- Troubleshooting a Skytech gas fireplace remote control. This concept can be applied to similar remotes with the same functionality. Most commonly used in gas log fireplaces and direct vent fireplaces without electronic ignition. These remote controls can be used during power outages because they only operate off batteries!
Please note that your pilot must be lit in order to operator your remote with this set up
Check out our video on how to relight your pilot

Literally the problem we were fixing right as I turned up the volume on your video was changing out the batteries in the receiver box! 😅 Nailed it. You know your stuff.
Thanks mate! saved me a callout to an engineer, replaced the batteries in the reciever just now, fire works again! Cheers from Englands rainy south coast.
Who knew?! Watching this was a real service call saver. Thank you!
You just saved us $200! We changed the batteries and had resorted to manually shutting off the gas every night. The paper clip trick worked like a charm!
Thanks so much! I was about to call someone to have them come and look at it, but your video saved me the call. The instructions were easy to follow and right on point with what I needed!! Thanks!!!
Thank you for your help. I was able to make my remote work after changing all the batteries and pairing it once again.
Thank you I knew there was a remote I knew there was a battery in the remote, but I didn’t realize there was a batteries in the other part. Thanks for the help.
Life saver. So helpful, so simple. Thank you
Yesssss TYSOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!
Thank you sir. you helped me with the exact remote and receiver. Perfect. p.s. i'm from Detroit, so Motown Fire to Motown dude. Thank youi.
Thanks for the video. Huge help!! Easy to follow.
Thank you so much , I owe you big time
Thank you. You saved me a ton of time and money!
Thanks for the video. My remote works now !! 👍🏼👍🏼
thank you, excellent! Merry Christmas
Perfect Instructions! Thank you!!!
Thank u!! You are awesome!
Thank you 🙏🏼. You are a life saver ❤❤❤
Perfect. Thank you.
It helped me! Thanks!
Help! Tried this and pairing didn’t work. We heard beeps after pressing the learn button, but when we hit the on button on the remote, it does not do anything - no beeps to be heard. All batteries are new and the remote is giving off a red light when buttons are pressed. Fireplace works when turned on manually. Help!
Try taking all the batteries out of the receiver box and remote, then start with putting the batteries in the receiver box first and then the remote. Hold the ON button down as you press the learn button in at the same time. The receiver box should beep a couple times then release all buttons. Make sure your pilot light is on then press on button to turn fire on. Make sure the fireplace knob is in the on position and all other switches are set to remote or off positions. Check to ensure all wiring is connected from receiver box to valve. If it still doesn't work then maybe that remote went bad..
This helped me, thank you!!!
My fireplace won't light anymore even if I turn the receiver box to on . The batteries are new so any idea why this is happening?
@@SuperJillianvsame here! I was able to get a new transmitter and still cannot turn on with the “on” on the transmitter or the remote. Eek
great in deft explanation, thanks
Hello i have a sky 3301P remote, i recently changed the batteries on the remote only. The fireplace will turn on with the remote and i'm able to adjust the temperature, however if i'm on thermo mode and the temperature inside the house is 65 and i adjust the temperature to let say 50 on the remote, the thermo mode will switch to thermo off, why is it doing this? Was in it is in this thermo off the temperature drops to below 50 the desired temperature, the fireplace will not turn on, why is that? Can you please help? Thank you
Followed instructions that you provided cannot seem to get the remote to pair with the transmitter...no beeps even when depressing the learn button.
Sounds like a bad receiver box.
Tell me why Lopie pellet stove remote wireless not working .hit reset button still nothing put new batteries in also
I have Model # 1410 A. The receiver does not have batteries...the fireplace turns on when I switch it to "On" manually on the receiver. However it will not work on the remote setting. I have tried pairing it, the receiver does beep once when I push the learning button but it does not pair when i hold down the on button on the remote. I have changed the batteries on the remote and still no luck. Any ideas on how i can fix this??
Try removing battery from remote and unplugging power to receiver. After a minute, plug receiver back in first then add battery to remote and try to relearn. If still doesn’t work then maybe the remote has been dropped one too many times!
My problem. Had roofing guys working and pressure washer outside in the same time. The brake went off. Seems like everything was working by the end of the day until I noticed my fire place keep going and going. When I went to my thermostat to bring temperature down it didn’t do anything to lower the flame. Than I have decided to turn off the thermostat but the fire place still continue to run . My only option was to turn the fireplace is turn off the pilot. The digital thermostat Honeywell is only few month old. What could be an issue in my case ???
Sounds like a short in the receiver box for the remote or bad batteries. Depends on the make and model but I would start by replacing that.
@@motownfire660 I don’t have remote for my propane gas fireplace. It’s Regency fireplace. And I usually turn on with Honeywell thermostat. It runs manually if I turn pilot on but not with thermostat. We just bought new thermostat at Home Depot and didn’t do anything. Still stuck with the same problem.
@@motownfire660 my model fir natural gas P36-NG and propane P36- LP
Wow thank you 🙏
Do we keep the fireplace on 'on' or pilot?
Keep your pilot light on and make sure the fireplace knob is in the “ON” position in order for the remote to work.
Thank you!
I changed all batteries in remote and receiver. Re-synced remote. Everything beeps as normal but stove doesnt turn on in any setting. Pilot is lit
First, make sure the fireplace valve knob is in the ON position. If it wasn’t then that should fix it. You could try a jumper wire to bypass the remote just to see if the remote was bad. If not you may have a clogged burner or line going to the burner, bad valve ( not opening), or a weak pilot/bad thermopile.
