Please Porsche, I know we are living in an era where turbocharged engines are more present than ever... but please don't stop making the GT3 with that amazing naturally aspirated flat 6 !! Cheers!
I guess the GT3 stays (over short or long) non-turbo charged. However soon the beast will come out: the GT2 - and this was always turbo charged... And it will have a completely different appeal. It will be insane fast, and for sure totally brutal. The last GT2 was quicker and more powerful than the Carrera GT... maybe the next one will do the same with the 918?
As long as they use NA engine in racing, they will have to keep a NA flat 6 in the 911 range. Same reason why the Cayman GT4RS will have a NA flat 6. Needed for racing homologation.
NA is overrated sometimes, usually comes with shitty torque and you gotta really wind the engine up to get any where. People always shit on the turbocharged cars but I love the effortless speed due to low end torque, the violent kick of all the extra torque and ease of tunability that comes with them. To each his own I guess.
what a nice car. 7.07 around Nordschleife. It is a dream for every carguy. Thank you Porsche for giving us back the Handschaltung. So you can fool much more around with this car and let the wheels spinning. With manual its again the one and only dream car for me
Whittle Moore yeah but the gt3 rs did 7:06 and the driver that did the official nurburgring time could've pushed harder. I believe that the driver could have pushed more.
This channel is the best thing to happen in automotive journalism since Best MOTORing. These videos make me feel like I'm 15, wasting time in the high school library.
Michael McDonald no he'll just say something along the lines:"I guarantee you the 911 R will be fine. You guys don't even know. The R is something else the sound the manual box the feeling uhh." Then he'll turn to Farshad and say:"We've seen when we tested the 991 Carrera with a manual it was so easy it wasn't like the R." Farshad will say:"Yeah yeah yeah. btw can I say something? btw the Carrera with the naturally aspirated engine sounded nothing NOTHING like the R." then Ale will add:"Yeah dude. the raw feeling of the R is something else"
stubones I never thought of this before but you're right... I can't recall any other really awesome car that came out this year that would compare to this? Can anyone refresh my mind? I don't think there is much.
Reginald R AMG GTR, 720S, Huracan Performante, 812 Superfast. Not necessarily direct rivals to the 991.2 GT3 but these will probably be some of the cars in this years ECOTY
Reginald R certainly cars like the performante, 720S and a few other great cars ranging from GT cars, coupes to hot hatches will be in the mix but EVO like a GT3 and this car, as Former EVO dude Jethro said, has moved the goal posts on massively. It is the most complete evo car this year. Chassis 5*, manual option 5*, exhaust note from Factory fitted Akrapovic exhaust 5*. It will win ECOTY fairly easily. I've absorbed every single ECOTY since 1998 and I'd bet £1k this wins :)
So only now do we hear about the 'silly pdk surge' of the previous GT3 and the 'synthetic' feeling in the 911R?! At the time they are all reviewed without criticism. No car is perfect. There should always be criticism to go with the praise. But every new Porsche model seems to be exempt until the next one comes out.
Its true. Porsche dont care what they say about older models, so long as journalists praise the actual ones. Highly dishonest in my opinion but hey, there is an army of Porsche fanboys that will be happy to disagree.
I was expecting a lynch mob, no doubt they are sharpening their pitchforks and will be along soon! New car does sound amazing though, I'm not doubting that. I'm amazed Porsche haven't hiked the base price further in anticipation of the likely demand, yet it will only serve to fuel the buying frenzy. Premiums will be large. The first owners are laughing all the way to the bank as long as they don't use them. Car flippers delight!
The graphic nature of seeing the Porsche dancing on the visceral edge of adhesion in this video, confirms Jethro as one of the finest motoring journalists I have had the pleasure of following all these years. It would be fabulous to see Henry Catchpole reuniting with you on Top Gear going forwards.
the GT3 Touring is brilliant ... choose lightest weight spec PCCB’s and LWB’s add lithium battery (minus 35 lbs) and side muffler delete (minus 35 lbs) and best modern pure drivers road car !!!!
