First of all, they had no reason to even enter her home as she reported a prowler. Even if she went to take a pot off the stove, they could have easily retreated outside. She was not armed.. she could have simply been having a mental episode. His threat was extreme and she responded in fear, and the fact that he said he would shoot her in the face I think is cause for premeditation.
It was to do with the SUV which she denied twice was hers. Turns out, it is her SUV! We can only speculate, cos Grayson didnt turn on his bodycam, wether Massey invited him in or not. What you mean she wasnt armed? She had a pot of boiling water which can cause great bodily harm. A Officer, according to the law, can use lethal force to defend themselves. This will all come down to who is the aggressor Massey or Grayson in court.

If you are in your own home engaging in common place goings about dwelling and a cop who doesn't belong there aggressively, illegally and unjustifiably points a gun at you, it is reasonable to believe you are about to be murdered. Hopelessly experienced and unequipped, she tried meagerly to shield her self against a very intentionally soon to arrive death. She didn't have a chance.
His initial force in threatening the victim at gunpoint was unlawful. Force that law enforcement uses has to be objectively reasonable snd, before the use deadly force in Illinois, law enforcement must exhaust all other alternatives. The fact that the woman had mental issues also places extra onus on the deputy in Illinois law. If you can’t reasonably justify his initial force, then you can’t claim his force in killing her was justified. His initial unlawful force would prompt anyone to fear for their life and a result of that is that they act out of sonic or self defense themselves. The video from the shooter’s perspective shows that the woman wasn’t making any overtly hostile movements when he drew his firearm and threatened her at gunpoint. Also, it doesn’t matter what the deputy thought “I rebuke you” is commonly understood to not be a threat. 🤷♂️
The deputy was responding to a 911 call, if I call 911 reporting someone is lurking around my house do you pull up and treat me like the criminal? I’m calling you to protect and serve not to take my life. Don’t ask me to take a boiling hot water off the stove then shoot me because you feel threatened that I took boiling water off the stove. Play the rest of the video and you will see how cold hearted the cop is even after she was down.🤦🏽♂️
@kountryedge No! She did not use the pot as a shield. Contrary to the many lies being perpetuated in the comments, she actually invited them in. However, she made them wait about 10 minutes before letting them in. What was she using that time for? She was using that time to get her pot of water boiling. Why did she have a pot of water boiling at 1:00 a.m.? She had the hot water to attack folks as motivated by her paranoid delusions. Another lie that's perpetuated is that the officers told her to take care of the pot. In actuality, they pointed out that they did not want a fire, and then she suddenly went for it. Rather than turning off the pot only, she carefully put on two oven mitts, then grasped the handles of the pot and spoke menacingly. If she had had a knife, the officers would been similarly justified since both are deadly force instruments. The kitchen and adjacent living room are very small rooms. This may be hard to see since you're looking at the scene through a body camera which has a fish-eye lense effect. There was no room in the home to do some running around away from her. A knife is considered as dangerous as a gun when you're within 20 ft when within 20 feet. She was a lot closer a lot closer than that.
Even if she was to throw the water where they were standing it wouldn't have reached them and if by chance it could they could have went out the front door. she only then threw the pot cause he over reacted and pulled the gun and started cursing her.
Where the hell do you see her lifting the pot over her head? She was not under investigation for a crime. She reacted naturally to someone pulling a gun on you. This is so sad.
Okay so water is heavy, it's not like she's really big and really strong, she's just an average woman so the only reason she would have been capable of throwing the water on him is because of proximity. The officer is the one who closed the distance between them, it was him that was going after her with a gun and her that needed to defend herself with a pot of water not her chasing him with the water and him defending himself with a gun. Honestly okay, shame on you if you are defending the actions of the cop!
If you look closer you can see that Ms. Sonya Massey poured the water from the stove into the sink and then she filled up the pot with more water, and when that unhinged cop told her to put the pot down she did saying that she was sorry but when she picked the pot back up she tried to use it as a shield because she knew that cop was gonna shoot her, retribution for Sonya Massey's mother of two.
