Marmite's marketing slogan is "You either love it or hate it" for a reason. Also, you might like Twiglets. A UK wheat snack which is coated in a Marmite-like coating.

It's basically an umami (meaty savoury) flavour. You need a tiny amount on buttered toast spread thinly. I think its quite good to eat, lots of vitamins but the high salt content less so. You can also use it as the base for stews and casseroles, even in vegetarian cooking to make things like 'shepherds pie' using diced aubergine, pulses or soya mince instead of minced beef or lamb (along with onion, herbs, mushrooms, peppers, carrots, tomatoes, mashed potato etc). A teaspoonfull of Marmite mixed with boiling water and a vegetable stock cube makes a good meaty base for such a dish with 2 servings. If you are doing a stirfry and run out of soy sauce, use Marmite as above to make a good soy sauce substitute.
Cheese and Marmite sandwiches should be made with a mature cheddar cheese and white bread in my opinion. I used to eat them a lot as a kid. I have really sensitive tastebuds so I'd always go very light on the Marmate, a minuscule amount compared to what you had on the toast. I dont recommend a milder cheese. Also don't be afraid to add some crisps to it. That brings it to the next level. I'd suggest either cheese and onion or if you can find it there's actually Marmite flavoured Walkers. Cathedral City is good cheddar cheese to use and easily found.
@E_Rico It's just a safe bet. I know there are better and cheaper cheeses around but you can find Cathedral City in pretty much all supermarkets so that's why I suggested it.

You’re supposed to have lots of butter on your toast and a very small amount of marmite. The melted butter is the vehicle to spread the marmite across the toast. Spaghetti tossed in butter with marmite and a sprinkle of parmesan is a revelation. I would imagine it would work well with noodles too. Marmite mixed with mayonnaise and with thick cut chips (fries).
Only been on this journey since the UK edition, love the seemless edition of the lady. All takes so far on point, well done for successfully eating marmite, the butter is indeed crucial and ratios are on point for me 👏
yeeeees! I love it when someone 'gets' marmite 😂- it's definitely easy to over do it, and you're completely right about the butter.... thick white bread, plenty of butter, thin layer of marmite whilst it's all still warm: incredible.
I like finely sliced cucumber with Marmite in a sandwich (white bread) - the cucumber helps to mellow out the saltiness. You still need to use the Marmite sparingly, of course. Edit: Butter is indeed essential with Marmite (at least in my opinion) and if it's freshly spread on the toast it helps to spread the Marmite around, as does the warmth of the toast itself. Warmer Marmite is more spreadable.
The best way to eat marmite is with a really strong cup of hot milky tea.. Yorkshire tea is 1 of my faves.... 1st take a swig of tea, then follow it with some very buttery marmite on toast and then finish with another swig of tea.... the mix of flavours does something quite wonderful to the taste buds
