I'm doing this exact job tomorrow AFTER I fish the wire down the walls. I had done this 50 years ago so this was a good refresher. "See one, do one , teach one".
You make me feel like an apprentice on the job with a friendly pro who is not dedicated to ruining my day. You also detail fairly well. I would rather hear things again and again than for some guy to assume I already know this, and this, and that. I just hit the like, and subscribe. Thanks
I really like all the little side details and prerequisite information peppered in this tutorial. There's a lot of higher-budget stuff around that's not nearly as informative.
Guy reminds me of a old guy I worked with last summer wired aleast 4 boxes with him more then I can remember service calls for light fixtures and ceiling fans and outlet replacements lol cool guy 😂

I think you’re hilarious. I recently wired up my breaker and the outlet for a dryer, and I definitely was a little nervous about turning on the breaker. You made me laugh so hard when you were teasing us about it.
@@Askmediy Nema 14-30, my 30 amp,125/250 volt, 14-30R, 3-pole, 4-wire , my 4 prong plug 30 amp electric dryer is wired to 30 amp outlet is not working why?
If my wire to the black dryer outlet box is damaged by a dog I feel like I could cut it shorter and move the outlet higher instead of running all wire for my outlet. I have exposed silver wires that wrap around the core that are severed but dryer still works.
The outlet it plugs into is damage but not the actual cord to the dryer. A dog ripped open the sheet rock and began to tear open the wire leading to the outlet. I found this when getting my house ready to sell. The old owners left me this surprise and I have been living with it for 6 years lol Also the outlet is against the floor which I think I saw is not code anyways. 1987 home
Is there code for how far or close an outlet can be to the circuit box. I have to move my dryer to the opposite wall and the opposite wall contains the breaker box
No. Only to the green ground screw and never connect a ground wire to a neutral intended location. The neutral and ground are bonded at first disconnect means (usually the main panel) and nowhere else.
It looks like the wiring on the hot water tank are 12 ga is 10ga okay for the run of about 10 ft and 10ga 3 wire outfit a dryer that’s even closer to the power panel, also I have a Meg welder the plug has a ground and a small and large knife blade the the outlet shows 120/240 at 50amp, how big should the wire be and what size breaker do I need
I have old air compressor with a 10.20 nema. The only outlet I could find does not have a ground screw. Just 2 gold hot and silver neutral. I need some advice or a quick how to. Does it need to have a ground or just wire as is?
Hey, Piasan...you mentioned Old vs New dryers with electronics, the question now is, the home dryers are wired with two wire 10, i had a new washer dryer installed with electronics, should i convert the two wire to three 10 ???? access is no problem
Probably calling an electrician. I need to run a ground to old 3 prong dryer outlet, thankfully its like a foot away from the breaker. My 30yr old speed queen finally finally died and I'm loathing having to buy a new budget machine.
Great video. Only one I could find that hooked up the 4 wires and breaker in the breaker box. Also good explanation for the reason from going from 3 to 4 wire recepticle.
Hey guys what if the new 30A breaker doesn’t fit in the old box? Do you just get two 30 breaker that are the same type as the old breakers and run the two hots to each? Thanks for any advice
Thank you for this video, I agree with all the comments. It really helped me, every electrician I talk to say they'll do it and don't. I learned what the wires are for and the positions. Which now gives me knowledge and confidence. Again, thank you.
gonna leak something here... your dryer doesn't need to be using 30 amps, in fact, just a few pico amps. the reason it draws so much is because it was designed this way (on purpose), ie, the electric company needs to make money somehow. all your electronics, really, are designed to operate in the high amp range. 15amp vacuum cleaner, blender motor, etc.. turns out, a little project that draws energy out of the air feeds a heating element in the "pico amp range" and gets just as hot as your dryer's heating element. thanks to a few advancements in this field, the electric company is guaranteed to go out of business. give it a few years..
Beautiful 🤩 exactly what I was looking for . Question. I want to install about 5-8 240 baseboard heaters in my basement. You think 2 30 amp circuits would be enough?
I have a 220 volt electric hot water heater in my basement and want to add a switch at the top of my basement steps to turn it on and off. Can you show us how to do that and what switch to use? Thanks.
Just like any other switch. But it's a two-pole switch. Meaning that each side of the switch is for each hot. With 240 volts it's essential to switch both hots.
Perfect! Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Nobody explains the panel part. And you made this video very entertaining! Hopefully my wife doesn’t yell at me though 🤣

Tbis is a dumb question, but, you said 30 Amp breaker. And it's a double breaker... does that mean 15 and 15? Or 30 and 30
