Another person achieving cool & fun things their first shot at it (even if it's only a lie) is always exciting to be a part of, even if it's a small part.
To be fair he made all routes at least a couple of grades harder for himself by waiting for instructions between moves, grabbing holds the wrong way etc. Still impressive acting though, and must be hard to go against his instincts like that!

I've been watching Magnus for years. I always told myself, if I ever slim down enough, I wanna start climbing, but there's no way I can start now with my body type. This awesome coach has shown me I can start as I am. So thank you Magnus and THANK you Sophia.
Hi there, you can definitely start climbing, irrespective of BMI. I have a guide here, and it says that it is safe (low injury rare) to climb 4a-c when your bmi is 27. So when you start climbing when your bmi is even higher, you can definitely start on 2s or 3s with low injury rate. And my experience is that when you start climbing, you will start gaining muscle really fast, which helps A LOT with fat burning. So..... You should definitely try climbing! You can probably pair up with someone your level at the gym. Climbing people tend to be the quite relaxed go with the flow type. And encourage eachother.
So you've been fat for years, stuffing your face and you want to climb? In all of those years you've been watching Magnus you could have slimmed down already. Stop being fat, go make a plan and do something good for yourself bro.
The best part of climbing as an exercise routine is that it’s damn fun, addictingly so. Once you get into it, motivation is no problem. Unless you want to do any other form of exercise again.
"I actually don't like Fredrik" I fucking scared my cat off the couch with how loud I laughed. And on a little bit of a serious note: thanks for making these fun climbing videos, I managed to convince a friend of mine to try bouldering with me after watching a video of yours, and now she's hooked. We have both struggled with depression and anxiety, and her with ptsd, and climbing is such a life changing activety. We can play, have fun, challenge ourselves, get a great workout, and after our climbing sessions we go home to eat together and watch videos of yours, and videos of people we've found through your videos. Wanted to thank you in person last time I saw you at Skullerud but I would feel too rude to interrupt and bother you😅 Just, thank you so much, your videos have truly been so important to us.

Tripping out at how this has come full circle. Long Beach Rising is my home gym where I started climbing last year using Magnus' videos as inspiration and guide to start bouldering and now the video of him when he was there recently is now published. I've done many of the sets he did too 😂
Gotta say, the first Björn video got me into climbing. I saw it one day while I was lounging around and I was like damn that looks like fun, then I watched many many more videos and now, it’s safe to say, I love climbing
I had been climbing a bit before that, but that video introduced me to Magnus’s channel, I’ve since binged all his videos, and it’s made me want to climb more.
Because of you at 47 I started bouldering 3 days a week for the last 4 months. I have been a multi sport athelete my whole life but had a fracture in L5 when I was 23 but no nerve damage just pain and a long recovery then at 35 broke my arm and needed rebuilt with plates 3 surgeries and bone graphs. I am currently projecting v4,v5 ish and unbelievably putting on muscle mass like I was a kid again. Thanks for inspiring me. Also the amount I have been able to learn about climbing from your videos has been crazy. It has helped a ton. Especially on reading routes.
Your first video like this is what inspired me to trying climbing for the first time. Now we are members at our local gym and love it! My only regret is not starting sooner
Hi Magnus, I don’t know if you read these but I just wanted to thank you. I have never rock climbed in my life but I found your channel years ago and watched a lot of your stuff. I ended up forgetting about it and then was reintroduced because of your Ludwig collab! Anyways, I’ve been struggling with really bad anxiety for a while now but I just went through a week of nearly constant panic attacks, day in day out. It was undoubtedly the worst time of my life and every day felt like hell. The one thing that helped me through it was your videos. Whenever I started to feel anxious I would open RUclips and start watching the magical and humble Norwegian man flash V9s. For some reason, I found comfort in your videos and they really helped to ground me (pun intended). Now I have a goal for myself. To overcome this crippling anxiety and get myself in my local rock gym! But what I really want to say is thank you. And I hope you know that your videos do more than entertain. They inspire others every day!
Im rooting for you! Panic attacks is probably the worst ive ever felt and I hope you'll overcome it😣 I recommend rock climbing, very chill, good training and very fun! Love from Norway ✌️
You weren't talking to me, but I really am glad to hear you're doing better! Remember that many of the other beginners there had the same sort of anxiety, even the smilers! Let me know if you're in/around NOVA and we can climb together. We're all friends in this!
1) I hope you feel better and 2) Get climbing! It's so much fun! If you struggle with anxiety/depression, physical exercise is actually one of the best therapies (about as effective as medical antidepressants according to the current literature, though both should be used as needed), so it should help in more ways than one!
This was actually really helpful! As a person who's Never claimed or boulder before..it was very informative seeing magnus climb acting like a beginner and the instructor saying where to put ur hands, feet and body mechanics! Really awesome video not only funny but informative!
What's interesting is that you embodied the beginner mentality including an egotistical personality. And yes at V6 your body fluidity gave up your ruse. Your attention to detail by adding Spiderman themed background music was quite effective. Both an entertaining and educational presentation by providing real time climbing progression. Particularly liked dramatically going for the top edge in lue of the two smaller holds with a surprisingly explosive move :)
omg love these vids haha magnus is such a great actor like he acts like a noob so well omg the trembling, asking questions, chalking, getting fatigued easily, swaying and unable to control the body movement, sudden abrupt moves to cling on the holds and falling is so on point. all the little details make it so believable at the start

