Altough we like the Manx bothy very much, a wee video on location now and then is a nice break from the custom setting. Variation on the same theme makes the customer happy 😉 Nice video Ralfy!
Honestly, Ralfy has such a nice video personality and presence :) I simply like his way of talking and his points of view on everything he talks about, from the in depth analysis of alcoholic drinks to the basics of being human. I'm 29 year old who does not drink alcohol at all, but boy oh boy does Ralfy has me interested in his reviews. My personal best part is when he explains the actual source of the taste and aromas in whiskeys which comes from the wood and specific grains, and the temperature fluctuations and the "breathing" of the whiskey inside the barrel. So VERY interesting facts about how the world works. Thank you Mr. Ralfy. Cheers to your prosperity!
I agree 100% I am not a whiskey / bourbon / scotch drinker myself but I would be called a liar if I said I didn't enjoy listening to his reviews. His dedication and knowledge is awesome and his passion when he speaks about it is great. Its nice to listen to someone speaking in a profound way about something they have passion for. Thanks Ralfy!!!
slainte Ralfy. top vid...My malt bar journey has begun in the corner of my garage, got a little bar I bought from eBay...didn't cost alot... agree with you on lighting, so important, it needs to feel cosy and intimate. like the best kept secret in the land. small open flame... little cluster of candles is a great affordable way to capture the atmosphere.
The Bon Accord is heaven! Paul and Thomas are fantastic. Thomas gave me one of your Bonneville land speed record glen cairns last time I was there. I was born in 1971 same as the Bon Accord, that’s no coincidence 😂
Fantastic advice Ralfy. We are slap bang in the middle of making a home bar/snug/whisky room. We are trying to create that mood of a darkly lit, warm and cosy place you can sit drinking a malt whilst the rain hits off the window panes outside! It's great fun doing it and I'm finding your reviews really useful in selecting my malts! cheers
Great Video and Great timing Ralfy, as I was just finishing my personal Whisky bar, you gave some good ideas on making it personal to each malt lover, and have given me some idea's to add to my own. Look forward as always to your next video. Slainte' from the malt gang in Vernon, BC
I'll be moving to an apartment in October or November and have already picked out a spot for my "wee dram space", and most importantly it's been approved by "She Who Must Be Obeyed"! Sadly, our local bars/taverns/pubs are all "sports bars" with many televisions blaring constantly, not my kind of environment, and to top that off all they have to offer is Johnny Walker and bourbons, much like your experience in Las Vegas. There are a few small craft brewery's just opened and I plan on checking them out. You're always an inspiration Ralfy! Sincerely, Ossie
Thank you Jimmy! They poured the basement last week and the walls will go up fast. It's a nice quiet wooded location with white tail deer, turkeys, fox, and coyotes right out the front door. I'll be making a special spot for sipping a wee dram now and then. Take care, Ossie
Damn sittin at a bar with Ralfy and just drinking whatever you told me too and listening to your stories, now THAT would be the ultimate experience... cheers from California my friend.
I actually started building a bar in my den at home about a year ago. I ts a small 12' bar. I bolted an old library book shelf to the back wall and i have some shelves under the bar as well i have a minny refrigerator right near the bar i have a wood fireplace too. I have about 15 bottles of whiskey i have a couple brandies vodka rum dark rum spiced rum a couple bottles of wine. and irish cream and a coffee liquor. Its not too much. Just a quant little cave lol
Fine fine establishment, only frequented once or twice but both events a experience. I used to drive tour trucks and would be parked at the secc/ Hydro for a long old while and when I could I most certainly would
Ralfy, I think Disc 2 Vol 2 of the Cocteau Twins "Lullabies to Violaine," is the most engaging sustained music I have ever heard. I know it is a compilation, but whoever mastered that release is a musical genius. It flows.
If you get a chance listen to the way the CT's re-mastered and arranged the songs in this compilation . That side is something I could listen to forever.
Used to travel around Scotland with a good friend...he used to schmooze for branded whisky pitchers... Ended up with a small suitcase packed with them.........
By the way: it is also one of my favourite bars/pubs in Glasgow. Great and friendly staff. The only bad thing connected with drinking in that bar is the neccesity of waiting at Charing Cross railway station and washing out all the magnificent smells of whiskies with the stench from the sewage treatment plant (?)
I really enjoyed converting our old den into our home bar. I spend a lot of time waching horse racing and filming our videos for our channel. If you have a room that's not being used convert it to a home bar. You won't regret it. Cheers!
Hey Ralfy! I'll catch you in the Bon Accord one of these times. I've been relocated to the new Scottish Power corporate HQ just across the motorway so, not far to go.
This time last year you had a wee impromptu meet-up for RUclips fans in the Bon. Love that place. I’m sure I spied your bunnet in the Good Spirits office a couple of Saturdays ago too? 😜
Great video Ralfy! Nice to see you out and about! Really thought provoking as well. If any Malt-mates here have a malt bar already or decide to create one how can we see them? A Twitter hash tag perhaps? #RalfyMaltBar?
I enjoy your vids! If you haven't already, would you ever think of doing a video about any foods or snacks to eat with whisky? If you don't consider that a blasphemy, of course!
Housequake B, I'm not Ralfy, of course, but I really wanted to make this work. Closest I got was enjoying fresh persimmons with a sherried malt. But 99.99% of the time any food will detract from the spirit (to me). My own takeaway: sipping spirits shine solo, before and/or after a meal (or instead of ;) I'll enjoy whatever goes well with the meal (wine, beer, vodka) in moderation, then later proceed with a sipping dram. I also find that some food will detract from a dram of malt even hours later. In those cases cognac or armagnac or grappa or tequila tend to work well :)
Hi Ralfy, I think I have asked u this before but forgot the answer lmao When u use empty whiskey bottles as a decanter do u have to wash them out, or can you just use them as they are. Because I buy the 1.75 L and like to put it in smaller bottles, but I don't want to taste soap if I clean them.
. . . I rinse empty whisky bottles with some vodka, just to clear the previous flavours out the way, and it helps keep the cork moist and stops it shrinking.
Did that man at the till at 7.22 rolls his eyes at you!!?? I thought a lot of your ideas could be put to good use for any man shed, whiskey or model railways.
Dear Ralfy, Thank you for your very informative and useable video’s. Could you tell something about how to use a little cask, mentioned as a tip by Mike, to turn a “bad” or lesser whisky into something much nicer to drink? Thanks again for your inspiring work. Greetings, Marcel Bergmeester
Hey Ralfy, my wife got me a bottle of Laphroaig 15Y 200th anniversary. I plan to save opening it in 3yrs for our 15th wedding anniversary. My question is do you think it's okay to leave it in the tube it came in? It is in a cool dark place alongside my other bottles at least. Didn't you do a video about this a long time ago? Keep up the great work!
thanks ralfy Yesterday I tried my 1986 lagavulin distillery edition(Still my favorite whiskey) Compared to the new one, sadly There is no comparison at all...
An i have no friends Who drinks whisky. I have 1 friend Who likes a rum sometimes but thats it. Its all time just cheap beers . Good red wine. An cheap drinks. An get drunk. So it is just me Who like the finer stuff 😓

