I didn't like A, and seeing the comments seems like I'm not the only one. 10k my ass, give me that 1.5k violin any day.
WORD! Violin C FTW!
Goes to show price is not everything! You're just paying for brand or history of the violin
thats very funny. Ithink C and D sounds best (C is my favourite) and A has an bad sound. I couldn`t believe that A is the most expensive one...
Sonnen blümchen IKR❗❗❗
Same here! The lower register on A sounded awful even compared to B. Why is it $10K? Famous maker having a bad day?
well, the second I saw the first one. I knew by the "damage" that's the most expensive one xd
Sonnen blümchen same XD
Same
I didn't get it right ... but I must say that the $1500 one sounds so beautiful.
agreed the $1,500 sounds good
Tru C sounded so much like 10K
Well, I read all the comments. My guess is like you, C is very nice to me
I was sure #3 was the 10 grander, something about the sound. Wonder what makes it different from the others.
True!
I am pretty confident this is correct!
A 600
B 950
C 10000
D 1500
Edit:
Well I was pretty wrong lol
c is really nice
Pls explain why Many of us feel de 10k one has the worst sound
@@kunalvm I don't know if this is the actual reason, but the price is heavily determined by the prestige of the maker, the kind of wood and more. But the actual sound and resonance of the exact pieces of timber in an instrument can still vary immensely in any price range. Still, i also think it's quite likely that this guy's microphone doesn't represent the true sound too authentically.
B10000, D 1500
I must say, as a violinist, A is not that good as C. I prefer C than the others.
No hard feelings, just an honest review.
As a violinist, maybe you can tell us curious folk why C sounds so much better than the others? It seems like it's the favorite in the comments I've read, and few people liked the 10 grander (A).
DeadlyChinchilla. Well as a violinist myself I can say it's tone was the best, it also wasn't a choked as the rest were on the higher notes. The notes were much smoother on the bow changes an were sharp an direct but not piercing.
Now i wonder if the bows were also different or the same because that would play a big part also.
I am kinda mad A cost that much because it would have the 600 dollar sound imo. But expensive violins aren't pricey due to musicality most of the time, just history if anything.
DeadlyChinchilla
People like the C) most.
@@DeadlyChinchilla resonance.
I think D sounded the best
Same! So rich
Jesus Christ I thought A was the cheapest one wtf
It's ok. I thought the same too. I thought C was the 10k violin.
Me too lol
Greek heree
Ditto! I think you have to try harder for the cheaper ones, so he may have naturally worked harder and sounded louder on those.
Same here! A was harsh, gritty and cold. C was best in my humble opinion, but every one is entitled to their own opinion.
Wow, interesting. I thought that the nicest sounding violin was the cheapest one, with the 10,000$ one coming in second.
A = sounds expensive, mellow
B = cheaper, bright, a bight harsh
C = ? bright clean resonant
D = mellow, nice
A = so-so
B = nice
C = $$$ nice
D = $$$$ also very nice
600 = B
950 = C
1500 = A
10,000 = D
JC I said the same.
I also thought D was the best
Same. I liked the $10,000 and $600 the best but I thought the $600 was better
I did not like the most expensive one at all...
I"m amazed. I was absolutely certain C was the cheap one, because it sounded darker and more closed-in to me. Amazing how good both the $600 and $950 ones sound!
from cheap to expensive
A D B C
lol
completely wrong
maybe it wasn't the best idea to compare sounds while eating
Commandster I thought the same ._.
really like the sound of C tho
same felt like C sounded really good
lol same my guess was A D C B
Jeffrey nice profile pic!
hope they make this season a good one
First song I thought, from most expensive to cheapest:
C
D
B
A
Second song I swapped D and C and preferred the sound of D. Fun to know it doesn't have to cost a fortune to make beautiful music.
Exactly the same
I honestly can't tell the difference because you played them all absolutely beautiful 😉
you can still tell the difference. stop making an excuse to compliment
I thought A was the worst one tbh
Ling Ling could tell without even listening to them...