@@juanbandera4415 you could fake being bad because you really are bad 😂😂, joking.
I reckon with all your years of experience, if someone pretend to be bad/beginner you'd pick up on something being suss pretty quick, even if you couldn't put your finger on it. I reckon you've got really good muscle memory on how to fall properly without hurting yourself, and you'd probably find it difficult to fall like a beginner. Obviously no idea for sure, but just my opinion.
@@juanbandera4415 i disagree, sure you can act fake by falling over, but even your crashes will be controlled, you cant force landing full power on your neck once muscle memory kicks in.
11:59 Magnus - “I’m not very strong”
Coach - “yeh”
😂😂😂
I’m really impressed with how knowledgeable and patient the instructor was throughout!!!
I was shocked as well cuz she doesnt look like a climber at all.. She was great!
@@JonHop1 frrrr what i was thinking big props and respect to her
Faie
I'm really surprised how nice and helpfull these coaches are tbh.
Good job to her.
Yeah i noticed this too. Everyone i've met in bouldering is so nice! Great sport
@@dark-5825 yeah exactly.
That's always been my experience bouldering! Great people :D
Why are you surprised? They’re being told they’re going on the news, of course they want to be nice
The coach is very accurate in her explanations and shows clearly her passion for climbing as well as her knowledge.
Magnus, on the slight chance you see this, I really want you to know that your love for climbing is infectious. Seeing your passion for your sport inspired me to step onto a tennis court today six years after hanging up my racket because of injuries. Thank you for helping me rediscover my love for my sport.
This one coach had a different style, which I enjoyed a lot. She started off trying to make sure her student was safe, but then immediately spotted his talent and let him try stuff out.
Loved Sophia! Such a positive and calming energy, I bet an actual beginner would really benefit from that when climbing scary walls.
as a climber who has been stuck at v4 for like 2 years. Hearing magnus say you actually have to start climbing a little bit around v5,v6 heavily impacted my soul lmao.
that's how I feel about my piano. The pro/am divide.
Yeah me too! But then I'm past mid 60s so I am just going to claim age induced infirmities. 🤣
"I think youd really like slabs"
And Magnus took that personally
The instructor was friendly and helpful, nice to see this.
Another wonderful coach just like in the last video. It really strikes me how nice and encouraging people are in this sport, especially to beginners.
Magnus, I just want you to know that you were such an inspiration to me. You got me to keep pursuing rock climbing as a hobby and it has really helped me physically and mentally.

The instructor was so good! Props to her for being so patient 😂
I can’t imagine her hanging out on the side of a mountain tho 😂
@@tylermiller214 😂
@@tylermiller214 And? I can’t imagine some olympic climber being so helpful and patient teaching beginners. Her job is to instruct and she’s good at it.
Right! She came across a bit disintrested initially but we all would certainly become bored repeatedly working with beginning climbers over and over as a job. Her excitement was subtle but grew more as she became more impressed and fully invested as he kept proving himself taleted. Awesome stuff! Another person achieving cool & fun things their first shot at it (even if it's only a lie) is always exciting to be a part of, even if it's a small part.
@@Quagigitymire I think she just shy and uncomfortable at first.
I didn't know Magnus was such a great actor. When he started shaking trying to climb that V4, it was hard not to think he was really struggling 😅
Frrr
To be fair he made all routes at least a couple of grades harder for himself by waiting for instructions between moves, grabbing holds the wrong way etc. Still impressive acting though, and must be hard to go against his instincts like that!
This series is too funny, but also a credit to the great teachers. Always so encouraging!
Looking forward to more Magnus!
Björn videos will always be great content. There are also a few comedic gems in here:
"I don't have a lot of strength" -> "Yea" cracked me up.
Coach was also super sweet.
“Pretending got really hard around V5 or V6, you have to actually start climbing a little bit”
Felt that sting
LMAO
A bit.
hit my soul area
I’ve never rock climbed before but wanted to get into it. What exactly is this guys power level if he is saying V6 is only starting to be challenging?
@@th0rn42 it isnt even challenging for him, he says he needs to start climbing a little bit at v5-v6. Magnus is def a bit too strong, since most normal people would find v5 or v6 extremely hard.
I've been watching Magnus for years. I always told myself, if I ever slim down enough, I wanna start climbing, but there's no way I can start now with my body type.
This awesome coach has shown me I can start as I am. So thank you Magnus and THANK you Sophia.
super wholesome dood, love the guy but you don't have to be magnus to climb, its for everyone! good luck
I mean if you start now it'll help with slimming down no doubt
The best part of climbing as an exercise routine is that it’s damn fun, addictingly so. Once you get into it, motivation is no problem. Unless you want to do any other form of exercise again.
What a great teacher. I'm so glad Magnus finds positive encouragement
I think you're in the wrong youtube channel. Who is Magnus? This is Björn: Federick's sworn enemy
Bruh
This lady has some legit good tips for 'beginners'.
Wanted to thank you in person last time I saw you at Skullerud but I would feel too rude to interrupt and bother you😅
Just, thank you so much, your videos have truly been so important to us.
“take that fredrik, you piece of shit”
She is the nicest cooach that you can find. She has such a good heart and being so patient with him knowing that these guys are punking her for their own RUclips videos.
She had no idea until the end.

