I agree with most of it, but I think Tavares doesn’t need to lose his captaincy with all the other issues. He’s got no foot speed, but hands a great. He’s a good locker room leader from all accounts, and hasn’t been Captain that long. I think Marner needs to go, as he needs to grow up. Nylander is a stud, Domi was amazing imho, and nobody should be surprised at how well the B’s shut down Matthews.
Keefe…maybe, as he still has the stink on some players from Babcock, who I think is a giant P.o.s. Marner recovered after for one season, and that’s been it.

But in the playoffs it is that one goal that changes a team so I disagree about it being "hilarious".
On his way out the door didn't Babcock say the Leafs will never win in the playoffs with this core group? 5 years later and he's tragcially correct.
The problem is 2 fold. 1 the leafs in general have a bad rep in attitude etc. but a lot of that blame goes towards the hockey analysts and media who brag and boast about each player giving them a swelled head and then management who gives these ludicrous contracts to players who don't deserve it. Then the fans themselves have such an entitled attitude it is sickening. Montreal fans brag constantly but they have proven more than what the leafs have done in the past decades

Management is the blame for the Leafs blunders the last 8 years? When you sign 4 players for over 1/2 the teams salary cap, it does not leave much money left, to attain, quality defenseman and solid goaltending! Players greed over Stanley Cup championships? Management must of got their Sports Management degrees, from Disneyland!

You know Toronto Maple Leafs made one major mistake in game 7 and it was not paying attention to Pasternak and it cost them 😢 .Next year Austin Mathews will be captain, Shanahan should be fired then if it takes Marner to waive his no move clause to make Toronto much more competitive in the playoffs and go deep then do it this is my opinion
I do think Shanahan have to go. You cant blame players for taking big salary, its GM and President job to think what is best for the team. I do think Marner should go too. In smaller hockey market he could find his full potential and enjoy game more. Keefe have to go too. He is good coach and not need to wait new job long, but team need new voice in lockerroom.
Either Trev goes to Marner and says "either you accept a trade, we'll do our best to get you where you'd like to go, but if you dont Im healthy scratching you for the entirety of your contract year" or they find a GM with a set of balls that will.. Im sorry, I LIKE Marner as a person, and I'd love to be sitting here talking about how the Leafs are possibly going to afford a 3x Cup winning MVP... but that just didnt happen...SOMETHING massive needs to change, Matthews is a non starter unless McDavid or Makar is coming back, Tavares has no value at his age and 1 year left, Willy just signed long term and was the 1 guy that produced this year...so, that leaves Marner....
Another sad news happened in Leafs' history. Losing a captain like that is very hard, right?

They won't strip Tavares of his C in the last year of his contract. Zero chance that will happen. Marner is not going anywhere next year, they are going to have to wait for him to walk. The reason is he wants all the money he can get and if he goes to another team and his numbers take a dive like Huberdeau and Gaudreau he will lose a ton on his next contract. He and his agent will do everything they can to stay in Toronto next season, mark my wiords.
Leaf tidbit, the last time the Leafs won the Cup the team picture was taken in black and white! Let that sink in!

The idiotic Babcock idea that youngsters need to wait their turn to earn their position on ice is the team's undoing. How long did Babcock hold Nylander back from his pro career? Shanahan is part of that hard headed old boys club mentality. This failed idea with the Tavares captaincy over Mathews is Shanahan's big mistake. This is so obvious now that Shanahan must pay the price with his own job & take Tavares with him.
Matthews avoids conflict at all costs, he just isn't captain material!
