Great video Keith. I've bought a fair few digital and film cameras off e-bay. I have to say it is my favourite place to buy. I have been unlucky a couple of times. I bought a Keystone 110 film camera described as working but it didn't, (shutter doesn't fire) including the postage it was less than a fiver so I didn't bother complaining or returning it. I did buy a digital camera which also didn't work (despite saying it was working) but again it was very cheap, I did contact the seller but they never answered my message. I did score at a car boot with the Kodak Cresta III for £2 as the bloke wasn't sure it worked - everything looks ok inside and the shutter fired so I bought it.

I have bought several cameras and lenses from ebay and always try to have a chat with the vendor. It's good to hear what they have to say before committing to making a bid or buy it now. House Clearances are great for cheap stuff as they just want whatever they can get for the items. Estate Sales are a bit more expensive as they have a sentimental value as well as financial. Often a chat with someone selling Dad or Grandad's collection of photography equipment will tell you how well it was looked after.

Good point Jim. I suppose I like a little bit of risk and buying stuff online is my version of bungee-jumping. Cheers, Keith

There are NONE old cameras that work as intended. if people say it works, most of them just say that because if clicks. -they all need a "CLA"- if a seller says is "CLA-d" but they cannot offer papers for it... again. does not worth your time. A CLA , in a shop costs A LOT. say NO when they tell you "factory grease" or other bullshit.
if you buy cameras from old USSR countries they will be overpriced, and the same crappy quality. (more then as anything else). * if you want to buy from the shop from Finland(?), buy just the things that are checked/ working proper. the rest are just overpriced.
Cameras in box (specially from ussr) are the worst. most likely they never worked proper. (but they are nice because of the box... ) ** if they are cheap/amateur cameras.
*** there are two "huge" ebay sellers from japan- again overpriced items, they don't care about quality checks, they lie in the description. you will not ship the thing back :) - buy from the other ones.

When you buy old cameras you have to be prepared for them not working perfectly and very few people have the skills to repair or service them. It is definitely a case of buyer beware. Cheers, Keith

      Yes. exactly what I said.
I also can say that a bunch of "profesional sellers" flood cameras with WD40 to make them "click" but making them also needing a full disassembly, and in some cases even dangerous to "click".
There" are a bunch of people that repair cameras, and a bunch of people that learn to do it. (see facebook groups of thousands)
One can thing about old cameras just like classic/old cars:
Not all old cars worth the hassle. they such suck.
A nice vintage care that is perfect costs a lot because of has a lot of work into it.
A lot of people will try to sell you "lemons."
