

    The best way to do the "tapping" on the soda can is to tap the sides. What you're trying to do is release the bubbles attached to the side of the walls, because when those bubbles rush to the top they pull soda up with it. If you get the bubbles to the top they will just expand and pop harmlessly. Tapping the sides all around the can will make them release and float. Steve Spangler did a video on this showing the science and the effectiveness.
