I talk to the people
That lie beneath these stones
Imaginin’ they listen
Makes me feel less alone
I pick up the broken flowers
Sometimes I dig a hole
To welcome in the new ones
Introduce ‘em to the old
Well I can use a chisel
And a polisher the same
I’ll put anything you’d like
To say under a name
And I’ll put on my suit
Make sure my tie is straight
Lend a hand to the mourning
Sending loved ones on there way
Well I ain’t afraid of dyin’
‘Cause I know where I’ll go
There I’ll live forever
On the streets made of gold
‘Til then I’ll keep on workin’
You won’t hear me complain
And every day I’ll tip my hat
To the rock that says my name
I hired on out of high school in 1968
My wife and I picked out a spot
Right up by the gate
It ain’t much but every morning
The sun shines on that ground
One of these days when I clock out
That’s where I’m layin’ down
Well I ain’t afraid of dyin’
‘Cause I know where I’ll go
And there I’ll live forever
On the streets made of gold
‘Til then I’ll keep on workin’
You won’t hear me complain
And every day I’ll tip my hat
To the rock that says my name
Born in Alabama
June 1 9 5 0
Throw the dirt on top of me
Sow the seeds and let it grow
Well I ain’t afraid of dyin’
‘Cause I know where I’ll go
There I’ll live forever
On the streets made of gold
‘Til then I’ll keep on workin’
You won’t hear me complain
And every day I’ll tip my hat
To the rock that says my name
Someday when I’m under it
I hope you’ll do the same
Stop by sometime and tip your hat
To the rock that says my name
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Matthew 6:19-21 KJV
Thank heavens for this band! (Along with Whiskey Myers, Tyler Childers, Blackberry Smoke, Brent Cobb, Them Dirty Roses, Letters From Jett, The Cadillac Three and Cody Jinks! Please support all these great Southern bands, y'all.)
Thanks for the band names !
also check out the Bitter Roots, The Kenneth Brian Band, Otis, Hogjaw, The Dirty Soul Revival, Preacher Stone, Stone Senate, The Bogart Jones Band and many more. Lots of new southern rock out there. I play all these including the ones you mentioned on my show.
@@HardBlues yo! Tyler Childers too eh!
I love their music!! Great list!!! I love Brent Cobb, too! He is really good! Story teller like these guys!! 😊💕
Don't forget Jamey Johnson and John Prine.
Found this band by accident and i don't care whether you like rock or country, these guys are great.
Hell Yeah!
Me also saw them by surprise when they opened for Jamey Johnson in Rochester mn awesome show
Yep, I Never Heard Of Them, And I Just Come Across them Only By Accident? BUT THEY SOUND GREAT!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Most definitely love these guys!!!!!!
Just pure talent.
I played this at my dads funeral. He died august 2nd unexpectedly at 54. I couldn’t think of a better song that sounded more like him. He worked until he clocked out for good.
So sorry for your loss. 🦅👆
Grace and peace to you and your family.
He'll look down in pride at how you'll carry the family.
I'm a Mexican America 🇺🇸 and I have come to the South from CA I am conservative at heart ❤️ this song right here reminds me that no matter who you are, if you work hard put God first and everything will be added to you.
Amen brother! You got that right 🇺🇸✝️
Merica 🇺🇲💯❗️
Thank you for leaving California.
Never return to that anti-conservative, Anti-American state.
When enough Mexicans get to your state it will become democrat too. Trust me. @@davecrupel2817
Same brother, left Colorado for Mississippi. Nice to be around like-minded God fearing Americans ✝️🇺🇸
Yesterday, in 2 seperate incidents, I lost 2 cousins, one who was like a little brother to me. Today I stumbled upon this song, and it struck a mighty deep cord within me. Now I can't stop listening to it. Rock on, and keep the music flowing.
Keep moving on man, it's gonna be ok
Stay strong. Music helps us thru rough sad times in life.
Just make sure you tip your hat to the rocks that say thier names. Life goes on, and the ones we loved have moved on as well.
Same I lost a close friend of our family much to soon this song brings me some southern comfort
I disagree with folks that say to move on. I know they don't mean it to be disrespectful but keep their memories alive. When I was first diagnosed with stage 4 cancer that was my biggest fear, not death but the thought of everyone moving on was devastating. Don't let go
I don't always listen to The Steel Woods but when i so do the neighbors.
kenneth dirt ☺️💕
I shared this and said turn the lights down crack a cold one and turn this up. This shit speaks to the soul. Lol
kenneth dirt and the neighbors are looking out of their blinds all while at the same time they are patting their FEET !
Im gonna steel that line. Good one.
So do mine lol
Straightforward southern rock of the finest. Dear God, let a thousand more such songs be created. . .
True words
Got that shit right
I totally agree with you. 👍
This song really hits home. I was born in Alabama in 1950 and graduated high school in 1968…Think I’ll have this played when I clock out. Really love the scripture at the end, reminds me of so many preachers down south.
RIP Rowdy. I'll tip my hat to the rock that says your name.

