I'm glad to see that people are willing to acknowledge the great work that this man has done instead of wallowing in gossip and innuendo involving a nasty split up.
neil--look at it this way: one accusation, and from someone who hates his guts. there should be a long history of accusations, problems, whatever, but there just isn't anything remotely close to that. sheeesh, on the other hand, it could be true, but i just don't get that sense of anything going on.
Thanks Evan! One of my favorite directors of all time! He's so funny, deep and full of imagination. The rule I liked the best was "define success for yourself", because nowadays it's so easy to fall in the trap of assumption according to which success is mandatory linked with money or fame for instance. Rather, and to me, success is a matter of subjectivity, personal perception of the things we did and the goals we achieved. The most important thing is to feel great and peaceful with ourself, to be proud of our work and to do our best.
It's sad how women can use sexual misconduct as a revenge tool and face no consequences themselves. Destroying someones reputation like that should be considered as bad as rape imo and face equal consequences. Using it for revenge the way she did is disgusting.
"Broadway Danny Rose" is my all time favorite Woody Allen movie. Hysterical. Same thing with the wonderful "Radio Days," another Allen hit that must be seen.
Well, I too do adore both of them, guys .... just as much as I adore them all, though. Actually, I think none of this true poet and wonderful man’s some 50 movies has ever never desappointed me as a spectator. Either in drama or in comedy, he’s the one and only Mr Magic to my generation. And that wonder has been lasting for at least 50 years now. Take care, we love you.
I love all of them and I will eventually get your book and you're a great motivator and smart to put Woody Allen clips because he talks straightforward and I trust his sensibilities and his authenticity and he insist on being himself I like one of the pointy made where 80% of success is just showing up ! again will tune in again and eventually buy your book!
Thank you so much for making this video. Woody Allen has always been my favorite director. I will pay it forward by trying my best to create good projects myself.
First, Evan, thank-you for posting this excellent clip/piece. From one of our best - The Woodman. I agree number-two is critical, crucial - the most important. I remember once in film school I thought aloud (after reading to the class/co-chair)... "My goal is to write something critic-proof." "That everyone will like." "Something that'll do great box office..." "So that I can selfishly continue." I was corrected by other artists. Great, great writers/peers/fellow film students. Like Don Bohlinger, Joe Minion, Jim Nathan, James Koch. Much more developed than I was. Woody, of course, a major influence. To the point I learned (eventually), "When writing please/satisfy only yourself." ...
No Question to ME..."Execute Your Vision" is the most important to an Artist. That's why great artists are so anal because they are trying to make their idea a reality on paper or film(video now) or recording tape/CD or whatever medium they use. Artists seek Perfection
Thanks for this great compilation! I love your channel. So much inspiration to take in. Blessings to you. p.s. I like that Woody said it's a good thing he became successful so early as it saved him from a life of crime. :D So cool to know that might have been what partially inspired my favorite comedy of his 'Small Time Crooks'. :)
Woody is a clarinet-talent. He should work together with Germany s clarinet -gigant Martin Schmidt-Hahn.They both would fit in old-time -jazz very well
After four of five of these--Stephen King / J K Rowling / Quentin Tarentino / and the fourth entry being-- Woody Allen--I felt that many of these lessons boil down to creative time, '"the making time to create and making time to write"" therein you see it flow; there in Tarentino---said 11:30 to 7:00 pm was his creating---window. Then he had a cool it down in the pool wherein he noted what was good and what was his idea's he felt expressed and flowed---well (and) what he would revisit and or re-tool + tune in and tune up or whatever he might tune out, during the processing filter tools--to tune them all into a vision "vision tuning stuff." Creative stuff in comes out. Then you try to bag it. The bagging it when it gets written down taking out of your head to transfer onto the paper. More so that George Carlin thing "which is to take the idea put it on paper bag it up and then--staying--with it."? The how to. The how to keep the ideas the brain catches and the hand that must put on the page. It would be so easy to adhere to #2 if you're making tons of $. (He finally said it later that he was basically immediately successful because he started writing comedy, and while he loathed what they did to it, his first script was a hit.)
@3:29 -- Woody *never* got over his horrible experience on "Pussycat." Apparently that's what drove him to become a director. He never wanted to see another of his scripts get mangled by another filmmaker.
I was already super inspired at no.2. "Get the joy out of the work" and not out of the reactions you get out of it from others. I'm an aspiring writer (among many other things), and when I try to write stories that will have mass appeal, I always reach a blank because I don't know how to recreate the success of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. However, when I write for myself, because I like my own stories, I usually write stories that may not appeal to the masses but have been appreciated by some people. :) So my aim is to just do that now. The false accusations aren't going to last. You almost feel the tide starting to turn already. Plenty of people are starting to question the gaps narrative of his guilt.