The fact that everybody talks about the same car in a same moment (EVO, Auto Express, Carfection, DRIVE, Autocar and so one..) gives unique opportunity to compare and see who's really On Top. "Primates Trinity" aka "C.H.M. Team" (i'm just looking for cool nickname :) have best camera operators, coolest schots and greatest editing. They have Jethro to craft words, but above all they have BALLS :p. This last F***ing part, like a pinch of spice, well placed and expected there, but so often omited by others. Driving is an emotional experience (at least should be) so reporting should signify this emotion, and this time you have nailed it perfectly. Thank you Jethor.
People were crazy about the 911R because it was supposed to be the last manual so its value was through the roof. Now that it's no longer the case, the value is going to plummet. It was never a collectors car. There is nothing separating it from the other GT models other than its manual box and now there is a newer, better one.
I like the fact you said that at the end. It really is a bit ridiculous that these cars can have huge premiums on them when they're are not worth the extra money.
I love love love this video..currently have a manual 718GT4 and aspire to climb to the top of the tree..great stuff Jethro...but this is old..wheres the new material please..??
Best interview yet !! Honest vs Other comparison biased to the R and retaining its status ... ridiculous arguments of the Touring about too noisy ?? And only 90% of the R ... how about spec'ing the Touring with PCCB's for apples to apples ... thank you for an excellent job !!
Superb review. A lot of them out there but I think these two combined are the best. I particularly like your last comment re: £500k for a 911R. You said what the world and his wife are all thinking ... good job. Can’t wait for my GT3 to arrive in 2 weeks. That engine will have its work cut out mind to best my 458 😮 .....
Its a sportscar. Its meant to be involving and make you feel in control of all that 911 greatness. Get a manual. Also for resale down the line, manual is where the value will be for a while i think.
They are both going to be awesome, I have a 991.1 GT3 with PDK that I love. I want the car to drive but I would be an idiot not to think about resale, Porsche dealers very much pushing to PDK
In the broader spectrum. In 20 years of even 50 most of us we'll be driving electric cars. The 911 will be one of the true icons of the combustion engine era. I would want something that fits that profile i think. As close as possible to the first cars and as far away as possible from every form of automation.
Porsche just slashed the 911R's value with this vastly superior GT3. So if for some inscrutable reason you fancy yourself a 911R now may be the time to take a look at the second hand market - you're likely to find some pretty disconcerted owners and some very good deals.
I'm more of a Ferrari fan (*F430 = DREAM CAR*), but i like this 2018 911 gt3. Great looks! Great performance! I also like that it's naturally aspirated (don't like turbos for some reason..). Heh heh, if the money is ever right.....
I haven't driven either of the cars (not surprisingly) but the 911R is more of a GT car, is it not? The focus is driver engagement and driver experience.. Does not really seem fair to compare it to the brand new GT3 which is Porsches track-day car. Sure the 911R could have a PDK, turbos, more aero and all that and be way faster buuuut that would kind of defeat the purpose of it. Comparing apples to oranges if you ask me
I'm this close to placing an order for the GT3 in manual. But my hesitation is, if I should wait for the RS version. And if I do, will it be also available in manual? My Porsche dealer is coy about the details to be sure.
"The GT3, for me, has it covered. Such is the relentlessness of the 911's evolution." "And if you paid half a million quid for a 911R, you're a fucking idiot." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Shame they've brought the GT3 down in numbers to GT3 RS levels of availability. The GT3 imo should be the one that most people can get their hands on if they have the dollar. Leave the RS's, R's etc as the limited number ones.
As great as the new GT3 is I don't think it's in the same realm of car as the R. Yes they are very similar cars, but there is just something about the R that sets it apart. In many years the 911R will be the car people are still talking about. I think it represents a breakthrough Monet in Porsche history.