Or looking at them
Ling Ling world have been able to tell within 40 seconds of the video's beginning, before any of the actual playing began.
My fav was c tbh
A and C were resonant while the other two almost stopped as soon as the bow stopped. It's not always about sound, the proportions of a violin are also extremely important as they can impede the violinist from getting the best sound out of the instrument if off.
Every violin you play sounds amazing 😍
Well i know what 10k violin not to buy lol.
C definitely blew them all out of the water.
Any chance on posting the makers?
Try moving the sound post. Changing strings.
You made even the lower priced ones sound amazing.
That Tchaikovsky Concerto 3rd movement though ooo!
I guessed A and C but had B and D mixed up. A had the clearest sounds on the higher end.
Wow I was dead wrong about the prices... I thought cheapest one sounded the nicest!! But what I really had to comment on was that your technique is impeccable. I was tripping out on how parallel your bow stayed to your bridge even while blindfolded!
Proof that not all expensive violins sound the best
1. B 2. A 3. C 4. D
I love these tests. D sounds noticeably restrained like it is struggling to produce the music compared to the other 3. A, although being the most expensive has a very brash and forward personality that I personally don't enjoy. However it is my experience that many "professional" violins have this character because they have to be able to project in a concert hall against many other players and it is difficult to make a violin that projects very well AND has a sweet tone. B is definitely my favorite with a warmer and more melodic character and more colorful sound than C. I love these tests, they show the price does not equal 'better' sound. This is why you should always play instruments yourself without looking at prices and then pick your favorite and hope you can afford it!
I don't know the first song much and for some reason they sounds a lot different in many ways. But I listened my heart will Go on twice. And come out with a conclusion I want D more then A and bc sounds the same but I was very sure both BC must be somehow cheaper then AD. So D>A>B=C
And I am not surprised I am wrong but i am truely glad I love the sound of the violin that I can afford.
For me the best is the D
Seriously
You are great 😍😍
I thought that ‘b’ is the 10000$ 😅
Cheap to expensive:
A D B C
Edit: oh my lord the more expensive one sounded the worst tbh. At least B was before C 🤷
I noticed a lot of people prefer C. In my opinion also, C has the best tone. Thanks for this great video!
D is much louder, but i can't tell if this is better or not. C sounds smooth and clean but i have also to ask. Are all violins have same strings on them ?
We have to listen the difference between the violins, not the strings, right?
Well, after i saw the answers i surprised that the first one is the most expensive, and without know the answer, the C should be my choice. Sounds amazing.
A was my favourite. It sounded the clearest without sounding cheap and harsh, it also sounds very smooth and more detailed imo. I don't get why so many people chose C.. C sounds very muddy and not detailed enough to me. I guess people like darker sounding violins.. But not me lol, if you want to make it less bright use an EQ..
I prefer slightly darker violins so I enjoyed B quite a bit, but I couldn't decide between B and A being more expensive. I'm not surprised A was since many 10k violins are marketed as "professional" or for "advanced students" and Luthiers seem to focus on projection and precision above all else at this price point. Every violin in this category I've played sounded somewhat sterile to me and shockingly loud. I personally prefer the 2-5k market where you get some sweeter and more charcterful tones even if the instrument loses a little clarity. My current violin was around 3k and I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon until I can find the right instrument that has both the warmer sound and the punch and precision of a higher grade instrument.
I got the 10k right. The other three i gave up on because i didn't like any of them.
In fact when i was thinking about them, i did get them all right. But the middle two were a bit overlapping.
B was definitely cheaper than C. The sound vibrations for C were much richer and it was a very stark contrast. But my first guess was that A was the cheapest. It had a funny sound to it. But overall, it's interesting how all instruments seem to have their own personalities. It's almost like they are people
I'm in 6th grade I play the violin and I do have to play my heart will go on.
