    Drawn from psychology and meditation, this exercise guides you through techniques to strengthen your concentration by focusing on your breath. Use this tutorial on its own or with the shorter Concentration Practice exercise.
    Concentration is the foundation for both learning and performance. Improving concentration can help with how to perform, how to focus, how to study and how to learn. The exercises in this Playlist draw on years of experience in psychology and meditation to help you strengthen your concentration by focusing on your breath.

    Excercise Order:
    Intro: Placing the base breath by focusing on inside of the nose, feeling the air flowing in
    Step 1) Focusing the breath by mentally counting for each in breath and out breath up to 10. Then restarting the cycle. 5 minutes is enough for begginners.
    Step 2) Focusing the breath by mentally counting for each in and out breath up to 10. We are twicing the breaths up to 10 compared to step 1. 5 minutes is enough for begginners.
    Step 3) Focusing the breath by mentally saying "in" for each in breath and "out" for each out breath. 5 minutes is enough for begginners.
    Step 4) Focusing the breath itself by saying nothing, focusing only the feelings of in breath and out breath.
    During the excersice: Mind will be distructed. Be aware of the distruction and do not chase it. Mentally say "distructed" and countinue to focus the breath.
    Thank you!

    The Concentration exercises in Mouni Sadhu's Book, "Concentration" "A guide to mental Mastery" are much better but you have to read every word of his instructions and then be scrupulous about doing everything exactly as Mouni Sadhu says to do. Also, you must have patience. Muni Sadhu says that doing the exercises in his book will actually change your brain for the better. I did these exercises for years and found that there was always the possibility to increase your ability to concentrate. Just to give an example; at one time I could concentrate so focused on the Present, that the past and the future actually disappeared. In that State I experienced complete freedom and Joy. There was no past to feel guilty about and no future to be afraid of.

    Maybe you felt anxious or depressed for some time without noticing. Even though this is an exercise to boost your concentration, it forces you to be in the present, feel your body and get in touch with your feelings. Maybe our anxiety or our depression exercises can give you some relief. Otherwise you should contact a professional. We wish you all the best!

    Is it normal to experience some closed eye visuals while doing this exercise? It's kinda creeping me out. I get some visuals, sometimes I see faces, get startled and get a rush of anxiety that ruins the exercise a bit. I can still focus on my breathing but each second it gets more intense and harder to focus on the exercise. Some days I couldn't sleep at night because of these sights :/

    • @YouProductionsUS
      @YouProductionsUS  10 лет назад +1

      The exercises shouldn't be causing anxiety, so I suggest you stop using them. You may also want to talk about your experiences with a professional meditation or psychology specialist. Thanks for your feedback.

    • @whynottalklikeapirat
      @whynottalklikeapirat 8 лет назад +2

      +HBangerHS It is certainly normal to have visuals prior to falling asleep or at the level of what some refer to as "day dreaming". For me they tend to increase and become more vivid if I concentrate deliberately on them. It's not just faces though, it can be anything or quite abstract, but there should be no rush of anxiety unless it's just that you are surprised that it happens in the first place. Having visuals while being unable to sleep does not necessarily mean the images are what keeps you awake. If you are stressed that'll do it and you could just be having normal visuals on top of that. Google "hypnagogic image" or "hypnogogic state" for more info on normal range visuals.

    • @HBangerHS
      @HBangerHS 8 лет назад

      whynottalklikeapirat That's a very good reply, even after almost 2 years. It had been a really stressful time when I commented on this. The visuals were new to me but now I'm pretty much used to the hypnagogic imagery when meditating, and I see them as a good sign prior to sleep because I usually fall asleep soon after they come. Anyway, thanks for the reply!

      Haha thanks - I knew it was a long shot but I was actually wondering where you'd be with it today, so thanks for replying. Happy to hear you moved on ;D

    • @almagore1
      @almagore1 8 лет назад +2

      +HBangerHS Visual images are thoughts. Again, the key is to be relaxed and "not interested in the images or any thoughts. This is the meaning of the Buddhist saying. "If you see the Buddha on the road Kill him. No thought or image is important. Relax and let them go. If you fight them that is giving them interest. Be not interested in any thoughts. The only thing that interests you is doing the exercise. Success or not is not of interest during the exercise. If a thousand thoughts come So what? I am not interested. I am only interested in doing the exercise in the present moment. All of this is normal, relax. If it takes 2 years to achieve 10 minutes of pure concentration, so what. I am not interested. Al

  • @preciousjewels9
    @preciousjewels9 9 лет назад +2

    Good video but far to much talking as he explains why concentration is good for you. I simply want to do the exercises and don't need to hear someone providing background information as to the importance of concentration. That drove me crazy as I just started to meditate and those irritating explanations started AGAIN!

    • @Mookivator
      @Mookivator 9 лет назад

      The whole point is he's telling you what to do IN FULL so you can confidently practise on your own. You're telling me you've only done this once and that's it or you use this video every time you do it?!

    • @preciousjewels9
      @preciousjewels9 9 лет назад

      Lucas I have meditated in the past and could sit for 2 hours concentrating only on my breath. I don't the need the BASICS on how to mediate but simply the music and someone keeping me focused on my breath. I don't need to know that meditation leads to higher states of concentration and less forms of addiction. I already knew that and that is information is not needed for a meditation video.