I’m a funeral director and this song says it all. It will be played at my funeral.
I'm a caretaker of a cemetery and love this song as well.
@@butcherfish78 I was born in Alabama in 1950 and graduated and started full time work in 1968... so this songs hits home..
I know where I'm going when I leave this world. There I will live forever. On the streets made of gold. That "ROCK is JESUS CHRIST". Tip your hat to him.
Right on.
@@post-apocalypticcomingsoon1625 thank you 👍
@Mason Smoker Hi mason. What a day that will be. Always peace for ever more. On that happy golden shore

@@bacarinr Hi bacarinr yes someday. This world is not our home. We are just passing through. 🙋♀️
I in fact stopped and tipped my hat to the rock that says your name. It was a pleasure. Rest easy brother show those angels up there how to really sing.
Love this song. Played it at my grandfathers funeral.
That's really great.
Incredible. This band doesn't do one song that isn't excellent.
Agree. Already 1 MORON who clicked the thumbs down. How can anyone NOT freaking love this band, and this hot dam music. It's the best music I've heard in 20 yrs.
Makes for slung over Sunday a no show Monday
Excellent band. Awesome!!!! ❤️
Yeah same feel listening to The White Buffalo or Turnpike Troubadours
We dont deserve a band as good as The Steel Woods
Lol. Yes we do. They are awsome. Keeping their music simple but dayum, it rocks.
Yes we do !!!!!!!
Yes we do. 😎
We deserve death and eternal damnation. But with the acceptance of the sacrifice of our savior, we can be given the grace of God and eternal life in the city four square.
@@inthebriarpatch god forgives you, now forgive yourself and shine that beautiful light he gave you.
There are two types of musicians: Artists & performers. This is art.
This is awesome. 😎
I love the very end where the Old Man reads from the Bible-- It sends cold chills through me and I FEEL every word--Such a Great Band --
Yes same here. "EVERY WORD"
That's Wes Baylis's grandfather ❤
God please comfort us all. This song has a whole new meaning now. Heartbreaking.
I dont have to say nothin if you got the south in your heart ,this is how country is supposed to sound like ,yaw keep doin tha dang thang fella's!
This makes me think and remember my mother and brother so much. I love them so. Jeffrey scot

Why doesn't this incredible band have even 1M subs. The Steel Woods should be one of the greatest bands in the world. And yes, it's already one of mine
I heard this earlier this year and loved it. Just recently really listened to every word and verse. So here I am watching my third video of this song in a row! God bless these guys.

Aww u the lucky one. Got to meet "THE STEEL WOODS BAND".
I too found them by chance. This is great powerful music, much needed these days. Im in the UK and they resonate here too!!
I'm turning 33 1 week from today.
Doesn't mean a damn thing. I'm going fishing on Sunday!
Lol 💜
Bury me under my real name my son Nick wrote before he took a pipe to his chin at 22. We did. "Love each other as I have loved all of you" was on the note he left behind. R.I.P. my son.
Condolences to you. Memories will keep him close. Stay strong.
Just came across this song today on my pandora under Brent Cobb radio and I can’t get enough! Love the old music feel to it!
No doubt...I'm seeing the end right now. Been down with my health for almost 2 yrs and I'm not afraid. Find God my friends and life becomes clear. Until then I'll be rocking with The Steel Woods. God Bless

one of the best songs I've ever heard!
I must admit this is the first time hearing them and I must say I'm hooked.....great music
This is the best song, country, rock, or gospel that truly speaks to the soul. Awesome music guys.
Mine will say what a good human being this man was...
What a powerful tune.I really like this band. I would like to see them play up here in New England.
Best comment. POWERFUL!!! Their songs have heart, soul, and purpose. I can't listen without the cold chills. No silly ass shaking, and none of that auto tune. Just an amazing group, and BYG*D, THEY CAN PLAY.
Only saw them once and there wasn't a lot of talking between songs, just one song following the next. I will also say, they sound as good live as they do recorded, so they are real deal musicians, not studio artists.
Don't know how far away you are, but, they're playing in Albany, NY on April 20, 2019--FYI
Underrated band!
One of the best I have ever heard!
Straw in the Wind is good too
Play at my funeral 👏👏
Real music, awesome band live!
I'm a FUCKEN Yankee, but my HEART IS A REBEL. I LOVE YOU MY CONFEDERATE FLAG FOREVER

They're likely God haters.

I didn't always blast the steel woods in the middle of the woods, but when I did, the fish in the creek below me were harmonizing with me

My country roots return once more to guide me as I found this group....Reminds me of my youth and the music that inspired my journey through this at times very difficult life. Music from the heart and sounds that stir ones soul. Congratulations gentlemen on providing both!
I've been looking for this and am blessed by it
Cutting these stones is what my family and I have done for generations. There's nothing like the stone, what it means to us to do this work and what really matters. Thank you for writing a song that says it so well.

Drinking whiskey while listening to Steel Woods, especially “Rock that says my name”, should be “Man Law”. A very meaningful powerful song by a powerful meaningful band. Well done Steel Woods!!!!
This is the music legends are made from. Just awsome.
Im glad that I found this group. Need more, many more radio stations to start playing alot more of these amazing songs. Can I like this a million times??? I'll wear that like button out if someone will tell me how. This is the way music should be sung, and played.
Cummins Real power radio hasn't played good music for a couple of decades now. Satellite radio or the internet are the only places where you'll hear it

Okay, so I apparently have been living under a rock because I've just discovered this band yesterday, and after listening to many of their songs I can say with 100% certainty, that they kick major ass! IMO anyways.
Straw in the Wind is excellent