I have to respectfully disagree with some of this. There's a reason it's called Show BUSINESS. Trying to combine the artist mentally (love of your craft) with making an actual vocation (making art that people want to buy, in this case tickets) is the wrong way to succeed in entertainment. Woody Allen is definitely talented but he would have no career if his art didn't appeal to people who wanted to pay to see it. It's easy for an old rich guy to tell struggling artists to do what they love and don't compromise but Allen and every other massively successful "artist" wouldn't be where they are unless his or her product had value in the marketplace. Example: M. Night Shamalan's first box office success, "Six Sense" was huge. How huge? So huge that even though he admits he wasn't sure people would get it, it sold so many tickets, (are you ready for this?) his NEXT movie could have been written on used toilet paper and IN CRAYON and he still would have received a movie deal. Why is that? Because his first movie was so financially successful. Most people would not argue that his following films were not as good as that first one. But even though they're not as great, they must still make enough money so that he is rewarded with an opportunity to make his next film. Allen is no different. In this video he says that he was hired as a screenwriter to write whatever movie it was that he was talking about and they butchered it. And he was embarrassed. And he hated the movie. But that movie he admits was the highest grossing comedy at that time. Now would he have been able to go on to do what he's done if that movie was not as successful? Probably not. And the proof here in lies in the fact that there are exponentially more unsuccessful people trying to pursue a career in any form of entertainment or art, then there are ones who even earn a living at it, let alone become famous. If I was coaching people who wanted to be successful in a medium that is 100% dependent on whether it survives and thrives in the marketplace, I would say use your talent and your passion to create something that has a better chance at selling more tickets. Then, when any of your projects hits the world the way the Sixth Sense did, at that point, even temporarily, you could do whatever you want to do.
As my old friend Wade would say "thank you for thanking me" and I will say that your welcome Evan; I enjoyed the circle group packaging of informative--information ( when time permits will check the other segments you high lighted for me to check out. Myself, I came out late with my book encouraged by George Carlin. THE BEACHCOMBER Inside The JFK Cold Case Files 2017. We tested it two years with the website up. We ran it to be sure the negative forces could not shut it down. Eventually----Today: Were just nailing down Newspaper Reviews--The most laughable ridiculousness' part of this journey--I could have 20' fired like in a heartbeat (and) I''m not in existence to expose weaker people or the incompetence therein; I was very saddened by all that. My pre-supposition theme with our Barnes and Noble shut down in Santa Monica--were counting now more so upon you Evan? Basically, the fact that truth flows' better in certain venues, " I understand why Newspapers are dying away," I am not out to kill them but the level of incompetence and ridiculous people with jobs with them is terribly disturbing--so keep doing what you do. The battle last I thought I would face was the idiot levels in that area. I am going to have to have a few critic's, drug tested and given a competence testing curve, assignment; then they might let them go and replace them with some like more decent folk. "God Bless The Child That Got His Own--And Thanks For The Internet--Thanks' To Evan' Doing What He Does." Michael Gering
Ok, everytime the include Parker Posey in the frame then that's "her shot"...why is Woody talking over her shot? It makes me want to add subtitled dialogue to the scene: "geez, why is he droning on so long? When do I get to talk?"
Disclaimer: I like the overall sentiment of the video; BUT: Is it just me, or is this more of a top 7? I mean the 3 of these are unnecessary... "Start doing it" that's the same as "Execute your vision". "Make The Right Choice" ImHUMBLEo, that's disgustingly vague. You don't know if it's right until you've reaped some sort of benefit from it or you're just trying to see the silver lining in a bad decision that you thought was right at the time lol. And "Have Fun" is the same as "Get The Joy Out Of Your Work" AND "Enjoy Your Life"I can't decide if I'm being a stickler or making a helpful criticism but I thought it was weird no one else pointed this out. PEACE! \/
I walked out of the cinema during ,,What's New, Pussycat?'' after 15-20 mins. It's pure SHIT and I certainly didn't wanna waste no time on watching Peter The Tool getting off on himself.

That's just the life of a writer. Every word counts in creating something great, whether it's a novel or a script. Just remember what Hemingway said: Write drunk, edit sober. Which means, let yourself go when you're writing, Just let the words appear onto the page as your instinct desires and then whip them into shape in the editing process.

DECONSTRUCTING HARRY IS WOODYS BEST MOVIE
Hope you enjoyed it. 😊 #Believe - Feb
LOL 😅 #Believe - Feb
do Sidney Crosby top 10
I believe the sound quality could be acceptable given a bit of effort!
What's wrong? :) #BTA1396 Veljko
@@EvanCarmichael Nothing wrong if this was cable access.
PEACE! \/

@@EvanCarmichael Evan, why did you use the microphone that came with the cereal box?
What about K-Rino, this artist has over 30 studio albums released independently and dropped 7 albums at one time.

i write the word "the," on the paper. stop , look at it and tear it up. too hard on myself.

Number one rule for making good RUclips videos, don't use the mic on the camera.
Rule no. 1: Invest in decent audio.