I can now sleep soundly at night knowing that by the time i can afford a GT3, all the greedy collectors that have their R's in climate controlled garages will be satisfied and leave the cars that are meant to be driven for the rest of us enthusiast x)
I for one am glad Porsche came out with this car as a huge middle finger to 911r owners. I'm sure 90% or 991r's out there are simply garage queens, bought solely as investments to be sold later for more money anyway.

Please Porsche, I know we are living in an era where turbocharged engines are more present than ever... but please don't stop making the GT3 with that amazing naturally aspirated flat 6 !! Cheers!
Jeanbaca Truee.........please don't follow the other's. Be your own Porsche 🖒
If not mistaken, i've read that they will keep the gt3 N/A while possibly the RS versions turbo? im not sure
I guess the GT3 stays (over short or long) non-turbo charged. However soon the beast will come out: the GT2 - and this was always turbo charged...

Jethro is the king of car reviews

Ralf Michael Müßig Don't mean to be irritating but it's 7:12 not 7:07
Whittle Moore yeah but the gt3 rs did 7:06 and the driver that did the official nurburgring time could've pushed harder. I believe that the driver could have pushed more.
Where did you get this info? Sebastian vittel's passenger lap was 7:06 BTG not the full lap.
The full lap of the RS is 7:20, 7:06 is the BTG lap time as Tobi Ogunsanwo said.
712
Jethro continues to deliver with the well rounded reviews, my favourite motor journalist at the moment.
as much as I love the 911R I love that you left that bit at the end in.
1:45 That apex was sick.
This channel is a gold mine. Just wow.
This is by far the best automotive RUclips channel.
This channel is the best thing to happen in automotive journalism since Best MOTORing. These videos make me feel like I'm 15, wasting time in the high school library.
Lmao Alejandro is gonna feel so cheated when he sees this
Michael McDonald no he'll just say something along the lines:"I guarantee you the 911 R will be fine. You guys don't even know. The R is something else the sound the manual box the feeling uhh." Then he'll turn to Farshad and say:"We've seen when we tested the 991 Carrera with a manual it was so easy it wasn't like the R." Farshad will say:"Yeah yeah yeah. btw can I say something? btw the Carrera with the naturally aspirated engine sounded nothing NOTHING like the R." then Ale will add:"Yeah dude. the raw feeling of the R is something else"
he didnt pay half a million for his 911 r though
He's got one of these on the way. Don't think he'll care.
Souheib Merge Has the script been leaked or is it just that they became stupidly predictable? hmm...
Beltrán Urbina I am the one who writes the scripts. Just don't tell anybody I don't wanna get the svipe.
Looks like we have our ECOTY winner then. What a car.
stubones I never thought of this before but you're right... I can't recall any other really awesome car that came out this year that would compare to this? Can anyone refresh my mind? I don't think there is much.

I've absorbed every single ECOTY since 1998 and I'd bet £1k this wins :)
Lol this isn't EVO.
LOL, you're an idiot.
Better than a 911 R? YESSSS
Jethro is hands down the best automotive journalist right now.
Agreed on that 911R comment towards the end. Lol still, both cars are great and they would be a dream to have.
This car is going to win every COTY award there is, simply amazing
Great review as always from the 911 specialist!
I'm a huge Porsche fan, but i totally agree with you.
DrPittenstein exactly!
Its true. Porsche dont care what they say about older models, so long as journalists praise the actual ones. Highly dishonest in my opinion but hey, there is an army of Porsche fanboys that will be happy to disagree.

Love it. Just love the presentation. Esp the end. Beep beep beep !!! Go for it JB.
great video as usual! the outro scares the shit out of me every single time though.

Next Salomondrin video: "why DRIVETRIBE is el diablo"
Be sure to watch all the way to the end. Hilarious verdict! Didn't see that coming!
4:50 Finally, someone who speaks the truth. #nokoolaid
I was just staring at the water droplets on the window behind him slowly moving back.