The "B" violin have the best sound for me :) Great vidoe mate! Thanx!
testing my ears for music
A: A bit rough around the edges. Still nice $950
B: A bit rougher than A, but better than A. $1500
C: A lot better than the last two. My guess this is the $10,000 one
D: Sound like the violin was fighting Rob the whole time. $600
Edit: wtf
While RUclips audio and what's probably the onboard mic of the camera isn't an ideal test and none of them sounded terrible, like others I too thought A was the least expensive fiddle.
My answer was (best to less good) C-B-D-A 😁 I actually loved C so much. But you played all of them great.
I think D is the most expensive
Edit:WHAT ON EARTH
Amazing! Could you be so kind to reveal which brands and types were the various violins? Could be a reason to choose for one of them:)
liked A , B liked it more of the same like A , C didn't like , sounded somewhat sterile ... D was different than A and B , was a little more smooth i considered , warmer! ... now the results... keep in mind that i do not play violin and also i do not know how yt is afecting the audio ... A~B >C , D interesting
From most to least
1.A
2.C
3.D
4.B
Ehhh I was close. Had to put headphones on! 😁
In truth, I couldn't hear much of a difference.
In order CBDA
I couldn't be any more wrong HAHAHA
The 1,500 one sounds so pretty, tho. It was my favorite TT TT
Crazy. I thought D had the best sound by far.
A: Harsh and scratchy
B: Bit better but scratchy
C: A bit scratchy too
D: mwa mwa mwa perfection
I'm looking for a violin to play some metal solos on so idk much about them but I'd D sounded best to me since it had a deep tone in comparison to B and C sounded great too. B,A,C,D from worst to best for me.
I think it is always hard to guess from the outside when you play it yourself it is much clearer but I thought that the second one was a little flat in the sound on the G string and the first one felt like it really opened up on the G string. You played it amazing on all of them though
My favorite was C, then A. What violin was the C one? I wanna purchase it! Only 1500 and I fell in love with it!
I didn't go by price I just ranked in order by how pleasing. I got A and C right in terms of ranking but honestly I went back and forth on A and C depending on the notes being played. Both D and B were also toss up for last ranked for me. I really did not like B at all and it cost $950, and felt that the $600 D sounding more overall pleasing. It was a little ho hum average sounding, but there were a few notes that sang better to me on D than B.
It sounds like they're all $10k. Prob just me loving the Violin xD 🎻
Wow, so weird! I'm with everyone else! Totally thought A was the cheapest and C the most expensive, by sound and appearance. What violin is C? It almost looks like the Fiddlerman Soloist which is around that price?
C>B>D>A
damn, A was out of order
I thought it was D A B C from low to high (D was noticeably worse than the rest, B sounded resonant and articulated, C was darker with really nice varnish and I didnt notice anything in particular about A and maybe not paying attention. But watching again I think it followed by C has more character than the rest.
My fav was the C by far. And checkig the comments I can see that many people agrees with me. Looks like the most expensive not always the best. (Although 1500 bucks hardly could be considered as cheap...)
It sounds like C is the most played through, that’s probably why people are saying it sounds the best
they all sound good but A and C much better than the 2 others .i wish i could buy them ...thank you for the video
Im saying..
Best to Worst
D C B A
OHH FIDDLE STICKS......Probably D sounds the best to me caue my violin in in that price range so thats what im used too.
a has a wonderful sound
Hey Rob, please make a tutorial of how to create such a nice sound!
I've recognized a pattern in this tests video I've come across:
The one that has a fake sound, like a higher volume, is usally the cheaper (in this case qas 950$), the one which sounds nice and is seen as the best is usually the mid price, and the one which isn't the worste, but has a strange sound, is the most expensive.
I thought the price was in ascending order. A being the cheapest and D being the most expensive.
1.C
2.D
3.B
4.A
Someday when I have the money I might buy that 1500 violin it sound so nice and smooth and dark love it
From most expensive to least expensive I think it would be D,B,C,A
No way! Well I guess I like the sound of a $600 violin better
From cheap to expensive
D B A C
I'm quite happy that I can pinpoint the cheap ones..