Brian Streufert So true Brian! :)
Exactically, we don't drink, we sip, taste, degustate, enjoy and geek out ;)

You have always been and still are my go to for solid information that I can actually use. Thank you sir!

Best wishes on the move Ossie. Make that apartment a home.

Fun video, very cool idea! Thanks for the video Ralfy!
Your Bothy doesn't need a heating upgrade-the small drafted fire place is part of it's charm.
Thanks for this Ralfy! Practical and useful! Nice location by the way 😊👌🥃!
Watch out Ralfy, there's a drunk octopus there looking for a fight 😂
I cannot see those hooks anymore and not think that! haha
on location but with some background noise - Thanks Ralfy!

. . . I saw them play in Glasgow Barrowlands many years ago, brilliant experience.
If you get a chance listen to the way the CT's re-mastered and arranged the songs in this compilation . That side is something I could listen to forever.
I wonder how they would be live-I might be disappointed.
Thanks Ralfy!
Congrats on the 100,000 Mark! Recommended by TheWhiskeyVault and absolutely love your videos, keep them coming!
Some whisky are so good.. I just wonder how man can make such good drink... Its amazing skill, tradition and art...
Yuir back hame in GLESGA, milad! Very good advice, sir!
Used to travel around Scotland with a good friend...he used to schmooze for branded whisky pitchers... Ended up with a small suitcase packed with them.........
Love the Bon Accord. Paul is a true whisky legend.
Is it just a coincidence that your favourite whisky bar is very close to The Mitchell Library ... ? Greetings from Poland.
Ralfy just guaranteed a weekly invitation to mini malt bar openings across the globe.
First time watching this Ralfy and a very poignant moment when Paul appeared. That absolute gentleman is much missed by many I'm sure.
Bon Accord is a cozy bar. Some fine old malts on the top shelf there.
I really enjoyed converting our old den into our home bar. I spend a lot of time waching horse racing and filming our videos for our channel. If you have a room that's not being used convert it to a home bar. You won't regret it. Cheers!

. . . you did, I was catching up with the gossip !
That’s a bigger bar....I’d easily fit. No disco lights either. Nice! I wonder if they have cider and Calvados? Lol!
Thanks Ralfy! 🥃
love you Ralfy.. you became a fav. mate online very quickly... cheers

A great curry meal is so far the best companion to a whisky!!!!

I have 2 left in the running that I am bidding on!

Love "The Bon"!

. . . buy a five litre oak wood cask and simply fill it with something to see what 'evolves' in flavour.
Ralfy I'd love to see a tour of your 'manx bothy' or if you have done so already, tell me the title of the video. Cheers.
You've gotta check out Jack Rose in Washington DC--find Harvey

Great Video! What food would you recommend to with a good malt? Sausage and cheese?
