If I had a dollar for every cabinet that I messed up on the depth length or height on in the first 5 months of woodworking professionally (laughed pretty hard typing that) I would be little richer than I am now, thankfully my boss is like John and makes it a lesson learned and doesn't threaten to fire me

By rough way, you mean in front of a half million subscribers? 😂 It’s all good Jordan, a good craftsman isn’t judged by not making mistakes, it’s in how well you can cover them up.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I installed kitchens and baths for about 6 years. My favorite thing to explain to the "Smart guy" who designed his own kitchen and used a 30" wall cabinet for a corner cabinet and did not understand the a cabinet turned at a 45 does not come off the wall the same distance as a cabinet flush against the wall. Stupid racist math..lol

I appreciate seeing the build AND the mistakes. It keeps in true to life. Because no matter your skill level or tools anyone who has ever tried to build something has screwed up. I've been at it so long (as a DIYer, not a pro) that I've taken to asking myself "where are you screwing up" or "what have you overlooked". Those screwups are thankfully less and less, but then again that's the craftsman's journey.

Couple quick tips: on my carcasses that butt up to each other I build them about an inch smaller and extend the face frame by half an inch. This gives some wiggle room on the install. Also noticed that you had 3/4” space on the back of your uppers that you could have used a cleat to hang them, it would give you a better place to nail and also act as an extra pair of hands on the install. Also, the time spent in layout will save your ass in install.
You got it done and that’s what really matters. Shit happens, you live and you learn.

Measure twice, cut once. When doing a job for John:
    1. Measure twice.
    2. Measure again.
    3. Get someone else to measure twice.
    4. Compare measurements.
If the measurements match 100% then start with point 1 above again. Once this has been done twice you can proceed with cutting.

    • @ukomdesign

"Oh shit why didn't I do that" tip! Put an upside down angle bracket on the inside of your trash drawer to connect the face and the box. Got the same set up and the door will stop fitting nice after a while due to pulling on the top of it every day. That and when you are half in the bag and pull it too hard you won't have to pick up all the little ball bearings from the glide.

The mistakes and fix process is much more relatable. Also helps when we have our own problems. Great work!

I always love watching people that are so incredibly skilled but doing something just slightly out of their comfort zone. Always massively overthink and over engineer the project making it so much harder for themselves than it needs to be. Keep up the sick n solid content....... Love it

I'm sure we've all been in Jordan's shoes building before. Don't kick yourself too hard buddy, everybody learns that way when starting out.

It's sink or swim!! I think Jordan will learn to swim, I have faith in his leader - John, and his coach - Sam.

Me earlier while installing massive great laminated steel signs signs (mandated two man job... doing it on my own with two helping hand clamps because..yeah ) on Twitter "Shit's getting squirelly"... co worker on twitter "where's that from?"... well there's this guy call John Malecki..

I hope your co-worker subscribes and watches this! This reminded me of the video when John and Sam are hanging the timber wall in the shop and John is left holding all the weight, on top of the ladder, as Sam is running around looking for something to help support the weight. I was on the floor, like I am right now just remembering it; this is when I said I would watch any and all content from John. I hope your install when well Peter.

30 + years ago my Dad hung the cabinets in their kitchen alone using a french cleat.
Back then it wasn't just for tool walls 😄

Also just a idea for the next time, you should make small rectangle floor box's (Kick plate box's) and install them on the floor first, this way you can level the box's on the floor before you install the kitchen units
