  • Experience what it is like to drive on the narrow winding roads along the coast of Amalfi. View breathtaking mountain and ocean scenery. A quick stop in the town of Sorrento for a "caffe perfetto" and the madness of "I motorini". The Amalfi Coast is a little south of Naples Italy and runs between Sorrento and Salerno Italy.

    I drove this exact route in a six speed alfa romeo 159 earlier this year. Nothing more an 18 year old could ask for. Best day of my life period. Italy is utterly gorgeous.

    I lived in Naples for 3 years and travelled all around Italy and Europe. Italy however captured my heart and soul. There's something about it that just draws you back. Thanks for this wonderful video!!

    i used to live there. that was my home. i miss it so much. watching this video made me cry, especially at the end where it says "the motorini make their own lanes", because it's so true. i remember we use to have them coming on BOTH sides of our car, at the same time.

    What a wonderful video! I was there on a holiday and ran away from the organised tour and took a local bus from Sorrento to Positano along that very coastline and then on down to Amalfi. It will remain one of the best memories of my lifetime. Thanks for refreshing it for me - Valerie -Dublin Ireland.

    I was there last month also! One of the most stunning places i've ever seen! I also did the whole drive from one end to the other along those mountains. I love those little mirrors placed at the curves, they help, sure,a little bit, but come on!... I don't normally get car sick, but by the time i was done the whole 40 min (or more, can't remember) drive, i was sick to my stomach!.. But I must say, totally worth it!

    Well, if that were the case my hand would be on the horn more than the brake or the gas. As you saw, there are mirrors (some broken) at the bad corners to let you know if someone is coming. It is especially bad when the tour buses come around the corner. Thanks for your posting.

    The entire stretch of the Amalfi Drive is two way and sometimes when a camper or bus can't get around a corner, someone get out of their car and start directing people to back up their cars to a "wide" spot in the road so the bus or camper can get past.

    I don't know if they drive better than us, but I think they drive with a death wish on those windy roads. When we were in Florence, the motorini all jockied through the cars waiting for the light to change. When they took off I thought I was watching the start of the Grand Prix.

  • @AldimarVideo

    I have seen buses go in both directions along the coastal road of Amalfi.It is especially fun to see them when they cross at the sharp corners. Traffic comes to a halt and people get out of their cars to direct traffic. The inland route, over the mountains is very nice and so if you get tired of the ocean view, by all means take the mountains. January will be cold so don't expect to swim. A trip down south to the region of Calabria might also be fun. Thanks for the post. Have fun!

    I remember driving in Sorrento in my leased car and then going on a tour bus along the Almalfi Coast, one of the most craziest and scary driving experiences I've ever done! Very beautiful place however it is a must see!

  • @AldimarVideo
    @AldimarVideo  13 лет назад

    From Amalfi to Sorrento there are two routes ... along the coast or over the mountains. Each are beautiful in their own way. I am sure there are some mountain roads in VA that approach these in Italy. From what I saw of the Buses, I think I might prefer being in my own car. Though the buses are safe, my car is closer to the road. Thank you for posting. Have a great year!

  • @AldimarVideo

    Well, you should block out an entire day for the drive. It goes from Sorrento to Vietri. But if you only have 1/2 a day, then the trip might be from Sorrento to Possitano. And if you are brave at heart, then take the windy road to the top of Possitano. Watch out for the Busses. Enjoy. We have been back three times and can't get enough.

  • @AldimarVideo
    @AldimarVideo  13 лет назад

    Yes you are correct with my Italian. This was my first time using the language and I was rather clumsy. However, regarding the sea we are both correct. The Tyrhenian sea (Mar Tirreno) is north of the bay of Naples whereas the Mediterrranean sea is south of the bay. The Amalfi coast could be considered to be on both seas depending upon which side of the coast you were on. Again though, some maps place the Mar Tirreno on both sides of the coast. I need to go back to Italy ...

  • @AldimarVideo

    Hy im from Amalfi^^ and i can say you did a wonderfull job, the only wrong thing is that i can tell you that where you wrote Sorrento Town, its still Amalfi, it also the begining, but i can see that in the first step and the last step you was going and arrived in Sorrento, not Sorrento center but Meta di Sorrento, I hope you enjoied the trip and also the coffe with the Sanbuca, its not a speciality of the place, but i love Sambuca :P.Hope to have you soon in uss place ;)

    Ciao Gianfranco ... yes you are correct. When this video was made we were just learning Italian. Caffe' Corretto e' perfetto per me. Also I used the wrong word for "double". I should have said "doppio". Oh well, the Italians haven't shot me yet when I made a mistake. We have found them to be very loving and forgiving ... so long as people try. We have been to the Amalfi Coast twice now, and hope to make it a few more times. Grazie mille per la sua risposta.