Good job not telling us what kind of violins they were!
B and C resonate better than A, A sounded you have to push to get that overtone out. where B and C comes out easier.
I prefer D, and no for A and B
Surprisingly I like the 600, but I think its sound better
C is too beautiful, then I thought that it was the most expensive. I'm rocked
I cant tell the difference in price, but I do have a preference for B. I think for most people, the slight timbre differences is what's going to matter.
Based on this recording, C was my favorite but A was my least favorite though! I want to know what kind D was because I think I want one! It sounded very strong for it's price.
I preferred B and C with C being a definite favorite. D I didn't care for. A I thought sounded too dull. I am dumbfounded that A was the most expensive.
I thought B and D had the best sound. I've been playing a £450 violin for nearly 35 years, with only being loaned a £1000 violin for 12 months one time. Maybe it's time to upgrade and I'll find what I'm looking for for not too much.
A B C D i love all the sound's cause its way more better than my violin that is cost for about ($95-$100)
One of the best violinist in the world!!
It's not a fair comparison, because we only heard "A" on both high and low register....all the rest were played only on the lower register. Well...this is my guess:
A - $950
B - $600
C - $1,500
C - $ 10,000
from cheap to expensive: A B D C
wow i was so wrong
A - 10,000
B - 600
C - 1,500
D - 950
I swapped B and D on my guess, because I heard harsh sounds in B that I definitely hear on my $200 violin... but I was pretty close otherwise! I knew A was the most expensive from the get-go. Lol
D>B>C>A
Damn, exact opposite 😂😂
Right, I think also B had more sustain and better acoustic resonance
1- C-D-A-B -4
Oh lord 🤣 i think i should start learning an other instrument
I have a $3000 worth of violin( in the photo , the one Kitty has :D, it is copy of stradivarius ), when my tutor play music with this, sounds fantastic like real stradivari..but when i play, there is no difference with $100 violin.Rob , you can make a brilliant sound even $600 violin. I wanna be.
D is most resonant, but i cant tell if the tone is good
C has a warm tone but the projection isn't good
B just sounds bad
A has rich tone and is resonant although not the best for 10k
A, is kinda subdued B and C seem quite good to me, D is not the same quality as B and C. C does have a really nice gentle tone. A and D look the cheapest (bad strings).
C was my favorite. This is good, if I take up violin, I won't have to mortgage the house.
I don't care about the price, C definitely sounds the best !
I think B was the best A sounded weird but I got D right because it would like make a sound when you play out a note see I'll show you 1:52
What was your opinion when trying them blindfolded? Did you classify them correctly? Also, had you played them before without the blindfold?
You play the (my heart will go on) so.. romantic!! Thats why i wanted you to go to my mothers date with my step dad and that song to them😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 but i love it ur so talented!!!
D>B>C>A is my guess
I was completely opposite!!
D is most expensive, B and C are same, A is cheapest.
I know it's been a while, but what violin is C??? I loved the sound and I'll be in the market for one soon!!
Better violin quality doesn't depends on the price coz if the expensive violin's really nice and old it doesn't mean that the sound quality's really smooth comparing to a cheaper price where you can actually hear the violin sing like an angel well... I rather choose it.
Wow. To me A and B sounded almost exactly alike, C sounded cheap, and D had the best sound! I'm pleasantly surprised that D wound up being the cheapest one, and the second most expensive sounded like shit to me! 😂
What the!!!! the two cheapest violins were my picks. They had a good sound projection, or maybe just my preference.
C is the best in my opinion, it had a tone to it that i liked alot.
You are excellent guy!
Can you please share the 600£ violin model ? Thank you
C is definitely a violin a person should invest into if they plan on playing regularly throughout thier life. 1.5k is not THAT expensive for a lifetime instrument.
I guessed C, B, A, D. Everyone has their own tastes. I liked C a lot. How can we find out what violin it is?
I actually really loved the sound of C.
