    Democracy doesn't require disagreement.
Democracy requires an allowance for disagreement.

The irony of the title really tickles me. Last I checked if one disagrees with people they will say “see that is why our democracy is dying” or “we need to save our democracy from (insert group)”.

What is the essence of a democracy? Well, it is that the people rule. Why then is it so that all nations that call themselves democracies have what you call a representative democracy? The people are not ruling directly by voting on issues but the people vote for representatives in their parliament and then those representatives carry out what they call the will of the people but which too often becomes the will of the hidden power elite.
Why is it that so many of the older democracies know they are in a crisis because the people’s confidence in the government is falling, yet they do not know what to do about it? Well, it is very simple. It is because in those older democracies a power elite has formed and that power elite is not willing to let go of its power.
If you go to just about every democratic nation, you can ask the people who are elected representatives, who are in the bureaucratic establishment, who are in the educational institutions, the financial institutions, and the press and the media. If you ask these people what they think about this topic, most of them will say that the population, the people of their nation, are not capable of running the nation, of ruling the nation, because they simply don’t know enough about how to run the country. They don’t understand the complicated dynamics involved with running a country.
You may, if you want to be kind to this elite, say that they are right. In many nations the people, if you look at the broader population, do not know enough about how their country works or how, for example, the economy works, so that they could rule the country. Can you see that when this statement is made by a power elite, it is hollow, it is hypocritical because who is in charge of the educational system and the press and the media of that country? Is it not the very power elite who claim that the people don’t know enough? If that power elite has not educated the people as to how the country works, whose responsibility is it?
If they have not educated the people, it is not because the people are not capable of being educated but because the power elite is not willing to educate the people because they do not want to share power.

Disagreement definitely exists in a democracy Or another government system.
It's not a democracy that requires disagreement . Democracy also requires acceptance of differences of opinion in order to achieve the same goal

The problem is that on television talk shows and on social media, conversations are like boxing matches with fans. Nobody has an interest in changing their mind, nobody will say that what you say is right, even if they thought so, because it would be a defeat in front of their ultras. Many are also intellectually dishonest and in order to earn an appearance fee they are willing to speak badly of their own mother, if this pleases the niche they are referring to, and the same goes on social media, where there are likes and interactions and many are willing to write the worst stupidities in order to obtain them.
We live in a society in which there are more and more individualists, and many of them also want to erode the rights of the weakest, and not only.
When my father hears news about the war in Ukraine, he doesn't care if innocent people are dying under the bombs thrown by a criminal, he is only interested in going back to paying diesel at the same price as in 2021, and for this reason he is on Putin's side, and when he goes to vote he acts accordingly.
It is not easy to get out of this situation.

Democracy like when the natives of iceland collectively wanted to ban circumcision and then blackmailed with the the threat to its tourism by a piwerful but vanushingly small minority?
Is this the word democracy that you triumphantly beat your chest too by reapting it so many times?

In spirit of this talk. I disagree that democracy should be about growth. It should be about delivering primarily improving the welfare of people in a democracy. I disagree we should evaluate all investments in their economic return (as with chinas belts and road initiative). Western media also is frequently propaganda in a different way to Chinas.
I do agree that democracy is vital and more resilient than authoritarianism. That constructive debate is important.
He doesn’t mention that one of the biggest causes for erosion of democracy is financialisation - the shift of power from people to people with extreme wealth who own and run things non-democratically and buy our media to promote their propaganda.
A good democracy has a media that is free from private interests and one where people are empowered and one where our politicians are held to account, not in growth but how their actions improve or impact public welfare and the health of our planet. Growth, our economy is simply a means that has been confused and communicated in place of social welfarr - the outcome

Have you been to China? China is totally different with Russia and you know what? China is lots of rural states. Totally different with developmental state with Korea and Japan. I think US is not good model for democracy. But it doesnt mean that I give applaud to autocracy one. It is not Yes or No and Good or Bad issue. It is cultural and combination thing

Democracy is not communism but it has limits and imperfections. Just because a country is democratic, it doesn’t mean yoiu have the freedom to do whatever you want without consequences.

What on earth are you talking about? Democracy was created in Athens, in 508 BCE. It is the system of government that ended tyranny (please look up the definition of tyranny). While Communism as we know it, was created by Marx and Engels in 1848 CE.

God loves you and cares for you so that this message reaches you. God is the one who created this large universe and controls it completely. The greatest loss a person loses in this life is that he lives without knowing God who created him and knowing the Messenger of Muhammad, the last of the messengers, and the Islamic religion, the last of the heavenly religions. Great intelligence, before you believe in something or not, is to read it, study it, and understand it well, and after that you have the choice to believe in it or not to believe in it. I advise you to do this now, before you no longer have time to do so. Life is very short. It is just a test, just a passage to eternal life. Great advice to those who... Understands
