Hi ya ,it's nick ,I sold dave his new toy ,so the round metal thing by the wood burner that none of you could work out, it's for your red wine bottle in winter ,keeping life civilised old chap ,so good to see Marilyn is having a new adventure., happy trails n
Oh that's Marilyn from Oak Meadow RUclips channel. There's videos on all the work that's been done to that truck. Great to see it's going to get more love 👍
I cut my teeth on these trucks back in the late 80s and early 90s. They were commonly know as, '4 Tonners'. This was generally what they could carry in terms of wieght on the back. The box body had various uses, depending on what unit/regiment used them. Really good to see one being repurposesd in its current role. Top man for saving it. 👌👌
Oh I love it takes me back to when I learnt to drive HGV 3, back in 1987, I learnt in an MK/MJ troop carrier, tell him fuel tank is 150lt, oh the memories, thanks Mel a great bit of nostalgia, have a great weekend buddy
Looking at the comments below, its amazing how one single item can stir so many memories. Like many below, I spend many years being transported around the world in the back of one of these, such an uncomfortable ride, in the back feeling every single little pothole vibrate up your spine, but fantastic memories.
yeah the guys in the back didn't appreciate it when in convoy and bored pumping the accelerator to get the front wheels to bounce off the ground ... happy days
Very nice. I have a Bedford tk with a camper box I built during covid lockdown. Having great fun with it . Have done the wild Atlantic way. Must make a video of it. Well done 👏 nice truck
the bedford MJ's were brilliant, they will go places few other lorries will. simple mechanics. ive driven them in arctic and desert and jungle. love 'em. not many left as most were shipped to South Africa and south America. think Daves is an "ERV." Electronic Repair Vehicle.
Awesome trucks, spent many a day driving them up and down the Uk and around Europe. Can you imagine putting todays drivers in them. No power steering, no air seat, no air con and no synchro gearbox and no radio. I can here the bleeding from here. 🤣🤣😎
Mate of mine , also called Dave , built a safari truck on an ex army Leyland Daf , fitted it out to drive down to Botswana when he retired , unfortunately diabetes took him before he could retire . Perfect vehicle to live aboard though
We had one of these Bedfords 2wd as a horse box in the 70's - completely bomb proof - very noisy and smelly ( so was the wife ) but what do you want from a vehicle? Does the job - pity they are not made so simply now.
I was in the R.E.M.E. & worked on those things for many years. Very basic, but easy to work on. I had to drive one from Cambridge to near Hamburg. Worst drive of my life. Supplied with E.M.E.R’s, what more could you ask for?
Dave has worked hard all his life and saved his money for years and years to buy this truck. We have been friends for over 15 years and it’s all he’s ever talked about buying when he retires. He had a dream and throng sheer determination and hard work he made it a reality. He’s an inspiration that’s the reality.
@@BigVanSmallWorld that was one of the reasons why a couple of my friends gave theirs up about 30 years ago, and fuel was cheaper 🤣 there's did 12 miles to the gallon.

"It's basic " my arse it is, I'm flipping green with envy. It's a cracking rig. Have fun taking out the nana cars in the supermarket carpark 😊

5 people in the back and still room! And without sitting on the bed, great truck!

Thank you 😊
The 4 Tonner was named from the RLs which carried less weight than the newer trucks such as the MJ/MK

Thank you 😊
It's an absolute beast Mel and a bit big for me, it can be a pain in the arse with the relay parking in some places.
I’d like to see a traffic warden try to put a ticket on the window 😂👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld 😂
That Bedford looks great. Solid as a rock. I see it has a solar charger.
I wouldn't want to pay the diesel bills.
Diesel is still cheaper than paying rent 👍😊👍
Looks great what a beast 👊👊
Thanks 👍

Oh that’s sadly quite a common occurrence. You really do have to live for today 👍
Your mate could find a steering pump off a later bedford km just a thought
Love the sound when he revered it up and that crunch into gear..what litre is it.
cool vid
Thank you 🙏
Driven one in Kuwait 1990

Definitely a lot of Van for the money 👍
CatWeazle I was thinking that😂 .Do you think it will fit inside the barn 🤔😂
The Bedford 4 tonner as we knew it in the army
Your mate Dave will develop arms like Garth driving that, especially 3 point (plus) turns.
You’re not wrong 😂👍🍻

"I thought yours was big Mel". I should introduce her to mine.
Now there’s a proposal 😂👍🍻
Anybody Remember CatWeazle? ..thats all im saying 😅
So far gone from the good ole days, beginning to get out of touch with reality with those who cant afford,..Good luck for the future

What was the military reg? Asking as an ex Signals powerman / driver. (ED)
I’m really not sure 🤔
@@BigVanSmallWorld there should be a plate in the cab, 2 numbers, 2 letters and 2 more numbers ... it'll be somewhere.

Passed my hgv in a proper truck BEDFORD RL 1972 😂
Will never ever be done for speeding 😂
He might want to visit Wales, easy to get a speeding ticket there.

Fuel drinker
So what!!! It’s not like he will be driving it every day to the shops or dropping the kids off at the pool like the Chelsea tractor mums