People were crazy about the 911R because it was supposed to be the last manual so its value was through the roof. Now that it's no longer the case, the value is going to plummet. It was never a collectors car. There is nothing separating it from the other GT models other than its manual box and now there is a newer, better one.
you're breaking my heart! 911R has been my dream car since it was imagined
I like the fact you said that at the end. It really is a bit ridiculous that these cars can have huge premiums on them when they're are not worth the extra money.
911R can never remain the best, such is progress and we should be happy about that.
great soundtrack and always rains in North Wales for me too.
I barely understood what he said through the whole video cause I was focusing on the engine sound, it's so beautiful...
Love this review!! Absolutely fantastic!
The only car that isn't a stick shift but still has a soul bravo Porsche
Dream car and I think red is just a perfect color for it 👌👌
As much as the 911R is awesome, I still love that comment
another home run porsche = another home run jethro vid
I love love love this video..currently have a manual 718GT4 and aspire to climb to the top of the tree..great stuff Jethro...but this is old..wheres the new material please..??
Imo this 4.0 flat-six is the engine of the decade
The engine of the previous decade is the V10 from CGT
Keep it up, Porsche
jethro best reviewer
Best interview yet !! Honest vs Other comparison biased to the R and retaining its status ... ridiculous arguments of the Touring about too noisy ?? And only 90% of the R ... how about spec'ing the Touring with PCCB's for apples to apples ... thank you for an excellent job !!

Im lucky enough to have a build slot for December and have to get my GT3 spec in this week, I'm torn between manual or pdk
Its a sportscar. Its meant to be involving and make you feel in control of all that 911 greatness. Get a manual. Also for resale down the line, manual is where the value will be for a while i think.
I feel torn for you. Even though I'm not getting one, I can't choose
They are both going to be awesome, I have a 991.1 GT3 with PDK that I love. I want the car to drive but I would be an idiot not to think about resale, Porsche dealers very much pushing to PDK
I know there are worse problems to have, thanks for the feedback.

Great review Jethro, where was part 2 shot? Is that Wales and the roads of the Evo Triangle? Looks really nice.
The older I get the higher up the 911 goes on my desire list. Goodness I want one.
Porshe is the greatest car brand ever! They listen to audience complains and fix it. GT3 with Manual good lord....
Do a behind the scenes of one of your shooting ! It looks amazing 😄
I'm more of a Ferrari fan (*F430 = DREAM CAR*), but i like this 2018 911 gt3. Great looks! Great performance! I also like that it's naturally aspirated (don't like turbos for some reason..).
Heh heh, if the money is ever right.....
I can't even begin to imagine how good the new GT3 RS will be
We need to thank the success of the 911r for the manual gt3.
I want to put this new 4.0 motor into the new A110.
yellow6ird lets just hope alpine makes something to follow up on the mad alpine a310 v6 gt
Why? You would just be putting a great engine in a poorer chassis! What a downgrade...
Firebrand because I like Alpine. & I wouldn't be so quick to judge it is a poorer chassis.
poor chassis ? Are you ok ?
Time to swap the 996! Tbh, the GT3 minus that wing would be all sorts of awesome, but the wing is needed of course.
Love the review!!!!
Love my 2018 GT3 maual!
damn now i have to go back and watch the 911R video
This is the TRUE HOLY GRAIL .... are we looking at the best ever drivers 911??? Possibly the last N/A GT Car, with a 6 speed Manual to boot?
Where are these nice smooth roads you've found in the UK?
3:12 cattle grid to stop Lamborghini straying too far into the hills 😉
00:30 That's a glitch 😄
Race car with that wing, R's not a race car, just pure emotion and asteticks....
Brilliant car, brilliant review. Bring on the manual.