It made my day for sure.
Magnus, being someone who bought your book, being impressed by you since the first videos and privately being in an immense pressured and chaotic situation, needing some motivation and encouragement. My name is Björn actually and i open this video and hear your voice saying "Björn is back" feels just overwheling and positive, i almost had a tear. Thank you for making my day! If this isnt karma, i dont know what it is.
You can do it Björn!!!
Seeing you, Björn. Keep on moving, I don't know you personally but I feel you are an amazing being. Lots of love to you.
U got it Bjorn🔥
Was that before? How are you doing now? Stay strong my man. We need to get Bjorn shootout by Magnus lol
U da man Björn!
When he slid off the wall at 3:02 and just started smiling that was hilarious 😂
Didn't even see that. LOL 🤣
Him trying to fake a Nordic accent when he already has one was really funny lol
What a great instructor! I’ll bet her employers were thrilled when they saw her teaching techniques.
She is awesome, love her calm and motivacional speech while you climbing with instructions.
love her, such a good instructor.
I really hope Bjorn returns occasionally and "struggles" through climbs all around the country. These videos are great.
isn’t he famous?? kinda hard haha
Laughing my butt off. Magnus, you play such a good dork. Sprinkling the Chaulk on your hands 😅😂
you mean the "powder" :D.. 4:38 cracked me up.
Better acting in this one than in the first for sure, he improved. I guess if he failed a bit more often even as the difficulty increases, then it would be more believable
So hilarious
Magnus, because of your channel, I tried climbing for the first time. I did not do as well as Bjorn, but still proud to do 3 different V1s as a nearly 50yr old beginner.
Way to go bud!
that's awesome! I hope you had a great time.
That's awesome just be careful when falling so that you don't hurt yourself
One of the hardest things for a pro in any discipline is to look like a beginner because of decades of perfecting your form, technique, etc. Magnus has an innate ability to pull this off. Bravo sir

Amazing video. I like how inclusive it is. Every single climber can now say they climb like Magnus Midtbo.
I love that you put *new video* knowing that most of us would skip this one thinking we'd already seen it, like I almost did 😂
Dude she killing it coaching. I don’t even climb but I totally would with her direction.
I love this video. Im a Norwegian, and a bit overweight. I have just now started climbing (i have tried 2 times). I have found it so overwhelming. All the other climbers, not knowing what I'm doing. Failing and falling.
Its hard facing this and still keep trying. This video gave me a lot of genuine good advise and entertainment.

Wow can’t believe I’ve been chalking wrong this entire time. I’ve been putting my hand in the bag like an idiot this whole time
Tripping out at how this has come full circle. Long Beach Rising is my home gym where I started climbing last year using Magnus' videos as inspiration and guide to start bouldering and now the video of him when he was there recently is now published. I've done many of the sets he did too 😂
And he liked your comment!
Props to the young lady she really knows her stuff not only as a climber but as a trainer as well.
Gotta say, the first Björn video got me into climbing. I saw it one day while I was lounging around and I was like damn that looks like fun, then I watched many many more videos and now, it’s safe to say, I love climbing
Exact same happened to me, I could have written that comment literally
it was the same for me
Same here!
Did you go climbing though???
This guy seems quite talented, maybe he'll become a famous rock climber one day.
Doubt it
Nah I can't see it, he sucks
yeah, you can tell he has a bit of potential.

1) I hope you feel better and 2) Get climbing! It's so much fun!
Saying you’ve done gymnastics is crucial in making people believe you’re a beginner
That girl is who you want working everywhere you show up, what a class employee!
omg love these vids haha magnus is such a great actor like he acts like a noob so well omg the trembling, asking questions, chalking, getting fatigued easily, swaying and unable to control the body movement, sudden abrupt moves to cling on the holds and falling is so on point. all the little details make it so believable at the start
The fact that Magnus can sell being a novice so well just shows how incredible of an athlete he really is
These videos are great because i think it makes going to a climbing gym for the first time seem less scary and more attainable. Especially with how nice all the coaches have been up to this point.
