If I saw it, I would've thought the child fell over and the boys were rushing him home to his mother or something. You'd feel prtty guity. Still, does not one of the thirty adults who sighted them have any sense of responsibility?

    • @SuperMisterKory

You shouldn't blame the witnesses. Even Ralph Bulger in his book states that they probably hold a huge amount of guilt for not interfering but they shouldn't at all. There could be a million reasons why the child was bloody and walking with two older boys. Not everybody would assume they were about to murder him or he was in any danger being with them.

And for the record, then 10-year-olds committing murder doesn't blow my mind; it's the fact that no less than 30 GROWN ADULTS saw a toddler hysterically crying for his mother and bleeding from a head wound FAILED to intervene and save James. The anger toward the killers is deserved, but the anger needs to be directed at the irresponsible adults who turned a blind eye and decided not to get involved.

There are hundreds if not thousands of juvenile delinquents and they don't go around killing toddlers - at least this is the first (and I sincerely hope the only) case I heard of. While they have been neglected this is not a "normal" or typical criminal behaviour, n'or does it have anything to do with gang violence. Civilization fought for centuries for the right to have its privacy - it wasn't striven for by accident, it was done to protect people from unfair preconceptions (and therefore unexpected harmful consequences), from others.
Nobody ever *needs* to reveal anything about their lives to anyone else - under any circumstances.
The responsibility for potential spouses etc. to ensure their own wellbeing, is their own, their family's, the community's, the nation's, the world's - GOD's.
Society used to be able to manage that in a more tangible - and VASTLY less offensive fashion - than it does today.
It was more passively incorporated into the fabric of society, rather than targeted [AT] a specific individual, so that everyone was able to positively benefit.
Ironically, it's possible that James Bulger might actually have been spared, had mechanisms that _used_ to be at work within society's comprehensively protective ethos, actually continued to maintain its status quo.

Venables and Thompson had brought blue paint stolen from the shopping mall and splashed it in Bulger’s left eye. They then kicked him, pummelled him with bricks and stones, and stuffed batteries into his mouth.
Finally, the boys hit Bulger over the head with a 22-pound iron bar, which resulted in 10 skull fractures. All in all, Bulger sustained 42 injuries to his face, head, and body. He was so badly battered, authorities later concluded, that there was no way to tell which injury represented the fatal blow.
Eventually, Venables and Thompson placed Bulger’s dead body (a forensic pathologist later concluded that he was dead at this point) across the train tracks, in hopes of making the whole thing look like an accident, and abandoned the scene before a train came along and severed the toddler in two. How is this justice ?

I used to think that nobody is born evil and that people decide, at a certain point in their lives, to become evil, but I changed my opinion after watching videos featuring Michael Tsokos, one of Germany's best-acclaimed medical examiners. He solved the causes of thousands of unnatural deaths, whether they were accidents, suicides or homicides. Between 100 and 200 of them concerned children. Some fell out of the window, others were mauled to death by dogs that had been trained for illegal dogfights and some were tortured to death. On the job, when he performs autopsies and testifies in court, he has to be neutral and void of emotions, but as a private person, he does have an opinion about certain people. When asked if he believes in "evil as such", he said yes, and he said that some people are, by default, evil, and that some are even more evil than psychopaths and sociopaths. When I saw the expression on his face, I started to believe it's true. "Evil as such" exists in this world, and some people simply are evil.

Venables has re-offended four times since release and been jailed twice for possessing child p**n images, so the rehabilitation obviously didn't work for him. Thompson on the other hand has not re-offended and has apparently now settled into a relatively normal life.
It's such a difficult situation, they were only kids themselves at 10yrs old, so trying to rehabilitate them is understandable, but it certainly doesn't feel like justice for poor James and his parents. Being put into care for 8yrs and them having all the attention and care they didn't get at home wasn't a punishment, it was better than the life they were living before. They should have gone through rehabilitation as children and then been imprisoned for the rest of their lives as adults.

At this point they might as well release Venables' details. He's reoffended at least twice, and violated the terms of his release more times than we likely know about. Every time he fucks it up, a lot more money has to be put into fixing his mistakes. He clearly doesn't care about what he's been given, and I'd say take it from him and see how he goes then.

Totally agree, the lack of punishment has left these two as narcissistic little psychos. This is how the British legal system works, punish the victims and 'reabilitate' the criminals and yet they wonder why people re offend. The legal systems pandering to scum is as good as guaranteeing more offenses.

@@monkeymagic00001 Going really hard on punishment over rehabilitation doesn't really work either though. Rehabilitation can work if it's done right (though it rarely is). In this case, these guys were literally just given the ultimate "you can do whatever you want without having to face any consequences." for it. Maybe I understand the optimism when they were 10, but they're closer to 40 now. Past the age of 18 at least they should've stopped getting any privileges. All they've learned up to now is that no matter what they do, they'll never have to face any real consequences or take responsibility. That. Should've ended a long time ago