I haven't driven either of the cars (not surprisingly) but the 911R is more of a GT car, is it not? The focus is driver engagement and driver experience.. Does not really seem fair to compare it to the brand new GT3 which is Porsches track-day car. 6 dislikes from fresh 911R owners.
The GT Porsche models are track focused, statement said by the company. So its a different car to the R because that's a road focused car.
I don't care about about paper stats and meaningless numbers, I like feedback, feel and involvement, so I think it would be the 911R for me.
I'm this close to placing an order for the GT3 in manual. But my hesitation is, if I should wait for the RS version. And if I do, will it be also available in manual? My Porsche dealer is coy about the details to be sure.
"The GT3, for me, has it covered. Such is the relentlessness of the 911's evolution."
"And if you paid half a million quid for a 911R, you're a fucking idiot." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can I just give Becci Salmon a massive big up cause she's done a good job with the graphics.
Shame they've brought the GT3 down in numbers to GT3 RS levels of availability. The GT3 imo should be the one that most people can get their hands on if they have the dollar. Leave the RS's, R's etc as the limited number ones.
Chris Dorgan Takumi Fujuwara style
If you own a 911R and you haven't sold the car yet... congrats, you just lost 200k
As great as the new GT3 is I don't think it's in the same realm of car as the R. Yes they are very similar cars, but there is just something about the R that sets it apart. In many years the 911R will be the car people are still talking about. I think it represents a breakthrough Monet in Porsche history.
What a vehicle!
This is THE car!
Haha, turning the colour balance to highlight the reds works for the exterior shots, but poor Jethro looks a pink in the lips and ears!!!
I can now sleep soundly at night knowing that by the time i can afford a GT3, all the greedy collectors that have their R's in climate controlled garages will be satisfied and leave the cars that are meant to be driven for the rest of us enthusiast x)
@DRIVETRIBE when are you gonna review a manual gt3???
I for one am glad Porsche came out with this car as a huge middle finger to 911r owners.
I'm sure 90% or 991r's out there are simply garage queens, bought solely as investments to be sold later for more money anyway.
911R is still a keeper
Why comparing the new GT3 to the 911R and not the previous GT3 is beyond me. I think you just wanted to hate on 911R mainly due to its exclusivity and price tag and nothing else. The 911R will still the more rare, more raw and more visceral car of the two. I too would probably agree that the GT3 with a manual is a dream come true but hating on the 911R never. I am pretty close to being able to afford a GT3 with a manual, hopefully my dream car to keep forever.
3:14 Wtf is that in the middle of the road. I'd shit my pants if I were to ride that road on my bike and this thing popped up :)
Great review - and good point at the end - 911R will stay high-price collectable piece - GT3 is probably "better" car as it is new-er and the "battle" will go on ... in 20-30 Yrs time however 911R will be much more in value ;-)
I wish subaru would put more R&D into their flat sixes :( They'd be a mad alternative to the porsches if you don't have a lot of money
This is an amazing car but for the road I'd honestly take the new 911 GTS with its 450 hp and the yummy torque down low. Track? the GT3 ALL THE WAY
I can't believe I just discovered this channel. Today. What the flying $%!
say it like it is. There is no otherway, otherwise we might as well watch some other generic channels. Good one!
Is the colour Guards Red?
Yeah
I love the end hahahah !!
Awesome!!!!
Six people bought 911Rs for £500k last week.
interesting, I want the 911r though
i just saw one on 15th, vancouver
ladies and gentlemen, EVO car of the year 2017
called it
the new GT3 is better than the R for the sole reason that it won't be hoarded away by people who buy it solely for investment
........... is it just me, or is this guy a doppelganger of that dude in the movie "need for speed" ? because I swear.... they look soo alike lol. I actually thought it was him.
For me the GT3 is bargain compared to the R, at least for me those small changes doesn't make a different for me.
The 911R is a drivers car bought by speculators and not driven.
So they're doing the gt3 with a manual? That's kinda harsh on those who bought a 911r thinking it was going to be the only manual