Question. So I thought I fixed my fireplace but after changing the batteries it worked for a bit and now and doesn’t turn it on or off. When I push the switch in the box to on it turns on for a little bit then turns off on its own. Any suggestions ?
So, that sounds like a bad thermopile. Try replacing the pilot assembly. The remote is probably working correctly.
When I manually turn the box on the fireplace comes on but it when I try to sync my remote is not working and there’s no beeps to be heard any ideas thanks
Replace the 4 AA batteries in the bottom of that receiver box and change out the one A23 in remote. Use brand new batteries and Re-pair the remote with receiver box.
If that doesn’t work your receiver box could be bad.
Motown Fire Thanks for replying I changed all the batteries in the remote and in the main unit underneath but still no beeps. You may be right the receiver is shot even though I manually put it to on and it comes on.
I'm having the same problem. Did you ever find a fix?
So my problem turned out to be the batteries I bought were defective. A new set fixed the problem
@@timpappy3399 It looks like I'm having the same problem as you did. So what did you do, did you replace the receiver box? If so, is it something that can be purchased? Thanks for the feedback.
Ours melted. How do I bypass it - temporarily - and obtain a replacement ?
Remove the two wires on the receiver box and when you touch them together it should work, bypassing the remote. Pilot will need to be lit and valve in ON position of course.
@@motownfire660 Thank you so much for writing. Alas, as you mention in your video, ours is apparently the powered version -- meaning power is supplied by receiver (enough so, that ours was delivered with the ability to connect a supplemental battery box holding four D-cells). So, if power must be supplied, how much, and at what voltage, please ?
Thanks for your help. You were a lifesaver
thank you !!!!!!
Thanks for the video. I just bought my house and the old owner misplaced the remote, would I be able to buy just the remote or there like a universal remote that pairs to any Skytech receiver?
No, you can’t just buy a remote. They come paired from the factory. You’ll end up getting a transmitter (remote) and the receiver box when buying a new skytech remote kit.
Good evening - I have a Smart-Stat-II and hoping you can assist with me getting to work. It is a plug-in model and there is no Learn button. The receiver is in the Remote position and clicking the Mode button on the receiver, I can hear the beeps omitting from the receiver box, but the flame does not go off. I have a pilot system so, at the start of each Fall, I usually get the pilot working, then turn the gas up to manually to start the fireplace. The remote does it from there. Except now it doesn't turn it off (I do it manually for now until this remote issue is resolved). From the sound perspective, it makes the usual sound except nothing changes with the flame. Hopefully it is something simple I have missed.
So everything works correctly manually and only the remote turns on the unit, but not off?
I would double check that all switches are in the off position and/or in the remote only position. ( so no other switches are on) if problem still exist make sure you have fresh batteries, and if the unit turns on from the mode button on the remote , make sure you hit the mode button to off and not a thermostat mode, which may allow it to stay on.
You may need a new remote.
@@motownfire660 First off, thank you for the reply... So, batteries are not needed in the remote - AC plug in. Secondly, the remote works fine with new battery. As I stated above, at the start of the season I manually get the fire going and then, in past years, (if I recollect things correctly!) I'm able to use the remote to turn the flame off, and, subsequently, back on again. That's not happening. I'm missing a step somewhere! With the flame on, when I press the Mode button on the remote, I clearly hear the beeping from the receiver, but no change in the flame, i.e., it is still on. Am I missing something somewhere?

Ill need your make , model , and serial number to look up a wiring diagram. It does not sound like it is in the remote or receiver box. Possible connections to valve or module?
@@motownfire660 This is a Heat-N-Glo, Model #SL550TRS-C and the S/N is 002460163. I appreciate whatever you can find to assist here...
@@jeffreybunce4347 Is this Electronic Ignition or Free Standing Pilot? Can you take a picture of your valve for me?
My old Sky Tech remote would only turn the fireplace on. The off button did NOT work (turn off the fire) and the LED light would not come on when pressing the OFF button. I bought a new Sky Tech remote which came with a fresh new battery. I replaced the batteries in the receiver with new ones however the fire will not light while using the new remote. My receiver does NOT have a learn button to push, therefore I cannot re-synch the receiver to the new remote. How can I fix this problem
All sky tech remotes are paired from the factory with the receiver box. You will need the complete kit with remote and receiver box.
Thanks m8
Shit, no help. I bought a new remote, still does not work.. Replaced the solenoid, still does not work. Removed the silver shut on/off from the solenoid stem which leaves the gas on always, go from pilot to on and it flames perfectly. How do I test the solenoid? The solenoid and I have a brand new one, and it is magitized out of the box, removed the old solenoid, silver plug and spring and replaced with new, new AA batteries, nothing. The solenoid does not respond. Is there a way I can by pass the remote box to make the solenoid work, seems like 6 volts is what the batteries in series kicks out, so should I not be albe to control the solenoid by reversing the remove wires to on or off? Is ther anthing in the remove besides the hand remote connection? i'ts got me beat.
How about the knob only goes to low but not to high
Try brand new batteries in receiver box and check wiring connections to valve . If valve still does not go to High setting then the valve is bad.
So annoying! My fireplace was working fine last winter and I took the batteries out of the remote and now I put them back in and it won’t work. So now I got to have the matchless stove and chimney guy come because I don’t know how to open my stupid fireplace. This is so annoying why did they make it so difficult to get to that little box. So frustrating.
My thermostat remote works most of the time but about once a week the fireplace stays on even the remote is set for 18. Once I caught it at 40!
If my pilot light is on and I have to change the batteries in the receiver do I have to shut the pilot down???
No, you don’t have to shut it off.
But the fireplace works on on
